New Food
Being white trash American, I was raised on the traditional white trash food of this great Nation. Every meal was a bland meat dish, with accompanying potatoe and vegetable side. And let me tell you, you can do alot with meat and potatoes.
Dining out and eating ethnic were not my parents idea of a great time. So to say my palate for ethnic food was limited would be an understatement. Seafood of any sort makes me want to vomit. So every once and ahwile I run into a dish or food I have never had before, and I go apeshit and want to eat it every day. I know this has to happen to others... where you find something you want to eat every day until you burn yourself out on it. This week I discovered something I would never have guessed in a millions years I would want to eat. But now I want it... daily. And its quite simple really, but being poor white trash, I was never exposed to this kind of shit. A god damn humus and tabouli sandwich and shish tawook. God damn hippy food. There was a point in time in college where I ate tacos every god damn day. Not due to some lack of exposure to tacos as a child, but just for the sheer love of the taco. God damn I loves me a good taco. What are you hooked on? Or have been hooked on? |
and when someone showed me salsa mixed in with velveeta...

Thai food :thumbsup
I kinda want to try sushi but then I think about raw fish and all the nasty things that must be crawling around in there and say forget it. But everyone I know who eats it loves it. |
You can find good food in Greek Town
or Erie street on this side of the border. |
And when I eat fast food I always dip my fries in ranch salad dressing. Give that a try. I love it.

Dude, theres a spot out on Venice beach, kick ass Hummus and Tabouli(sp) and Babaganouj(sp) Weird you mention this as I was just telling my girl we needed to go get Tattoos and have Rolling Rocks and Hummus out in Venice.
Weird. |
Fuck I'm a regular fucking culinarist, that's why I'm huge.
I love nearly all good food, all time favorites I could eat until I pass out : roasted duck's breast snails in garlic (frog wasn't bad either, tasted like chicken) Lobster, oysters, crabs (not boneprones) and other seafood filet mignon barbequed all at once with boiled potatoes and garlic sauce (ahhhhh.....) I can't help it, food just fucking great. Too bad I don't have time to cook, I'm a fucking excellent cook. I usually eat bread and sausage and drink beer. heheh.. :) |
Screw all that, come to Montreal and have a nice poutine at La Belle! ;)

Dude you have to get "Athenos Three Pepper Hummus" from your grocery store, if they have it. And your favorite "Chips"
THATS my regular thing...good things its not too cheap and it comes in small containers. yummy... |
sushi.....fucking yuppie food, one night Allenski from BuildPage takes me out to a Japanese restaurant and makes me eat sushi...and I fell in love with it...I eat there almost all the time..if anyone is in Vegas looking for good, cheap sushi, Sushi On Trop has $19.95 all you can eat sushi...damn good, but I still can't that fucking sea urchin shit....
I grew up a meat and potatoes guy, then became a chef and worked for Mark Miller and did some kitchen swapping with Emeril and Wolfgang Puck and got my eyes opened to all kinds of amazing shit... recently, I've been on a salsa kick, salsa on everything from mashed potatoes to meatloaf to hotdogs... |
Curry goat with rice and peas..

kitchen swapping is something that occurs when one restaurant may be hosting a big party (like a press conference) and other kitchens will loan them kitchen crew to cover in the regualr restaurant....we used to cater Don King's press conferences at the MGM Grand and would often borrow a prep cook or two and maybe a line cook from Em or Wolfie to keep the Coyote running smoothly....... |
Dude I swear IM digging into this stuff right now, its the best.

Funny thread. I been stuck on mexican food for not just a while, but almost a year now. I can eat that shit daily and it'll always be my favorite.
Though, this past two weeks and tonight (again), I been eating sushi like it's going out of business...:eek7 |
I remember one thanksgiving I got so damned hooked on green olives I was putting that shit on everything.
I'd make home made pizzas with nothing on them but the cheese, artichoke hearts and green olives. I'd buy huge jars and just eat them by the frickin' handful....I couldn't stop myself...LOL I would have to say my favorite food is Mexican food...and not just your good old fashioned Tex Mex (cal-mex sucks ass) but real Mexican food found in Mexico. I have a few favorite resteraunts when visiting either Nuevo Laredo or Tijuana. |

But seriously...no I don't. |
I cant eat those nasty fuckers. Unless they are buried in a pizza. Cant eat mushrooms neither. Mushrooms are fungus. Athletes foot is fungus.
And mayo... fucking forget it. Would rather tongue a truckers ass. |
i go to greektown in detroit once every week or so. i dont really like the greek food either. i go to medeterraniain cafe and get the chicken fingers and i go to niki's to get the pizza. my friends have gotten me to try hummus, tubulee, faloffel, etc and i thought all of them were nasty... must be an acquired taste.
the last food i was hooked on for a few weeks was those chicken parmisagn or cheeseburger lean pockets, anyone ever try those? not only are they great... but its almost no work at all to cook them. |
