ZANGO thinks webmasters are idiots (XBIZ)
http://xbiz.com/news_piece.php?id=17751
" Zango officials claim their product in no way interferes with normal surfing activity because the user consents to its download and knows what to expect. " bwaha so if they put " we reserve the right to kick you in the balls every friday " the users wouldnt be annoyed in any way because they consented beforehand.. On one hand they have a point , on the other hand im sure 99% of people wouldnt agree to the terms if they knew exactly what zango was doing.. "Bruzzese claims Zango does not in any way overwrite cookies that are tagged with affiliate ID codes. " No of course they dont , the advertisers they sell to do... They must think webmasters are idiots... |

( plus everyone should just be doing this anyways ) this script will inform people that have zango installed that they are infected and give instructions to remove it without interfering with your regular traffic in any way and wont even disturb zango users , just inform them ------------------------ <script> var agt=navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase(); if (agt.indexOf("zango")!=-1) alert("WARNING - do not close this message - please read - You have what many people call dangerous spyware known as ZANGO installed on your system. We are not here to sell you anything you can remove it for free simply go to google and type REMOVE ZANGO into the search box and you will find many websites to help you remove it."); </script> ---------------------------------- This next script does the same thing but instead of just informing them it takes them to a page of your choice , this way if you wanted you could make money by selling them some adware removal program ( again it doesnt disrupt traffic in any way ) --------------------------------------- <script> var agt=navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase(); if (agt.indexOf("zango")!=-1) { alert("WARNING - do not close this message - please read -ACCESS TO THIS WEBSITE HAS BEEN DENIED You have what many people call dangerous spyware known as ZANGO installed on your system. We are not here to sell you anything you can remove it for free simply go to google and type REMOVE ZANGO into the search box and you will find many websites to help you remove it.") window.open('http://www.google.com/search?q=remove+zango','_top'); } </script> |

Can someone get me in touch with Xbiz I would like to reply with my own comments. That article just put me back on the warpath. In partcular the part " ?An individual jumped to a conclusion and launched a forum-based war of words without even bothering to contact us to make sure he understood what was happening.? I understand perfectly clear you fucks. I jumped to a conclusion that these idiots later CONFIRMED was a problem and THEY asked AFF to stop. But this company is so damn stupid they thought I said AFF and admitted problems with them when what I was talking about (and recorded a video) of a clickcash cookie that was being over written from their zango ads. |
I think Xbiz should ask some questions back to them… Just not the person to word the questions :)
I love how Zango just dances around the point. When people type in a domain or click an advertisement to a domain, they want to see the damn site. Not a popup to another product OR the same site which contains a different webmaster ID for that site. Stealing the sale away from the person that originally sent them. The guy needs to be kicked in the teeth. |
So that's what Zango is...

Zango listed on antivirus warning pages:
http://www.trendmicro.com/search/goo..._en-us&q=zango Or Zango removal info on Spyware sites: http://www.spyware-removal-guideline.com/zango-removal I checked the get zango page and the faq, I see nothing about popups. Also, why are popups time delayed? Are you gathering data about surfing habbits? Why does it ask to be installed again after a person removes it? Hell, even Harvard Law says you nasty shit.. http://warren.law.harvard.edu/report...essenger072006 I could sit and pull these all day long, huge range of sites calling it spyware, adware, mukware, malware, and every other analware your ass can take. Thing is.. Zango is ONE product.. While many others don’t target adult sites, some do, but most aren’t as open about it as the morons. |

They try to make themselves out to be a search engine. First of all the SE generates their own traffic. Second people go there looking for something. |
Bump just so more people can see the code Smokey posted :thumbsup

Fuck these guys. What are some ways we can fight back?

Everyone who has had thefinger pointed at them has simply hired themselves a great PR person and worded up the biggest pile of hogwash. The thing is Zango the script DOES do the overwriting, the advertiser may pay for it, but they are paying for something that ZANGO does. |
Once, I agreed to install Zango because I wanted to use the Bearshare it was bundled with.
Neadless to say, I uninstalled it a day later, due to the pain in the arse it caused. However, it seemed to persist and I had to employ other measures to get rid of it completely. Zango sucks, but it's not as bad as getting some scumware from a TGP. |
I have a computer tech site, if someone can write a short article I'll be more than happy to post it there (by article I mean a few paragraphs written in simple English on what Zango is and how to un-install it)
or if you have written something similar before and let me post it there, I will, simply want to spread the word |

Smokey - how sure are we that the UA will always be that? Is that a definite signature?
The only reason I ask is I know how easy it is to cloak that shit |
Smokey, how about a variation that logs every zango user on your website to a file or something? It would be interesting to see what the infection level is at.

Oh and Smokey, how many people do you think read the Terms&Conditions when they sign up for porn sites? Most of the rebills come from people who don't know that their cards are going to be charged on a monthly basis. How many would agree to sign up fi they knew their personal info is going to be reselled many times over? And so on. |

They do disclose in their terms what they are going to do, but it is the ultimate bullshit type of tag along selling possible. If they offered their "toolbar / surf helper / product" as a stand alone, nobody in their right mind would ever install it ("Yes! I WANT MORE POPUPS! MORE!"). They are shoving an undesirable product down people's throats under the guise of "it's in the terms and conditions". Then again, the US government has no problem tacking on laws to block gambling onto a national defence bill, so we shouldn't look to the politicos to fix this problem any time soon. Alex |

When a surfer see's his credit card statement they see who is charging them . a surfer doesnt know zango is adding popups... Lets be realistic here.. if you asked a surfer " where did this internet charge on your credit card come from " they would know its from a pornsite.. if you asked a surfer " where do these popups come from " they wouldnt know zango. they assume its probably the site they are visiting.. and then theres the legal aspect .. rebills are an industry standard , not just on pornsites.. hijacking a computer is illegal. it doesnt matter if the user agrees to it or not. see "Trespass to chattels" |

To hard and to much time. I'll probably get shit for this, but I would write a script and have it clean the surfers system of zango silently in the background. All these adware guys back in the day did everything silently..installs, etc via exploits. Some still do. So why not reverse it.....it's illegal ofcourse, even if you're doing a good thing for humanity......hmmm... There are many ways to do this. |
What about tricking the surfer....same way these adware guys do in order to get them to signup. Encode some movies that need "a new codec"...make them agree to it so it's legal (ie, in the terms). But the "codec" cleans the surfers computer of that shit.
