Eva just gave me the figures for Paul Markham Teens.

You guys are always telling us how hard it is to run a paysite and make it profitable, especially a teen one. how you need to know the paysite game, traffic game, affiliate game and everything else. Well BS.

Eva just gave me the figure of our earnings for Paul Markham Teens. Seems it's not so tough, without doing a lot of hard work, not having paysite experience, knowing and doing little on the affiliate side we now take 75% of our money from CCBILL from the paysite.

Seems the paysite converts. :1orglaugh

DamageX 03-04-2006 11:09 AM

And how much would that be Paul?

I'm sure you're joking, since you probably feel it's not my business to ask for that. Regardless, you made a post boasting the profitability of your paysite, which is definitely hard to gauge without a figure for it. That's why I asked for it to begin with. Success is a subjective matter and is always defined by the point of view of the ones assessing it. So, assuming you're joking, it'd be nice to be able to tie your success to a ball-park figure. If you're not joking, well, I guess the answer is quite clear. :)

Ross 03-04-2006 11:37 AM

Congrats man. Don't say the paysite scene is easy tho. I'm sure you did work hard at it. Hard work pays off!

Nope, that's the dirty little secret, running a paysite is easy and if you start one you'll instantly become a millionaire.

I always take the figures quoted on these boards with a lump of soap so reluctant to give them out. but let's say it's into the 5 figure range.

The nice thing is the lack of work we put into it and in 3-4 weeks I will kick into action plans to get traffic from people who buy porn rather than surf for free.

I don't think I said it was easy, just said it's not as hard as some try to make out.

Busty 03-04-2006 01:26 PM

Pauls content kicks ass, some of the best teen stuff out there.

PS I got the package too Paul and will be sending it to the Stern show for you.

Gavin

Praguer 03-04-2006 01:37 PM

Congratulations Paul, I am not surprised at all as your Content is one of the best around in the teen niche.

Sly 03-04-2006 01:40 PM

Paul are you forgetting that you basically get your content at no to very little cost while most paysites have to cover that expense? You definitely have an extra edge though.

Not only that, but he has a stock pile of it. and is adding to that, and most of that overhead, is paid for by the content store...

People will jump on sending you traffic, because they know the site will convert. they KNOW that you have tons of photos, and they KNOW that you wont rip them off, and risk the content site at the same time.

pornguy 03-04-2006 01:48 PM

Please dont take that wrong. I love your work, and have bough from you in the past, and will in the future. But you are making it out to seem a lot easier than it is. No its not hard, but it does take work in many different ways.

Yep. I showed how easy it is in this blog entry, called "Build it and they will come!"

Simple, yo!

Lifer 03-04-2006 03:38 PM

Nice to hear Paul.

You have to admit that you have a very nice edge though - since you sell porn and use what you create for your own site. I'm not knocking that...

My philosphy about Paul Markham Teens is this:

If Paul Markham Teens does not convert, then nothing will convert. I mean, shit!! You have some of the hottest teen content out there... and you use the vast majority of what is in your store on your site.

Seems pretty obvious to me that you are a success... as am I when I promote your site.

So quite your fucking bragging and get in there and take some more pictures and video so you have some more dripping content to put on your site!! :thumbsup

Pornwolf 03-04-2006 03:58 PM

Yeah, I agree with Lifer. Paul, you should be fucking rich off of your paysite side of things.

Send Evie to NY for a bit and I'll help her with some things...

So you're now saying that you make THREE TIMES the money on your paysite than what you did selling your content? You are aware that your statement means that of every dollar you make, only twenty five CENTS of that now comes from selling content? Content that it seems like EVERYBODY buys? Content that has been providing you and your young wife a comfortable lifestyle in eastern europe?

And all of this with an Alexa ranking of past 100k?

I call Bullshit...Unless you weren't making ANY money at all selling content.

Oh, and I forgot to add, you gotta add in all of that money you make selling to print magazines...

ooooookkkkkkkk :helpme

5 isn't too bad, but shows you have a LONG LONG way to go. Lets boast when it is in the 6 figure range :)

Good points, but then building any business that turns over decent money involves investment.

I will sell all the content on both sites for $20,000 and that is the bulk of the financial investment. Then the hard work startes of building the site and promoting it, not that I spend a lot of time doing either.

The paysite is a small part of the company. The content store is the largest part and CCBILL with a ceiling of $180 per order is not the big earner.

I suppose the target would be to get the paysite over taking the magazines content sales.

In the next few weeks I will flying to the UK to speak to some people about ways to get that to happen.

chadglni 03-05-2006 12:51 AM

I quit arguing with the naysayers long ago Paul. I have no interest in owning or operating a paysite but I started one with a friend that charged $50 a month simply because several here said $50 would never work without hot shit content. Conversions were fine, and rebills were ok. Best part is we used 0 exclusive content, less than a shitpile of pics, 0 videos, a cheap design and 1 feed package. It's all in the marketing and anyone with a desire could start a profitable site for a few grand.

If only someone could read and think at the same time. I think I covered it before but here it is again.

CCBILL is the smallest CONTENT STORE card processor we have, the biggest being the merchant account.

If everyone bought our content I would be taking a suite at the Venetian for the show. but then it would be saturated and it would not convert. Ever heard of an oxymoron?

Alexa rankings while a good indication to traffic do not tell you a thing about conversions and retention.

We always made enough money from content to afford me to fly to shows and stay in the smaller rooms.

GFY has to have it's haters. :1orglaugh

Lifer and Pornwolf, you will be happy to know Eva is working hard in the studio and I had a meeting in Amsterdam last week that will bring in a new supply of good content. She was in NY earlier this year.

Not saying it's going to allow me to retire to the Bahamas. :1orglaugh Just that it's not as tough as I was told.

Hosting and processing added to it I would say the margins are high. But the 5 figure I quoted is after affiliates are paid out.

It's easy if you have connections and a budget to work with.

Question Paul.... Do you regret selling content now? Knowing that you could have made a shit ton more for it keeping it exclusive and on your own site?

Never.

I still think the "Exclusive" thing is totally over rated and mainly used to convince affiliates. In the end our stuff is teens and even if I'm the only one with this set of that teen, on that sofa, it's still teens. There is little twist to make it really exclusive.

Plus the money we made out of the content, it will be a very long time before the paysite gets to that level. And if we had not of sold content would we of had the paysite?

We let members rate the sets with a star system, they don't rate a set any more because it's exclusive. We changed the tour so it featured the best sets, very few exclusive, in fact some have been good sellers http://www.paulmarkhamteens.com/tour/. Conversions climbed when we changed from the system of putting up the Exclusive sets.

i think you may be wrong on this one paul....as the competition gets increasingly difficult and surfers more intelligent...you will HAVE to develop a type of content they can ONLY see at your site....the most successful sites on the net repeat this recipe time and time again...if you are happy with xx,xxx monthly...thats fine

but if you want xxx, xxx.xxx then you will most definitely have to go exclusive..find your audience and keep them in the site....

I think this has been proven over and over again...

wonderman 03-05-2006 07:14 AM

Paul is the one that had his head in the sand during the content blow outs 2 years ago. I remember him saying.. " I don't need to blow out my stuff. It is great. I am great. I can keep my prices high." Then about a month later he comes out with his Bargain Basement site. Obviously that did not make money either so now he tries a pay site. Then after a few months he is saying that is it making all this money. This old coot is fuller of shit than the little plastic baggie I use to clean out the cat box.

Actually, I don't think it has. All that's been proven is that clients (members) like themed sites, most of them being some sort of reality-based theme or single girl sites. That being said you can't prove that what converts is the lack of content being seen somewhere else, or the actual theme behind the site. Besides, with today's incredibly huge supply of content, I'd say that someone keeping control and making sure stuff doesn't get oversaturated, like Paul does, would have close to as good results as an exclusive-content paysite would. Perhaps better, as I believe Paul has more of a talent for sales than most paysite owners today.

Violetta 03-05-2006 07:28 AM
