Video Compression Cluster Farm (PIC)
I have been increasing the size of our compression cluster a bit lately and I thought I would post a picture here.
We are waiting on the sliding glass doors to be installed so we don't have to hear the fans. We currently have the ability to rip and compress over 700 DVD's per month. We are currently booked into next year but the new machines should speed those jobs up a bit. http://www.stockimagelab.com/post/essog-render-farm.jpg On the wall 18 Macs (7 Dual G5 and 11 Quad Intel Xeon) 8 Terrabytes of storage (adding another 3 this week) 10 APC batteries Managed Linksys 48 port Gigabit switch |
Damn. You're my idol, Brad. It's really a damn shame that you're booked up right now.
|
Damn dude, that's just slightly insane... I think you may be getting a call for help from these guys pretty soon: http://www.mainframe.ca

Wow bro, thats unreal
|

|
wow, that's impressive.
|
If anyone is counting this wall has over 126.4 GHz (50 processors) of computing power :)
|
does this mean our lead time is going to drop?...lol
More importantly than all of the computing power, you guys do amazing work!!! |

Thanks for the compliments bud, we are so proud to count you among our clients and it is awesome to know you are happy with our quality. |
Great stufff Brad. I bet those BBW porn sites load really fast for you now.
...oh, sorry. Was that a secret? |
generally, nothing impressive if you've ever visited computer centers at the university...
but pretty impressive if you try to own something like this... nice job! :thumbsup for you! :) |

Oh no doubt :) I got a tour of Mojohosts facility in Miami recently and it makes this look very ghetto. However for a boutique video editing and compression shop it aint bad ;) |
Wow, very nice. What is it you do with all of that primarily? Process video for paysite owners?
|
::Nerd Alert::

Yep :) My wife Claire edits in Final Cut Pro so we do some raw tape editing as well. But mostly big compression jobs for paysites. We do mainly DVD, Mini DV and HD ripping and compression. |
This reminds me of the great tower thread. Awesome.
|
When are you hiring armed guards..?

what software do you use for compression? and can it do wmv?

We have a mixed bag of tricks but yes we can do WMV and every other format! |
ah, geek porn. You should charge many for such pictures :winkwink:
|
Wow real nice Brad! Amazing sight! Don't forget to wear your seatbelt.
Where do I plug in MY Mac Plus? |

Nice setup!
you sure that mini porta-A/C unit can handle it? |
This reminds me, I've got to start charging my clients a helluva lot more

Im amazed at how much power you need - 700 DVDs a month still dosnt sound a huge amount for all that hardware. |
That is magnificent!
I can attest to the great production you and Claire put out. You are both great to work with! ---I am just being nice, I know Claire really does all the work : ) |
Now this is my kind of farm... too bad they're macs :winkwink:

Now I know where to go next time I need some heavy 3d stuff rendered out :D |

Does each tower have a copy of an encoding program on it and you KVM to it? or are they just storage attached to a gigabit network?
|
