I do my CSS/xHTML in Notepad on my Vista box, and I do my Perl in Emacs on the Ubuntu box...

Try Eclipse or Aptana Studio.

EmEditor or Notepad++

I used notepad and pico for many years, thinking I was "hardcore" .. what an idiot I was.
phpEd right now for me. NIGHT and DAY between it and notepad, etc. I couldn't believe how much more efficient it made me. |

I write a lot of stuff in php.
Honestly, I prefer notepad primarily. Yeah, I'm oldschoool too. "Homesite" is really nice for checking for syntax errors afterwards, but I don't know if it is available any more. Adobe bought out Macromedia a while ago. Adobe came out with this monstrosity called "Dreamweaver" which is supposed to be the do-all proggy. But it is kind of like the old joke about the GUI program for C++. Quite pointless if you actually know what you are doing. Best regards, Archer |
If you're not coding in an IDE, you're not coding efficiently.

all the idiots use notepad, if you look for something professional try primal script.

UltraEdit

Smart newbs use Notepad++...
Hobbiest use Komodo Edit: http://activestate.com/komodo_edit/features/ Pros use Komodo IDE: http://activestate.com/komodo/features/ All three are based off Scintilla editor component. Komodo is built upon the mozilla framework and is cross-os compatible. Hands down the IDE is better than anything mentioned in this thread. |
|
nano, notepad++, i used to use e-text editor but it behaves very funny on vista.
|

You'd be surprised what the "pros" in this industry use, actually ... or who they are. |
Zend Eclipse + Aptana does the trick for me
|
Free is good
Aptana studio is a full suite, lets you do all your web coding in one spot...not that I can use a tenth of it yet, and it also happens to be free for the base package.
