GoDaddy Pulls Plug on Domain by MySpace Request
A popular computer security Web site was abruptly yanked offline this week by MySpace.com and GoDaddy, the world's largest domain name registrar, raising questions about free speech and Internet governance.

damn that sucks...
|
"Vaskovich said he spent "hours and hours" on the phone with GoDaddy on Wednesday before he finally got through to someone who was willing to listen"
|
Some site had a MySpace username and password list and they took it down until they removed the list. What if someone had your username and password list for all accounts on your site? Keep the site hosting the file up? Cancel all your accounts? What would Jesus do?

i keep telling it
godaddy registerfly namecheap dont do it... i am moving everything important away... they SUCK |

52 seconds!?! Thats pretty fucking abrupt.
|
That stinks... I wonder if the definition of "freedom" will be changed in the dictionary to comply with all the bullshit going on these days.
I have yet to have any issues with GoDaddy and still have a positive opinion about them, but maybe I'll move a couple important domains to another registrar... lol. |

GoDaddy is OK. I haven't had any major problems there, but they are kinda big and impersonal.
I always recommend Moniker. :) |
We've got an account rep at GoDaddy that takes great care of us, but I have heard horror stories. Don't knw if any registrar is really safe from the BS....
|
hmm i found this interesting..
"Michael Froomkin, a law professor at the University of Miami who has written about domain name regulation, says this is the first time he's heard of a registrar abruptly taking a customer offline without a court order. " didnt directnic recently do the same thing.. |
I wish damned domain registrars would concentrate on providing the service they are paid for and stop trying to have "opinions" on any subject.
|
Companies will always bend to the will of an entity that has the ability to file a zillion claims against them and until someone fights the impossible battle in court this is the way it will stay.

The whole thread is about godaddy doing something to someone who didnt do anything illegal.. Last time i checked legality ( or lack of ) is proven in a court of law.. Registrars always comply with the courts. godaddy bypassed the courts to become judge jury and executioner.. Would you like it if your domain was pulled because somone hacked your server and put something up ? without notifying you ? without consultation and no court order ? That would be a silly way to run a biz |
Yeah, GoDaddy sucks.
They pulled one of my domains offline in the past. After fighting with them (1 week passed) they finally admitted "We made a mistake and we want to resolve this immediately. Unfortunately, in all cases such as these you need to pay a $50 admin fee to turn the domain back on.". They pulled my domain offline, I lost revenue on that domain for a week, and then they blackmailed me for $50 to turn the domain back on. Do not be fooled by the cheap price. They suck! |

Last time I checked a business is allowed to do what they feel is in their best interest in order to protect their business & reputation, ie "We reserve the right to refuse service". |

Moniker.com shut down my domain without a second thought just because they recieved some email complaints. (my server got hacked, they uploaded some phishing pages and spammed the url) |

And they told me that if they receive another complaint they will take away my account and domains. |
P.S.
I didn't get a single email/notification about this. I found out because my friend ICQd me and said that my the site was down. Then I went to check my moniker.com account and it was disabled, I couldn't log in. I had to phone then and straighten everything out. |
Looks like http://seclists.org/ is back up and running from here.

The fact is no matter on which domain register you are if you have big illegal things anyone will suspend your domain without notice.

GoDaddy sucks my hairy nuts.
Call Chris at Moniker and save yourself the headaches. |
Amazing that there are people on this board who don't understand what an insane situation it is to have a domain registrar making this kind of decision.
Stay well clear of GoDaddy. A domain registrar should not care what's hosted on a domain, that's the hosters problem. |
