$1000.00 a Week

Curious. With all of the talk on here weekly. Especially with all the talk of big houses, and not able to retire on a couple of million, the cars, and working your pimphand on the ladies.

Who couldn't live on that, and why?

:helpme

CIVMatt 10-27-2006 10:53 AM

Money is addictive

tranza 10-27-2006 10:54 AM

I could live with that here in Brazil.

The minimum wage over here is around $200 a month FYI. So the cost of life over here is very low.

After saying that I must add that if I was making only $1k/week I would be pissed...

:)

High Plains Drifter 10-27-2006 10:54 AM

I couldn't live on that because I live in California and I have kids and a wife. Well, I could live on it, but it would be a pain in the ass.

Tom_PM 10-27-2006 10:55 AM

$1k PROFIT a week? Most people could live on it easily, starting from a clean slate.
It's when your living expenses exceed $1k a week that you run into trouble obviously, hehe ;)

selena 10-27-2006 10:56 AM

Is that net or gross?

Net it would be fine, in my area of the world.

dexternax 10-27-2006 10:56 AM

1000 a week = 52,000 a year (im glad college gave me good math skills)... lol i wouldn't settle for that.

Yeah, I thought about throwing in a disclaimer for the NY/Cali folks. But I didn't want to eliminate anyone. :)

To clarify...the $1000.00 a week would be take home.

After Shock Media 10-27-2006 11:34 AM

I live in California and have a fiance. She does work but every cent she earns goes back into her own business, she has not paid herself a dime yet in two years. So we live off of my income.

I know for a fact that we could live comfortably for 1000.00 a week. I do have a few contributing factors though. House is paid off, vehicles are paid off, no real credit card debt as balances are paid monthly.

So I would have about the following, not considering business related:
Insurances: 360.00 mo.
Utilities: 250.00 mo.
Cable: 125.00 mo.
Gasoline: 40.00 mo. (personal usages)
Property tax: 60.00 mo. (personal)
Costco membership: approx 10.00 mo.
Groceries/household items: 400.00 mo.
Credit monitoring: 15.00 mo.
Seems like 1260.00 per month for necessities. Rentals alone cover that and then some. Yet even ignoring that income, 1000.00 per week in adult after costs. Would leave me with 2740.00 left over for whatever. Striking out say 1000.00 a month (over doing it) for taxes, still would leave me with 1740.00 a month.

Of course I would need to make sure I did not get sick.

Sosa 10-27-2006 11:40 AM

Most people could do that if they didn't live in such a huge house etc. Now almost all my of money I make from online goes into my company and hardly touches my personal account except my monthly salary. But for personal 1k/week people can live off that for the most part.

bdld 10-27-2006 11:55 AM

just can't be done in southern california unless you're single.

Dagwolf 10-27-2006 11:56 AM

That'd be the bottom level of my comfort zone.

dennisthemenace 10-27-2006 11:59 AM

52k/year wouldn't pay my bills.

I pay myself a little more than that after taxes. The rest goes to my 401k :thumbsup

Nismo 10-27-2006 12:12 PM

Because some people want to be successfull.

BlackCrayon 10-27-2006 12:17 PM

sounds like a lot of you people are slaves to your belongings...simplify man!

polish_aristocrat 10-27-2006 12:22 PM

$4k per month is not that much, but here even if you admit to netting $10k per month, you'll be seen as a loser by some people

fallenmuffin 10-27-2006 01:05 PM

Considering 52k/yr is more then alot of people make.. i'll take it. I could easily live on it.

StuartD 10-27-2006 01:07 PM

Anyone can live on that.

Can they live the way they're accustomed to living now? Maybe not. But they can live.

Property to expensive? Move.
Bills to high? Cut some out of your life. Do you really need a cell phone, 2 home phones, a fax line and a car phone? Probably not.
Food bills to high? Try not eating out so much. Buy things in bulk, shop at different places.

The money you need to have luxuries is directly above the level of money you need to live.

True dat

revolte 10-28-2006 05:12 AM

1k a week would be enough for me ...

Matt 26z 10-28-2006 06:25 AM

It's not about what you make. It's about what you need. For that, everyone is different.

A study was done in the US that showed "life changing" income peaked out at $50,000. That moving from $50k to $100k didn't have the same effect on lives as moving from $25k to $50k.

Angry 10-28-2006 06:30 AM

Dirty Dane 10-28-2006 08:45 AM

depends on where u live

TheSenator 10-28-2006 08:59 AM

I have bills to add up to over 8000.00 a months.

Machete_ 10-28-2006 09:04 AM

Newsflash: VERY few people here make $1k profit a week - make that VERY VERY few people.

marko13 10-28-2006 09:12 AM

i would be satisfied with that income....
