World of Warcrack...pretty pathetic story.
I own a small adult call center (1-900 lines) and my main guy, my protege if you will was moving up really fast. After the first month I promoted him to floor manager and eventually became my right hand man and office manager. He was getting paid a very good base salary of $60k a year with incentives out the ass. All in all, he was clearing close to $100k a year. He is 32 years old with a wife and two beautiful girls.
Then came World of Warcrack! He would come in to work in a daze and almost always late because of the lack of sleep from the night before. If any of you have ever worked in a call center then you know that its a high energy place with a lot of stuff always going on. There were even times where I had to drive to his house to get him because he wouldn't answer his phone. When I got there he was unkempt and pretty much in mass disarray. I gave him warning after warning and he just brushed them off and continued to let a fucking video game wreck his life. Needless to say, I let him go yesterday and it was one of the toughest things I ever had to do. To see someone that young with that much promise ruin a great paying career over a video game is a fucking disgrace! His wife works as a insurance claims specialist making probably $40k a year and they will eventually lose their house, cars, and pretty much everything else. I feel so guilty for letting him go but what else could I do?!?!? Has anyone else ever encounted something similar to this with their employees or friends? It truly is a tragedy. Moral of the story...if you have never played World of Warcraft then don't start. Even if you want to buy it "just to see what the hype is about", don't do it! Would you try crack or heroine once to see how it is? That's the first step to addiction. I feel absolutly fucking horrible!!!!!!!!!! :Oh crap |
wow thats too bad

I dont understand how people get so into video games. They are fun for like an hour..

I think certain folks are just prone to addictions, i've spent time in college playing online games or strategy for entire days but I just never let it affect my work or personal life.
Plus i get tired of it within a month heh. |
i dunno, i think it's one of those thing you got to experience for yourself. i would spend 10-14 hours at a time in front of a screen when halo came out.......i wound up looking like gollum. not my proudest days. now, i prefer to interact with ACTUAL humans.

I have a friend who is going through the same shit. He stopped shaving and getting haircuts because he "doesn't have time", instead he'd rather use any time he can find to play WoW. He looks like the fucking unibomber. Almost never leaves the house and has lost his job over it.

I played Everquest, and it was just a nightmare. People will never understand about being addicted to a MMO like EQ or WoW until it happens to them.
I lost all motivation to do anything. I stopped going out places with my gf, she grew impatient, and got on my nerves more. We finally split up because I was sick of listening to her bitch (which wasn't really a bad thing, I would have been married to her right now if not for the game, and 99% sure i'd be miserable). If you care about your gf though, don't ever get involved in a game like that, they're definitely relationship killers. I also stopped working on my paysite and linklist I had at the time. I probably would have scrapped the paysite anyway, but I really regret dumping the linklist, as mine was out before the swarm of LL's / TGP's came out. There were only a handful back then, and had I promoted it right, i'd probably be sitting on high 4 digits to low 5 digits a month in profit from that site right now. But, I think I sold the domain for real cheap, scrapped all my other sites, and just lived off my savings until it ran out, even then that didn't snap me out of it. I just mooched off anyone I could until finally the GAME made me lose interest when they released some new expansion which completely changed all the graphics, made many characters look stupid, and also lagged my system down. Had they not done that, i'm not sure how much more I could have sunk. |
its one of those things where i know if i even play it for like 1 min i will become addicted.
got too much shit clogging up my life as it is, dont need anything else. but i know it could take up a lot of my time |

Thanks to WoW my gaming sites are doing great because of all the ad money the gold sellers spend.
I actually used to play Ultima Online a lot on an indie shard. One day they reset, I was like cool I can be a high ranking character if I just play a ton. I played all day, the server crashed and reset back about 6 hours. I said fuck this, uninstalled the game and never played it again. Played the World of Warcraft beta weekend two of three days solid, after that the game really wasn't appealing to me, never played the retail. |
I don't understand, period!
|
a friend at work left her husband because he got so addicted that he wasn't paying bills or spending any time with the family, they ended up shutting off his hydro etc.

I played for almost a year and gave up the game after I hit level 60 with my night elf warrior. I found a screen where it tell you how many hours/days you have played for.
I had played for over 17 days in the past year!! That is over 2 weeks of playing straight 24 hours a day LMAO!!! I decided then and there that this was getting out of hand and I stopped playing cold turkey. My wife still plays from time to time but I have found other games that hold my interest and still allow me to function in the real world LOL! DH |
these stories are FUCKED up...
|
The only game that I actually spent alot of time playing is Final Fantasy...
and that I do NOT regret. I played maybe 60 hours on FF8, maybe 40 hours on FF9, and 180 hours on FFX FFX-2 was terrible... and every few months or so, I like to restart playing one of them |

17 days is *nothing* for a year :helpme |

yeah, try like 14 hours a day for at least 4 days a week. i know some people that REALLY need a 12 step program.

Been there done that with Diablo II. LUCKILY I was one of the best and was earning a good living from selling items alone. Nowdays it's impossible with all the chinese people, but back in teh days it was ;)

I have played them ALL!
Gemstone 3 UO Eve Online Everquest Everquest 2 WoW and many others I use to work with a buddy of mine and we would havest the shit out of certain areas in EQ back in the day when selling shit on Ebay was easy as pie. Still racked up some decent days of play in that game. I learned quickly though that everything in moderation is ok. I play Ice Hockey once and week and Soccer twice. Should I be logging the hours that I spend practicing or playing those sports each week? FUCK NO! These are the things that I enjoy doing. Even if I just played Hockey you are talking about a solid 4 to 5 hours a week between getting my shit together getting to the rink getting laced up on the ice and playing the game. Add that up we are talking about 8 to 10 days a year. I am not going to look at it that way. But there are some people that lose focus and I do feel sorry for them. Enjoy it if you like it but never abuse it. |
played wow, just quit, wont ever go back. its a very very easy game to get hooked on
|
Junky lol
|
I was addicted to Counter-Strike back in like 2002
i played it dusk till dawn till dusk and then repeated |
I lost a designer to some other massively retarded multiplayer game.

|
i just can't play video games for more than an hour or 2. gets boring and feels like a waste of time. rather be working and making money. no games on the pc at all for me.
