**Players Ball** Next year, 3 days of Players Ball, in the afternoon!

Well, seeing how people are competing more and more for the night time parties and the day time stuff seems a bit flat lately, we're seriously thinking about doing a 3 day festival in the afternoon of Players Ball. Probably from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm every day.

We're looking into doing a Best Of The Players Ball.

One day you might see Snoop Dogg with others, another day Cypress Hill and Xzibit, Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick, another day for rock, Ludacris, etc.

We'll have a walk of sponsors, so people can see their stuff and pick up literature.

It's my belief that this industry has gone through many changes, including the trade shows are dwindling, which means there must be another option.

We've had the most support ever by the webamster community this year and hope to build another type of community for next year for better networking opportunities mixed with a fun atmosphere. Plus doing these events in the day time will help eliminate the security issues we face throwing these at night time.

So if you're interested in learning more about this, hit me up at darren at marketingfirm .com

It's time to step things up to the next level.

A new way to network.

I'd love to.

BVF 01-12-2005 04:21 PM

sounds good. but you could cut it down to four hours a day, save money, and still do well without wearing your entertainers out. Maybe like a 4-8. That would be perfect

Varius 01-12-2005 04:22 PM

I think it's a great idea, depending on which days you hold it. If you hold it on show days, lots of people are stuck at booths, in seminars, etc....and can't make it (however if its until 8, they can prob make 5-8 anyways)

Trax 01-12-2005 04:27 PM

this sounds big...

Well, I think it's nice to give sponsors a choice. Do a booth at a show or a more fun and casual way to market during an event.

Giving people a heads up so they can make their choice early.

tony286 01-12-2005 04:28 PM

sounds very cool ,why dont you have a rock day?

Already in talks with some major groups.

I wouldn't be surprised if we had Velvet Revolver or someone like that.

If we do 3 days, I guarantee one day will be just for rock.

TheGoldenChild 01-12-2005 04:39 PM

A rock day is definitley in the works I know I for one want to oversee thebooking of that particular day-

Ideas I am having are

Foo Fighters
Korn
Joe Walsh
Cheap Trick
Kiss
Chili Peppers
Janes Addiction
Camp Freddy
Velvet Revolver

ad a few others I am thinking- we have connects into a lot of these guys at good prices.

It's all about the booking of the hotel and having all the guests located next to each other in nice suites too-

Kind of a "Corridor Cruising" affair

No tradeshow booths
no union charges
no couch rentals...

Now the question is does D do it during internext or a week after?

EZRhino 01-12-2005 04:41 PM

I would stay longer or come earlier for a event like this.

Triple 6 01-12-2005 04:50 PM

do it after internext... week after is cool - gives people more reason to stay and do other shit.

must.prolong.the.fun.

must.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 01-12-2005 04:54 PM

I will be your video guy on that shit to Dmoney:)

Remember what we talked about yesterday:)

OzMan 01-12-2005 04:55 PM

A very interesting idea with some great potential :Graucho

Gazing into crystal ball...

Overheard two Sponsors talking in September 2006.

"So you guys got a booth at Internext in January?"

"Naw show floors are getting kinda dead and old hat. It's much more effective to talk to people while they are having fun. We are just doing the Players Ball this year after the success of the last one"

I see an Internext takeover :pimp

I think at the same time as the show would be best, for the first year at least, just to make sure those people with tight schedules can make it since they would already be in town. :thumbsup

ytcracker 01-12-2005 04:56 PM

make sure to get ytcracker up in the mix!!!

xclusive 01-12-2005 04:59 PM

I'll be there for sure man I love that idea

Sly 01-12-2005 04:59 PM

Sounds like somebody wants to compete with AVN. :)

Now you are talking. One of the big problems with these events is the talent. No one gives a fuck about Humpty, Flava Flave or DJ Lady Tribe etc. Most guys under 30 don't even know who they are.

Shhh...

Its already being planned.
With the right people it can happen.

RevSand 01-12-2005 05:02 PM

Sounds like a convention of sorts in itself... I am very curious to see how this plays out..

RayVega 01-12-2005 05:03 PM

We are so there...Can't wait.

Nembrionic 01-12-2005 05:08 PM

This idea could turn out to be much fun!
Thanks for this years party also!

Azlord 01-12-2005 05:09 PM

D-Money, what's the scoop on the "D-Money's Payers Card". I thought I heard something about getting into future events with it? What all is this card good for?

NY_TIM 01-12-2005 05:14 PM

D$ if you are throwing it, Mobbucks got your back.. Count us in...... :thumbsup

I hear you and have heard a lot of webmasters talking about how they'd like to see rock or blues shows...

The only hand I have in helping my brother in these evenst is mostly with the press. We do collaborate and dream up artists that we wish could someday play and that he knows he can go out and raise the money for.

I know beyond a shadow of a duobt that next year you will be seeing a "BB King" or NIN play a different kind of internet show....

Keep in ind in the past Players Ball's included Fishbone, P Funk, Long Beach Dub All Stars, theB Side Players, and Third World

There can be some real big stuff coming down the pipe- and it will all come down to effective marketing time, location, and exposure in the form of produtc placement.

People can take a lesson from Mob Bucks and the bathroom PP they did this year because if this show goes off as planned there will be places to put advertising that no one has ever dreamed up before

The week after Internext and the video show in LA?

shann 01-12-2005 05:19 PM

Who was the special guest this year? I heard many rumors, nothin ever seems to come true! lol

A 3 day Player's Ball? From 1:00 - 8:00? Does this mean there will be no convention, no booths and no seminars?

Good luck with that

Glad you asked.

The concept of a Players Card is for line priveldges.

Every sponsor had a chance to work the program laid in front of them and hardly any sponsors chose to work the system in place.

As predicted, there were security issues, and the Players Cards worked for just about everyone who flashed it out, minus the very beginning of the night when the venue didn't let us inside because they still had dinner tables finishing up, which is fucked up they did that.

Now that the party is over, sponsors prefer to point fingers at me or at whoever, but my back up plan was explained and severeal threads were made about this concept, plus it says on the Card it's good for lines.

So the concept will carry over to all Players Balls. I know people wil sponsor passes had a hard time getting in at first, but if they were a sponsors VIP guest, then why didn't the sponsors send them Player Codes so they could get Players Cards? We had 3 main sponsors each had at least 75 "Sponsor suite" passes, NATS had 100. When the venue couldn't differentiate between who's who, so many different passes, they kept letting in Players Cards. I didn't even go to print with these cards until 4 days before the show, incase some VIP's were to register.

Anyway, the idea worked and next year sponsors will realize that D$ had a plan and some sponsors chose not to work the system already built.

Players Cards will let in people when security fucks it all up. Yes, sponsor passes should have been let inside, 2 lines should have been formed, security changed the game plan once the night started.

Next year, expect 3 afternoons of Players Balls with thousands of webmasters attending, Players Cards will be a nice thing to have.

We had lot's of special guests not even attempt to go through that mess at the door. I had Chingy, Gorilla Black and Coolio call me to get inside. Couldn't meet them out front in time because my sponsors were my first concern, not celebs.

We had others ask to perform and go to the party, Scott Weiland, Slash, Dave Navarro, Billy Morrison, Juliette Lewis and the rest of Campfreddy.net. But half of the group had to fly out to Europe last second, not sure of the others made it inside or not, and Tone Loc too.

I still don't know who else was there, but I do know we had DMC from RunDMC all night and DJ Premiere, who's a big time DJ.

Celebs are fun and cool, but I let MTV and other media/celebs understand that they were my last priority, webmasters and sponsors first.

50 Cent to perform during next years Players Ball fest?

Maybe I'll cut a deal tomorrow with him.

Easton 01-12-2005 05:39 PM

i like the new idea better!

Azlord 01-12-2005 05:40 PM

Thanks for the quick response. I'll hold on to this bad boy!

flashfire 01-12-2005 05:41 PM

that might be enough to get me on a plane and out there next year

D-Money 01-12-2005 05:41 PM

I have a stack of about 150 Player Cards for people who never showed up to pick them up.

I'll send them out or hold onto them for next year.

Can't believe people would have a card made and not pick them up with their passes.

Come on, it's all hype. I heard the Velvet Revolver rumour, the Dave Navarro rumour and also the Juliette Lewis rumour. It was leaked out somehow and I am almost sure that it was 99% deliberate, not to mention I know for a fact you told people that VR was gonna play. I won't name names as there is no need to bring them into this, but wouldn't the reason for starting said rumours be to hype up the Ball? Ever year it's the same thing and you always end up apologizing for it and the venue and the security and so on...why would anyone want to risk sponsoring just to be denied access to the facility?

Excuse me?

They called my agent, everything I said to people in private was 100% the truth.

And who cares if they show up, that's not the point. The point is the people listed on the pass are performing.

Have we all lost sight that Cypress Hill performed for 2 hours?

Man, it sounds like you'd be more impressed if they didn't perform, but rather just showed up.

Can't please the masses all of the time. For the haters, try throwing one and compete with this.

chronic avenger 01-12-2005 05:53 PM

Let me see you try and pull one of these things off. D is a stand up guy, he doesnt need to lie to try and pack the house, he can do that on his own......
