Any Anglers/Fishermen on GFY ?

I have been doing alot of saltwater fishing lately.
I fish for everything and caught just about everything. Its something I can do even when i get old

Anyone here from Tampa who likes fishing?

Bama 02-07-2009 08:29 PM

Hey Roger,

I LOVE saltwater fishing. As a matter of fact, I'm in the process of setting up sportsfisherman.com :)

I'm taking a template designed for golf and editing it with fishing images. I get a lot of offers for the domain so I figured it was about time to put something up in my off time.

I just fish freshwater. Suppose it is a location issue. Lakes and rivers. I have done salt water but not enough to claim it as something I do. I really do like bass, salmon, trout, perch, catfish and such though.

Yeah, they've asked a time or two if I'd sell it. I'd rather hang on to it because of the potential and number of sports fishing magazines out there.

I put up a Joomla default installation and never did anything so it only had the default Joomla stuff - no mention of fishing at all and people were still signing up as members waiting for me to set the site up. :)

Nice California sheepshead there. I grew up fishing off the Central California coast in the beds, and out to about 400ft.

Since I moved to Texas, I've been having a blast catching Black & Red Drum, Speckled Trout, Blacktip Shark, Stingrays, etc.

I'm resolute in my plan to get out on a bluewater trip this summer, and fight some tuna/marlin though!

Here's a pic of my 50lb. black drum from last years black drum run.

50lbs. 47", on 30lb. mono, 9ft. uglystick,

Nice catch :)

Where is that? I grew up in Texas and have spent many many days fishing on the texas coast, mainly around Galveston and Corpus Christi.

I took the sheephead pic in the kelp beds off of Catalina Island last weekend. Its my favorite place to dive.

I caught that one at the Texas City Dike. I used to fish a lot of piers in the Galveston area, before Ike annihilated them. This spring I'll be working the jetties to try and do good.

Catalina is one gorgeous island too. I've fished around many of them, and walked around Anacapa. There's a really cool blowhole there.

That's a great domain. I built a network around fishing and hunting starting a decade ago that built up to 80k members and then sold it just 2 years ago. I also have a few domain (10 years old) that have skyrocketed in value to a high 6 figures, but I just can't let them go.

I would take that domain and and use the same concept as www.huntingreport.com. Fishing would be much bigger and trust me you'd make a small fortune. :2 cents:

Yeah, I think you're right. I've owned it since May of 1998 and know I've been less than forward thinking by not doing anything with it till now. The layout I have now on the site is perfect for what I'm wanting to do and there are tons of places in the template for advertisers and lengthy articles to push different fishing items/trips.

I'm over on iStockPhoto looking for images to transform the golf template to fishing now.

Im about as serious as you can get I fish all the time offshore from Mexico Beach, FL

Once in a while I hit Venice Louisiana for big Yellowfin

Im really starting to get pissed with the federal regs in the gulf...the fucking chinese are pushing for tighter and tighter recreational limits so that they have a better market for farmed fish. 10 yrs ago big snapper were hard to get in the gulf in my area, the 4 fish per person limit and size restrictions brought them back strong...now they are everywhere so cutting the season this year from 7 months to 2 months and reducing the limit to 2 per person is fucked up...specially considering commercial regulations haven't changed significantly, ditto new grouper regs. We need more support in FL for recreational anglers. OK off that soapbox....when ya wanna go?

Heres a few of mine

http://www.mikesouth.com/archives/misc/cobia4.jpg

Thats an 82 lb cobia...arguably the best eating fish that swims.

http://www.mikesouth.com/wp/wp-conte...06/dolphin.jpg
Thats a dolphin I nabbed summer of 08 ... Mahi Mahi to you left coasters

http://www.mikesouth.com/wp/wp-conte...8/05/kfish.jpg

A pretty good day at the snapper hole in 08

http://www.mikesouth.com/misc/w-catch2.jpg
A mixed bag of red snapper, mangrove snapper and chicken dolphin

http://www.mikesouth.com/archives/misc/mb06220401.jpg
Ashley may be petite but I'll lay money on her outfishing almost anyone on the board, she can throw a 12 foot cast net, gaff a fish that weighs as much as her and drive the boat home using only the compass...from 50 miles out

http://www.mikesouth.com/archives/misc/tiffnfish2.jpg
a cooler FULL of red and mangrove snapper

http://www.mikesouth.com/archives/misc/tiffanyfish.jpg
Tiffany is a pretty good angler too

http://www.mikesouth.com/archives/misc/fish1.jpg

Not a bad days catch

http://www.mikesouth.com/archives/misc/mssnapper.jpg

I reckon thats enough for now

Mexico Beach is in the panhandle just north of port st joe 4 maybe 5 hr drive from Tampa but only cuz you have to go around the big bend and theres no freeways its all 2 lane.

But its a small fishing town with the most active artificial reef association (Im a proud member) in the world The MBARA

I just moved right near the Columbia, I've tubed donw and drank beer a few times in the summer. Guess I'm gonna have to get out fishing this summer!

hitinface 02-08-2009 09:51 AM

In Tampa and taking my boat offshore in ten minutes

Actually, hitting the hard bottom off of Redington long pier give the kids something to do with the Silver trout (very thick right now)

Give me a email we have a few guys who hit it hard - Also King/Mack tournaments are fun in Spring.

CIVMatt 02-08-2009 11:10 AM

I love fishing... let's go sometime Roger, I know there's a few other central florida peeps that do too, we should get a group together
