dsl is faster with less populations, that's why you'll see people in other countries or in farmtown college areas clock decent speeds on dsl.
in the city of chi, you simply wont get fast dsl. cable is king. and if you need faster than half a meg a second....well, I can't see myself needing that. |
Hey Bill, whats up?
Now stop bragging! lol ;) :thumbsup |

3 meg on comcast here! WOOO HOOOO

are you actually clocking that? im on comcast too, at my parents house, avg 200k. here avg 5-600k |
DSL speed depends on your distance from the CO - not because of over population.
The phone line quality also plays a role in it.. |

ya know, i get conflicting reports from people. my line here was closer than my line was on my old dsl at home before they got cable. line at home, 5x further away, 5x faster too. overpopulated dsl here are what i blame. |
Check it somewhere like here maybe:

this is a good resource for some people some dont realize 2mega communicatons = about 250k per second still blazin, beats my first 9600 modem or whatever the hell it was. |

hehehe... the advantage of having your office inside the data center... ;-) |
hehe, cool
echo ATZ > com 2 |
yup DSL is all about distance from Central Office (CO) or Remote Terminal (RT) ...
under 4000ft ... u'll get 1.5-3 Mbps ... 11k feet from CO .. gives u 386kbps... currently i'm 2000ft away from an RT ... i'm gettin rougly 260KB/s = 2.0 Mbps .. my deal is 1.5-3Mbps down/ 386kbsp up .. $40/mo. |

DSL can be screwy if your phone swithing center is old and crusty somewhere on the line.
Isnt DSL the service where theres varied plans for different speeds? Just a knob you can pay them more to crank up your BW a bit? All systems can be good or bad. For me, cable is excellent. So no need to explore options. Can't we all just get along? Remember waiting 2 hours to get 1 big GIF image that took up 1/4 of your hard drive? Then it sucked so bad you deleted it a minute later anyway? Then paid a huge long distance bill for the priviledge? lmao |

nope, cable. Optimum Online (OOL). 10Mbps Up/Down. They're in the New York area. :Graucho Pings to my datacenter from home on OOL are like 8ms, and pings from comcast cable in Springfield, MA are 17ms. :Graucho |
cable is badass
|
I had to set up the in-laws PC and they have dial-up..damn I read a book between clicks! And took hours to do Microsoft updates.
All hail cable!! |
