it probably takes 2 hours before it flushes:mad:

I was just drooling over the Apple Cinema Display I am going to get soon!
Macs will always be superior in speed and professionality. Dual G4 180 Gigs, yummy! <img src=http://69khz.com/newimac.jpg> |

Mac made an exciting announcement this after noon as well...
Excerpted-- Today Mac is excited to announce we NOW have 4... FOUR, not just the old 3 programs that WILL run on our systems for under $2000!! -- :1orglaugh :Graucho |

I see I am outnumbered...
All I can say is this, in professional environments, Mac and its dominant applications and processors are vital. All major recording studios use Macs. As for graphics and audio, Mac will always be the Tyrant in this processing battlefield, I have a quote somewhere here regarding a Pentium test and Macintoshs G3 at 300 Mhz completed a filter in 3 times shorter time lapse, and the Pentium was Pentium 3 at 700 Mhz... this was published by Intel, Not an Apple affiliate. Macintosh/Apple has always been regarded as non consumer level, and its priced accordingly. It is a Supercomputer, again, non consumer level, which Windows and its GUI based version of the mac OS will always been shaky and consumer level. Macs offer much more definable personal parameters, whereas Windoze, wants to do everything for you, and take control of your machine, the Mac allows you to become the Superuser. Why would someone just needing to get online need a 22 inch Cinema display? They don't, but I do, and every design studio or recording studio I have worked in has been mac based. Pro Tools and its digital audio software and hardware combination runs in excess of 17k, yeah its not for people who sit at home and do graphics, and claim to be pro. Same with AVID software and the digital Video suites of today, sitting at home ragging on Mac is not only silly, its just a level at which you may choose to remain. Sure iMacs are funny, but we are talking serious power and graphic applications, along side the powerful and well respected technology of the G4 monstrosity...not your cracked copy of Photoshop 6 you got. The price of Photoshop or the Adobe bundle doesnt matter to someone like me, I know I can make it back soon, and besides, its a tax write off for anyone considering this more than hobby. I love these ole Mac VS PC moments hehehe, im proud to own them all, Im always outnumbered hehehe... I have every mac from the 9600 - the Dual G4, and am also owner of every Windoze make from Win 93 -XP. Its all good boys, its good to know both. But those who do, know the difference. I've often seen people use the price tag on Mac as the reason to not buy... you get what you pay for. Is it the cheap cracked software you rely on to make money? Or do you wanna step up and go pro, hehehe... this should stir up a big enough wave for the mac VS Pc war.... let the Droid Wars continue! :2 cents: |
why is it the Mac lovers always feel the need to justify how "great" and "superior" the Mac is versus the pc? Are you trying to convince us.... or yourself? :1orglaugh
|
Found some URLs for the benchmarks and accuracy of my processor claims, Apple will always win, hands down.
"302% faster than the Pentium based system encoding DVD" - That says alot. ZNET Tests... http://www.zdnet.com/products/storie...631552,00.html "The new dual 1 GHz Power Mac G4 outperforms the fastest Pentium 4-based PC systems on the market today in real-world application tests involving imaging, video and scientific analysis," Power Mac product manager Todd Benjamin told NewsFactor. http://www.osopinion.com/perl/story/16364.html They don't make em for toddlers :winkwink: Damn those tests get me hot! |
" I've often seen people use the price tag on Mac as the reason to not buy... you get what you pay for. Is it the cheap cracked software you rely on to make money?"
... itīs all microsoft anyway, the only difference is: mac users are stupid enough to pay the extra money ... "why is it the Mac lovers always feel the need to justify how "great" and "superior" the Mac is" ... so true, so true, so true !! |
hehehe Amp, I'm just sitting here relaxing digging up info on my latest purchase man, let me play with my new toys and prove to myself they're worth the thousands I invest in them :winkwink:
I never thought of it that way heheh I love both but prefer Mac |
This is a fact:
Macs kick ass for doing graphic/audio. Many companies use Macs! However the Mac sucks cock at everything else.Your average webmaster basically needs to check e-mail, run ftp, an html editor, ICQ, paintshop, etc.... The PC is the choice!!! Macs have a very limited selection of software and the interface looks horrible. (like windows 3.1) Go to a computer store and you see a tiny section for Mac software, and the PC software section is 800X larger. Its stupid to buy a Mac unless you plan to design graphics for movies or run a recording studio. |

THE Solution Mac OSx :1orglaugh I tell you, they fucked up the kernel bigtime to get it this far... Anyway, i had a design company, i was the technical programmer/ceo over there, one fact: may b the mac's dont suck, the mac users suck ass. Reminds me of the old days, PC express BBS' vs Amiga BBS systems... My :2 cents: |
That's funny!
I have been tempted to buy a Mac a few times only because they look cool and all the cool people have them. Then I remember I can't run most of the programs I like on it. I'd much rather build a PC with 2 of those new 15,000 rpm SCSI drives, a dual p4 motherboard & chips and 2 gigs of ram(and an extra refrigerator to cool that stove off). I can get that for half of a what a G4 costs! Equinox, if you can show me that a Mac can beat the speed in that I'll convert to the darkside tomorrow! |
it's just a pity that imacs are shit.. sure i'll give a workstation mac a few props.. but imacs are receptionists computers.. i lectured multimedia applications like flash on them for the last year and a half and they suck... badly..
also fletch you ought to know that the cpu clocks of the different manufacturers are different.. saying a 300mhz mac processor is as fast as a 700mhz intel looks impressive... but the mac one is no faster.. it's not like they had a 700mhz model at the time and they said "hey even our 300mhz one is faster".. AMD have a similar thing where a 1.8 Ghz AMD chip is equivalent to a 2.2 intel.. what you've got to look at is the price per performance ratio.. and thats where pc's stick it to macs.. sure their chips are as fast as the PC chips.. but you can build a PC far cheaper.. or for the same price but with more bang for the buck the reason a lot of professional design places use macs is just leftover platform dependence.. macs USED to be THE design machine.. the people that run a lot of those places are still macolytes.. this will all slowly change.. just as design has slowly migrated towards PC's.. the only stronghold macs have left is the video arena... at my last job we had an avid system with a mac g3 that had an ice card - 10 g3 cpu's in one graphics chip.. and it kicked ass.. but all it's going to take is the cost effectiveness of of pc's or the NT/2000 based SGI's to shine through and that will be another area lost to pc's.. when it comes down to it.. the platform doesn't mean shit.. sure i've loathed every macos up to X but they're still decent machines.. the fact is that with most programs being multi-platform these days (hell mac is finally catching up in 3d) it doesn't matter whether you see a windows or a mac logo on startup.. it's whether you got as much grunt for your money to get the most work done in as short as time as possible.. |
the look of the machine shouldn't mean dick.. you can get all sorts of cases these days to sex up the "beige box".. and even though i have a funky case.. if you gave me the option between a kick ass machine in a boring box.. and a slower machine that looked like it could hover on water.. i'd take the beige thing to the bank.. hell.. i work in a little room that no-one else sees.. who gives a fuck.. :)
jeez.. it's the person not the machine anyways :) |
Soooo True, Sooo True!
If a person who only knows how to use paintshop has a fully blown out dual G4 with all the programs on it goes head to head with a person who knows how to use fireworks who only has a 133mhz with 64 megs of ram, The person with the know how wins every time. By the way, posting articles from 2000 don't help your Mac argument.:NopeNope |

What is that based on? Your own work history? Or is based an actual survey? Just curious. I see later you went on to say, " Don't ask me man, I just make shit up as I go." Ok, so disregard my previous questions. http://expert.cc.purdue.edu/~umar/pcvsmac.html I'm not sure about the audio industry, but I know that a lot of graphics companies, that do 3D based work for movies, use PC and SGI. My friend at ILM says they use PC and SGI for the majority of their work, and Mac for just a little bit of the work. He used to work for Blur studios, and they were 100% PC. He will soon be going to Phil Tippet Studios, again all PC. Here is a quote from a pro Mac website. "First of all, let me make things perfectly clear. I am not against Macintosh computers in any way. As a matter of fact, I'm a quite experienced Mac user myself. I have extensively worked with all different kinds of Macs-from the good old 5400 series to the top-of-the-line G3's-at work. They are not flawless for certain, but they are descent machines. Although I 'm a Mac user, this doesn't mean that I suck (as the title of this web page may have suggested,) because this website is not targeted at Mac users like me. I can, like many mature computer users out there, appreciate the beauties of a well-designed machine, whether it's a Mac or a PC. The type of Mac users who suck big time are those narrow-minded nutcase Mac addicts, who look at PC's as a pile of shit or something(pardon my language). They don't want to learn anything about the advancements in the PC world, they compare the strength of a 286 with that of a G3, and the most sickening part is that they think of themselves as better people or something. These Mac users are like the members of some weirdo cult. In fact, I worry about them sometimes. If PC takes over the computer world one day, they will probably seek a heaven-gate type of solution." This was found in a 3D newsgroup: all serious animation work on the PC is going to be done on NT anyway. And if you are talking about their professional rather than consumer OS then you can include Softimage/XSI, Maya, 3d studio max, Lightwave, Houdini, Lightscape etc etc etc. Macs are still very far behind for 3d. Lightwave barely works at all, its so buggy its almost unuseable, Maya is "coming" but not production proven (not to mention a version behind the NT/SGI versions) and there are no comparable 3d accelerators on the mac for the higher end PC based cards. >Gee, I wonder why so much feature film work and >commercial production work is being done on G4s? I guess it's because People still like their macs. Macs still have a much greater stronghold in 2d design than the 3d/post industries. Every large FX company now has PC based render farms, whether they are using NT or Linux, and many are using NT based versions of SI/Maya because the hardware is so much cheaper than SGI's and they canrt use macs because the software they use isnt available at all. Get a PC, you wont regret it if you want to do 3d at a serious level. >along with more expense and hellish config and >operation problems My PC hasn't crashed in 3 months. Guess it's just horses for courses, but Macs seem to hate me and die as soon as I touch them." On a personal note. I work in a physical/special makeup fx studio, and my boss, is a mac user. There are about 3 other Macs in the studio, and I brought in a PC I had at home to use (which i'm using right now). These Macs have to be rebooted at least 2 or 3 times a day. No joke. I hear that stupid BWAAAAHHHhhhh.... noise it seems like 2 or 3 times a day. The funny thing is that the 3 people that use these macs also have Macs at home, and when I laugh at them restarting all the time, it doesn't bother them. Why? Because it's completely normal to them. They have to restart their home macs all the time as well. I ask my boss why he still uses mac, he replies with "for the graphics". WHAT FUCKING GRAPHICS?!?!?!?! All we do is make-up on people! His brother (Churchy) is the one that set up Kevin with all the Mac stuff years ago. Based on a theory that Macs are better. By the way, Churchy now uses a Dell as his home PC, because he was tired of his MAC. Hmmm... He convinced his brother to outfit his business with Mac, and now churchy uses mac. Churchy, is a hardcore BornAgain-Christian (I based http://BornAgain-Christians.com on him), and is very set in his thinking, and in his ways, yet he converted from ProMac to ProPC. Hopefully, I can convert him from a christian to just being normal. So, back to the graphics... He uses photoshop to alter people's faces to show producers, so they can see what the end result will be. And believe me, he's not so good that he would ever know the difference between PC or Mac. He may as well fuck with images in Paint Shop Pro, or even Wndows paint. Damn, I need to go have a few stiff drinks. I can't believe how worked up this topic makes me feel. Now I see how holy wars start. |
great post Redshoe...
Macs are great for PRINT graphic work. Virtually all professional printers will use them (or at least they used to last time I checked.....) and tell you the same thing. But for EVERYTHING else under the sun.... macs are a waste of desk space and better off being used to prop the door open to get a cool breeze going. And if someone is buying one because it's "pretty" or "cool".... that person doesn't deserve a computer anyway. They just want a big glob of multicolored plastic sitting there on the desk to say to their friends, "Look how pretty!" who fucking cares what the system LOOKS like. I don't even see mine.... they're buried away behind my actual work space... which is how it should be anyway.... my audio gear and the Middle Atlantic rack it's in is pretty... that's why it's in my living room on display.... but my audio gear is for entertainment. Not making a living. My computers are pure function. And I have never, and will...... never...... own a Mac for any reason. :smokin |
i don't give a rat's ass about Amp's or Shoe's opinion anyway.
Macs rule. |
If Apple computer hadn't been incredibly mismanaged we would all be on Macs now.
But they were, and we're not, so who cares? |

You remind me of those great Americans that were hanging with Custer Drinking whisky in the Alamo courtyard when he said "Our Army Can't be beat!" That's true belief & dedication. I applaud you for it. Even though everybody died due to our massive lack of power and redundancy much like Macs compared to PC's! |

I wasn't serious with my statement. I don't really have an opinion about Macs (cuz I don't know enough), never owned one and probably never will. I was just being an ass :Graucho |
