Thanks for wasting my time. (RANT)
I just love it when I spend various recourses to attend webmaster events only to have people blow smoke up my ass.
I don't fucking get it. We all take the time out of our lives to drive, fly, canoe, or hang-glide our way to these events. Then we spend more resources on hotels, bar tabs, dinners, buying lap dances for each other....whatever. All of this is done in the hopes of establishing new business relationships. So here's what pisses me off. Why do people waste each others time with bullshit / empty promises? If you can not use the products or services that somebody has to offer, why tell them differently when you are face to face only to have to find a way to snake out of it later on when they attempt to follow up with you? Are you a coward? Afraid to tell the person : "Hey man, I like what I see but I just don't see a use for it in my business at this time." There's nothing wrong with hanging out and shooting the shit with people who you know you will not be doing business with but at least be straight up about it. I have mentioned this concern to several people over the years and they all have the same reply: "That's typical of any convention." I understand that it is normal...But WHY?!? Not only does this waste the time of the person you are lying to but it wastes your time as well. |
Fact is a lot of people do it, a lot of people will continue to do it because they want to seem bigger than they are. I don't personally do it I don think, if I want to try someones programme I will, but I won't say infront of them that I am 100% gonna do it. You don't know what could come up when you get home...
|
ban girls from the convention and i bet most of the bs will die off :winkwink:
|
yeah I told the squirter girl that I dont like porn..
thats the truth. after 10 years of this shit it bores the hell outta me I would rather see a chick in clthes than naked. anyhoo lots of people tell mea t shows they are gonna send us traffic or do traffic exchange with us or do a co branded deal and then months go by a few icqs a few emails.. and nothing.. I think people are just lazy.. I know I am |
There are WAY too many people who like to play the big-time-operator game.
:2 cents: At shows, I will shoot the shit with the best of them. And I will also make some deals. The 2 do not get confused. I can just imagine being someone with a profile in this industry like Aaron - every wannabe Neville-Never-Will-Be-Anybody pimp fucktard in the world wants to be his friend, wants to have a drink, wants to PRETEND they can do business with him. It's just nightclub syndrome on a bigger scale. Sometimes I feel sorry for the big playas. But not too often . :Graucho :Graucho :1orglaugh |
Well, at least we're keeping notes on the short list of people that don't bullshit. I agree with you, I don't understand who has the time or desire to talk out of their ass. My perspective has always been one of determining whether or not we can do business and if not... that's ok... we can still be friends. The reality is, even people that don't ever have the potential of doing business together perhaps because of their products... it's good to have the relationships established. That way, when someone comes to me and is talking about needing content or a particular sponsor, I can confidently say "go talk to..." and that's how the world goes 'round.
Cheers, Brad P.S. - Lars and Aaron, was a pleasure spending time with both of you at the show :) |
A lot of the folks I've dealt with in this regard honestly just seem like they don't have the cajones to make the 'mea culpa' you're asking for, Aaron. Maybe I'm an optimist, but it's always seemed to me that it's easier for weak personalities to go into 'bobblehead' mode, say yes to anything to your face, then run back behind the safety of their PCs and try to pretend it never happened.
Not making excuses for it - it's bullshit, without question. But as long as we've got an industry where there's no barrier to entry for any ol' rookie, greenpea or general slacker to break into it, we're gonna have this problem. :2 cents: <br> |

Speaking of people who follow through....... Lars cut me a check on the spot in Florida. He may joke a lot on the boards but when it comes to business...He is a straight shooter. |

Hey Aaron, speaking of the convention you told me to get with you when we got back. To remind you about that email I sent you.

You can not expect others to treat us as equals if we don't do the same. It does not matter if you are peddling cars, Clothes, or digital pussy......The same business principles should apply. |

I don't buy content, so I told Aaron he had pretty eyelashes - which he does. No BS from me :)

:2 cents: I have ALWAYS approached my adult business I would any business - normal business practices and ethics apply with me. Of course I am not THAT silly and expect the same from the manic majority in this biz. I am simply a businessman who makes and sells porn. :glugglug |

Thanks for the compliment, Peaches. :) |
hey man, good to see your sig is working now. I will have to check out tushy cash today:thumbsup

OK, now that the show is over, email me at [email protected] and let's see what we can do businesswise. But even if we can't, I'll still tell you that you have pretty eyelashes :) |

Maybe you don't pay attention but women run this industry.... Almost every major affiliate program is run by women, same for billing companies, hosting companies, etc. Most of us have been in the biz for well over 5 years Ban the idiots who are just come to the shows to get drunk, high or laid vs. doing business. opps that would be 85% of the people there. Its a business not a fucking lifestyle. When people start getting over the "Big Dick Syndrome" and/or "I can't get laid so I do porn" then we might actually get to do business at a business conference. Reality is only restrained by preception |
I came from the real business world and found things are very different in this space from the little people to some of the big companies. People are shocked when I make a deal and follow thru quickly ready for them to do their part only for them to drop the ball or the number of people who are afraid of the phone in this industry. So when I get disapointed I say to myself lower your expectations of other people in the space, this is the lemonade stand for grown ups. lol I could tell you stories .

You have become a victim of your own cult of personality :2 cents:

I guess people like to act like they are important and a lot bigger than they actually are. I have been to many conventions only to get back to the office and follow up and these people that I met do not even remember our conversations.

While you are checking in with reality....Lets see some strong numbers on the looks of the women you are referring to. Politicaly speaking, it may suck ass but here is a cold hard fact..... Most programs hire attractive females over less attractive ones. This is done for a reason. That's reality for you. |
i feel it is a conspiracy by the white man!

For the adult industry, I go to the Internext show and a few times also to Vegas and that's it.
I really agree Aaron that you end up wasting your time at these things, from the business standpoint. Of course the social side is fun if you're into partying, but to think a lot of business deals people talk about are actually going to happen once they get back home isn't realistic. I think most people I've met are either totally blitzed or stoned and don't even remember what they talked about once they get back from the shows anyway. |
Quote:
*note, the same could be said for any industry where you are in the public, you don't see too many ugly wait staff serving you, you don't see many receptionists with no teeth, basing someone's ability to perform on their looks can backfire, if you don't know what you're doing then the company is going to suffer.:2 cents: And about partying in the evenings, I try to do all my business during the day where people are fresh and sober, it is kind of difficult to take someone seriously when you or they are all trashed at a club and can't hear what the other person is saying over the music. |

I think they wouldn't mind making money if it was coming from the pope. |

I just got a business idea, run a court stenographer service at the shows. For fee a stenographer will follow you thru the shows and record all conversations. So when making a deal with the stoned guy, it will be easy to refresh his memory when he gets home. You can just send him a transcript of the conversation lol. |
