2257 software

For everyone who's been waiting (like I have) for someone to actually market their software...one is finally out and it looks pretty good.

2257 Made Easy

It's under 50 bucks, and they also have a referral program (as you can see from the link lol) - ignore the fact that the index page is sort of cheesy, scroll down, and there's a link to the step-by-step flash demo. Among other cool things (after I saw a demo I asked about this and he wrote it in) you can do a global include of all files in a directory, in order to easily list every piece of content in a set.

I don't know the guy - but it's one of the best ones I'd seen in development...and it's actually available :)

So what is it, 30 or 90 days? How bout I purchase it then 5 minutes later ask for a refund and I still get to use the software.

crockett 06-15-2005 07:22 PM

here is a bump for you

MikeSmoke 06-15-2005 07:26 PM

I have no idea whether it's 30 or 90 days - like I say, I don't even know the guy. That wasn't a big issue to me for $50 - the bigger issue is that it's June 15th and I've been waiting for someone to actually finish and market decent software for almost three weeks so I could start using it and not rely on excel spreadsheets.

King Porn 06-15-2005 07:33 PM

If you click that link found at the bottom of http://www.2257madeeasy.com you can buy it for $39.95. :2 cents:

MikeSmoke 06-15-2005 07:35 PM

i know he was going back and forth on the price he was charging...that's even better lol

Spunky 06-15-2005 07:39 PM

Looks like a great script and for only 40 bucks

King Porn 06-15-2005 07:42 PM

Excellent way for software developers to capitalize on the new regs... I'm suprised the gov doesn't have their own software requiring us to purchase it for $1k to comply. :1orglaugh

NaughtyRob 06-15-2005 07:42 PM

From the site:
2257 Made Easy is made to run on a Windows IIS Web Server with ASP.

My server is Linux. So, I guess I can't use it.

MikeSmoke 06-15-2005 08:11 PM

i'm running it on my desktop - if you have windows XP you can set your machine up as a server and run it locally, which is the way i'd prefer to run it anyway.

How do you do that? Do you have a link to get IIS?

MikeSmoke 06-15-2005 08:54 PM

my understanding is that it's already part of XP - he's going to have a flash movie explaining it step-by-step shortly...i'm waiting for that to do the install so i don't screw it up ;-)

NaughtyRob 06-15-2005 09:05 PM

Only if you have XP Pro I believe.

Peace 06-15-2005 10:37 PM

I could not see demo..It gives me to the log and pass page...How can i see? also there is no contact page?

Peace 06-15-2005 10:46 PM

Is it good also as content store?

MikeSmoke 06-15-2005 10:51 PM

he didn't do a great job with the index page...
the flash presentation is here:
http://www.2257madeeasy.com/howto.asp
the interactive demo is here:
http://www.2257madeeasy.com/admin-login.asp
un: administrator
pw: secret

MikeSmoke 06-16-2005 02:40 AM

yes, if you want to run it locally (instead of on a server) you apparently need either XP Pro, Windows 2000 or Windows 2003, which support IIS according to microsoft.

Questions

Hi,
I just purchased your program and I have a couple of questions.
I am running it local on XP Pro because my server is linux.

1) I am using .htaccess to protect my members area, is there a way to access it other than??
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://localhost/ [NC]
This works but just opens it up to someone hacking the members area.

2) When trying to add a content set and use the wildcard to list directory contents I get
Bad Relative Folder Location!
I have tried to list my local maped drive, the web address, etc.
How do I do this when I'm running it on a local machine and not the web server??

Thanks for the help.

Overall it looks like a very good program, but one of the main reasons I purchased it was to be able to index a directory.

Wouldn't happen to have a version to work on linux would you??

Regards

Peace 06-16-2005 09:14 AM

Hei Did youfix problem..Is this software for content providers or pay sites?

NaughtyRob 06-16-2005 11:17 AM

Fuck, I just bought it, downloaded it and can't use it. I only have XP Home. I guess I need to upgrade to Pro. Blah.

MikeSmoke 06-16-2005 01:32 PM

Um, as I said, it's not my program, I just thought it was pretty cool for the price, and was the only one that I've seen that was actually done and available, not "coming soon" or "in beta." In talking to the guy who wrote it, it doesn't run on Linux because he's not as good or fast a programmer on other platforms, and he wanted to get it done and out as fast as he could.

From the developer:
On the same page that you received your serial number and link to download the software is an email address for support. I personally help everyone that has any issues =)

Gateway69 06-16-2005 04:08 PM

so who is using this?

MikeSmoke 06-16-2005 05:08 PM

i hope to have my copy fully running tonight and will report back...have to get XP Pro installed (from what i can tell, in order to run anyone's solution locally as required by 2257, you need to have IIS capability)

MikeSmoke 06-16-2005 10:06 PM

well, stuff came up and i didn't get to it...will have it installed tomorrow and report back then.

TheWylders 06-17-2005 08:44 AM

another good alternative is 2257Ware Bill has been working hard and has put together an excellent piece of software. The final program has not been released yet as he is making some additional enhancements, but I've been beta testing the existing program for about a week and it rocks! The price once released will be $50 and $20 of that is going to the FSC. Great for paysites, content producers and anybody else required to maintain records.

MikeSmoke 06-17-2005 09:20 AM

Yes, I've been keeping an eye on that one too, especially since it would run on XP Home --- the problem is, it's almost June 23. Not to minimize the difficulty in writing and debugging a program like this ready, but.....
WE NEED IT NOW! ;-)
(and I don't know Bill, i'm sure he's a good guy, but I just got the email from his mailing list, saying "just got back from the San Diego show" --- i hope he had a good time, but I *live* in San Diego and was on a panel at the show, and still could only spend a few hours over there, because I'm too busy with 2257 stuff. if i had a 2257 program that i was trying to get into release in time for people to buy and use, i'm not sure that's the way i would have gone :2 cents:

Sarah_Jayne 06-17-2005 09:40 AM

yeah, I am biting my nails wating for 2257ware too

MikeSmoke 06-17-2005 09:54 AM

exactly - my feeling is we should be entering data instead of biting nails at this point, that's why i gave up on Komply before trevor vanished anyway, and why 2257 made easy looks like the best alternative. it exists. :2 cents:

Sarah_Jayne 06-17-2005 10:23 AM

i don't have xppro..home but not pro

MikeSmoke 06-17-2005 11:13 AM

same here, until this week...if the only program that works for me needs Pro, then I waited as long as I could, and upgraded...

hy777 06-23-2005 02:41 PM

Need some help, please.

Adam is helpful but looks like he hasn't been exposed to some of the problems or has just been unable to offer a solution. Perhaps someone else here has run into the same problems I had?

I upgraded to Pro no problems.
Tried to instal IIS but came across first conflict. When trying to set up 'sharing and security' I could not. The error was:

"An error occured while trying to share wwwroot. The server service is not
started. The shared resource was not created at this time."

It looks like this is the final hurdle to make the script work. I like this script a lot but only from the demo. I haven't been able to make it run, even in Pro.

I am behind a zonelabs firewall and a hardware linksys firewall bridged to a DSL connection. Any settings that need to be changed?

MikeSmoke 06-23-2005 04:19 PM

wish i knew enough about this stuff to give you the right answer, mine worked like a pro from the start just by following adam's flash movie instructions.
but i just did a search and found this...

Error Message: An error has occurred while trying to share <filename>. The Server service is not started. The shared resource was not created at this time.
Solution: To start the Server service:
Right click My Computer and select Manage.
Double click Services and Applications.
Double click Services.
Scroll down the list of services and double click Server.
Click the Start button.
Set the Startup type to Automatic.
Click Apply and OK.

hope that helps :-)

(even though there's extra time to get the records in order now, i'm still working at it and delighted with 2257 Made Easy :-)

MikeSmoke 06-23-2005 09:10 PM

bump....hy777, did you see this?

amber438 06-24-2005 09:37 AM

Adam said something about the ability to mirror your websites in the pc you are using for this..anyone know how? I never worked with IIS and apparently the IIS in winxp pro can not host more than 1 website at a time
Was he just talking about copying the website file structure under webroot?

Thanks
Amber

FilthyRob 06-24-2005 09:40 AM

Looks good for the price

MikeSmoke 06-24-2005 01:21 PM

amber, he walked me through it - i just have my sites all mirrored in a directory called "sites." Basically, you enter the root info for each site when you start using the program, then each content set is associated with a site. And when you go to add the actual content items (with wild cards), you have an option to choose, which lets you associate the content with the true URL of the website. It sounds complicated, but it's easy - Adam walked me through it with no problem :-)

hy777 06-24-2005 01:32 PM

Thank you, Mike.

I don't see "Server" down that list but that may be because I unistalled IIS. I will reinstall it and come back here later tonight.

Do you know if this script could be placed aywhere other than the root itself? Like instead of wwwroot/ in wwwroot/script/ or wwwroot/2257/

so > http://localhost/2257/ would be the place where to work.

MikeSmoke 06-24-2005 04:34 PM

hy,
i really don't know....but i'm sure that if you email adam he'll tell you if it's ok. i'm not a programmer - just someone who bought the product and was very happy with it and happy with the support.

eLdIaBlo 06-24-2005 05:08 PM

Dufus

My god, which lawyer helped you design it..??????? Name please??? If you think you can design a program thats fine.... but you had better have a lawyers stamp of approval before giving people false how that a db proggy can comply with any rule or reg when jailtime if on the line. I looked at the "demo and it is a Joke. First of all we need a directory abcdefghi etc... then when you pull up the A ID thumb and model thumb comes up then you have a URL and release button when clicking that it shows every domain that image is published on... furthermore..... that master id MATCHED with the master pic (out there so law enforcement can make the comparision to see what makeup and some sleep did for the model and what she looks like as a finished product) also the PROGRAM MUST be able to drill down into an exploded view of the ID in the upperleft corner of the model MASTER page and thumbs of ALL and I mean ALL the images of that model you own and have licenses for ........ALSO at the top level where the model ID PAGES are aplha sorted when clicking on the id it would show ALL the DIFFERANT sets you have of that model........ then you could drill down to each set..... and and thumb clicked on would show a complete list of urls and I dont mean complete path..... if you interpret the rule to mean mystupidassadultwebsite.com then you cant read .... COMPLETE URL....... now once you get that right..... START ALL OVER FROM URL and drill backwards etc etc.... or did you miss the day in school when they taught the meaning of the words cross referenced..... you do all that and then have a print function that will not take 7000 clicks to print paper copies (ALSO REQUIRED) you need ONE CLICK CREATE PAPER copy to go in the clients file
and you have a good start.......and that would be the beta then we let everyone in to throw darts at it to give it a three dimensional view and to make it bullet proof..... KEEP IN MIND//// this is a rule designed so that NO ONE can comply.... the url requirement is the trap.... they expect most of you realy wont get it,,,, and after reading the threads its obvious even the designers of the softwares availible are taking the bait..... also some of the less effective versions that have come out such as this one will not run on windows without adding a database which is also a mistake.... unless it comes with the bundle....... fix it and ill be the first to buy a copy ,,,,,and pay ten times what your charging.... but the way it is now .....???? you might as well go grab a copy of ACDSEE to sort your IDS for you while you sit in jail.
