I use to work with a buddy of mine and we would havest the shit out of certain areas in EQ back in the day when selling shit on Ebay was easy as pie. Still racked up some decent days of play in that game.

I learned quickly though that everything in moderation is ok. I play Ice Hockey once and week and Soccer twice. Should I be logging the hours that I spend practicing or playing those sports each week? FUCK NO!

These are the things that I enjoy doing. Even if I just played Hockey you are talking about a solid 4 to 5 hours a week between getting my shit together getting to the rink getting laced up on the ice and playing the game. Add that up we are talking about 8 to 10 days a year.

I am not going to look at it that way. But there are some people that lose focus and I do feel sorry for them. Enjoy it if you like it but never abuse it.

Yep good points there, I play ice hockey twice a week and it adds up to quite a few hours. HOWEVER the benefits of ice hockey far outweight the benefits of WOW (in my humble opinion). But I am sure someone would argue that hockey is violent, you can get injured or paralyzed etc...

I agree with Eric... Everything in moderation, including moderation ;)

CounterStrike, Halo2 and BF2 have cost me thousands of dollars in lost productivity.

The only real reason they don't continue to do that is because the game got messed up somewhere along the way.

I think I will stay away from buying or playing any new games for a long time.

StatsJunky 04-08-2006 04:32 PM

http://bf2s.com/player/44652121/ 64 days of straight playing for this guy. I know it's true because I have played with him before.

G-Rotica 04-08-2006 04:46 PM

Played EQ 4 years, switched to wow for 1.5 years. Sold all accounts. Gaming days are over...until I break down and order a new video card that'll handle Battlefield II. :helpme

I actually used to play Ultima Online a lot on an indie shard. One day they reset, I was like cool I can be a high ranking character if I just play a ton. I played all day, the server crashed and reset back about 6 hours. I said fuck this, uninstalled the game and never played it again. Played the World of Warcraft beta weekend two of three days solid, after that the game really wasn't appealing to me, never played the retail.

Gold sellers?

Got an affiliate program referral link?

I have been playing since day 1.... I started using a bot because I got sick of leveling my characters to 60. After about 3 weeks... I got banned. Im actually happy this happened, it was the only way I would stop playing.

mastermikex 04-08-2006 06:34 PM

i guess i can see how WoW could be addicting...however i've been playing for just over a month now, and it's not eating my soul like everybody said it would. I can go days without playing and be fine with it. I mean its probably the best game i've ever played, but maybe i just have strong will power or something.

X37375787 04-08-2006 06:44 PM

just dont do it. stay away from it, dont give into the temptation. itll suck you in and itll be a bitch to get out.

Young 04-08-2006 06:46 PM

those games are too nerdy for me...therefore i can never get addicted. Magic, monsters...etc...just doesn't do if for me.

almost lost my girlfriend because of that game. its fun, but ill never play it again... it really sucks you in.. i was playing 20 hours a day for several weeks. very bad news..

viki 04-09-2006 02:09 PM

My boyfriend was once promoted due to an Everquest related firing.

BoogieCFZ 04-09-2006 02:12 PM

hate the player, not the game.

I battled MMO addiction back when everquest launched and it took quite a long time to shrug it off.

but i did it, he could have done it too, all the people in this thread either can or will do it.

its not crack, its a fucking game. it has NO physical dependancy it is ALL mental dependancy.

if you cant beat that then god help you.

One of my friends would play it for days upon end.

In the year or so it has been out, he has payed for 100 days total.

2400 hours.

He got bored one day and sold his character on Ebay for over $1200

Original everquest ex-addict.. Was stilla teenager then I think 72 hours was my longest run straight.. Played for a few years or so I think over half of 1 year was spent actually in the game playing.. was really bad I even quit my dishwashing job etc.. I've tried the newer games and they just cant even keep me playing for more then a week even.. I guess either the new games suck or im over my addiction finally.

Just from my personal experience, one of the things that makes MMORPG so addicting is that instant gratification. Accomplishing things in the "real world" typically takes a lot of work and struggling for a reward that could be years down the road, whereas in WoW all it takes is a little bit of time and a bit of pushing buttons and bam you've got that great feeling that you've done and accomplished something. That feeling is just like the greatest feeling, and you end up wanting more of it. The "real world" becomes less meaningful and these games just have so much content that it's nearly impossible to achieve everything there is to achieve. I had a couple projects with awesome potential that i essentially just cut off so that i could hit 60 or get some other virtual purple item, and all there is to do now is look back and think "what if". Of course this doesn't end up being the case for everyone, but it does for a lot people. :2 cents:

He would have made the exact same amount of money with one of those old get-paid-to-surf toolbars like all-advantage... if they had a web based flash version of that game, he'd be rich! :thumbsup
