Breaking the typical stale designer mold:

Introducing....

themes baby. :glugglug

Cruise my site in different themes.

I have two more themes I'm working on (in the witching hours after working on client stuff all day of course), but they take an incredible amount of time to create due to the fact that my site is rather massive at this point.... (plus I'm a detail freak & chronic perfectionist).... but, I'd like to put it to the good people of GFY, if you have any suggestions for these other two themes, (or possibly a fifth?) I may be persuaded to create your idea rather than the ones I have slated. (and no, I won't tell you what the other two are.... it's a surprise!)

Have a GREAT weekend everyone, and mahalo, from your friendly neighborhood tattooed island boy. Rock on... http://www.opticalamplitude.com/stuff/rockon.gif

yeah, it tells you that will happen to you right on the front page if you're not using Explorer. I got sick and tired of these shitty wannabe browsers mutilating my stuff, so... now they won't. :glugglug

Everyone else... thanks. I've been killing myself to put this together.... not only so it looks good, but code-wise too. Definately needed to standardize everything here, cuz updating the backend was taking days... shouldn't take days to do an update. Only about halfway to where I'd like the code to be, but it's a VAST improvement. Plus, I can alter these entire themes in like, 15 seconds now.... site-wide.... hehehe...

thanks again guys... now, how about those new theme suggestions... :glugglug

eru 11-08-2002 07:42 PM

Opera ain't no wannabe browser!!!

well, I've been looking at my code and specifications in various browsers lately... I never used to give a shit, but so many people are talking about using opera and mozilla and all kinds of weird crap, so I decided to take a look through them.... I didn't like what they did to my framework. So I banned them. Plain n' simple. I know some of you guys are all into these 'alternative' browsers.... but until they can display my stuff the way it was intended to be displayed, they will continue to be redirected. Sorry bro.

technically, I suppose it'd be 5.01
it's the same as 5.0, just better code-wise, and now with themes. :)

Amputate Your Head 11-08-2002 07:55 PM

zombie 11-08-2002 08:36 PM

damn smooth Amp. what is the estimated release date for the other themes?

pimplink 11-08-2002 08:36 PM

I'm glad to post on this thread which ushered in the apotheosis of online design. Perhaps, I will archive this thread so that I can look back at it fondly in the future. Kinda like a Parisian buying an early Manet, or an Italian buying a Caravaggio, or a German buying an 1848 copy of "The Communist Manifesto" or a left bank Parisian buying the first run copy of Derrida's deconstruction of Plato.
:winkwink:

"...This site is specifically designed for viewing with Microsoft Internet Explorer.?
If you are using a browser other than Internet Explorer? you will not be allowed to proceed further and will be redirected to the IE download site..."

uhu-uh, Im not allowed to browse it with my fav. browser mozilla?

.. and how about following some wc3.org standards when it comes to <a href="http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.opticalamplitude.com%2F thm-tropic%2FmainV5b.html&charset=%28detect+automatica lly%29&doctype=Inline">html</a> and <a href="http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.opticalamplitude.co m%2Fcss%2Ftropic.css&warning=1&profile=css2">css</a> ;)?

Im no big fan of frames either, not to mention they suck with SEs and when you wanna bookmark a particular subsection.

Nice GFX/design, especially the tropical theme.

I don't really think AMP relies on SE traffic.

I checked out the design, sweeti, but sticking with wc3 rules is good design practice I think.

:Graucho

Mutt 11-08-2002 10:19 PM

Amp can do what he wants with his own site, that's his call.

But i hope he's telling his clients when he does non compliant designs what that means to them.

twistyneck 11-08-2002 10:21 PM

I checked out the tropical one. It looks really nice but it took forever to load. I have DSL and it took almost 30 seconds. Might just be a hiccup somewhere, I don't know. Just thought you should know.
