I agree. Post it...

aflex 01-05-2004 01:30 AM

i really feel ripped off because i respected her alot as a talent.. she still has great talent but not as much as i thought now after hearing this..

ok here's my evidence.. it comes from a Single from 1966 by a Soul group called "The Main Ingredient" the song in question is their song "Let Me Prove My Love To You"..

now if you're familiar with Alicia Keys hit song "You Dont Know My Name", you wont have to download the mp3 im posting of it.. but help yourself anyway..

please listen to the song from 1966 then Alicia Keys' song.

1966 - The Main Ingredient - Let Me Prove My Love To You

2003 - Alicia Keys - You Dont Know My Name

post your thoughts

aflex 01-05-2004 01:33 AM

btw listen to the whole song from 1966

liquidmoe 01-05-2004 01:35 AM

Im no musical expert, but isnt the beginning of the alicia keys song taken completely from a riff in the older '66 track?

aflex 01-05-2004 01:38 AM

this isnt p diddy or the neptunes, shes winning awards for this shit..

iroc409 01-05-2004 01:38 AM

lol, it seems there's not much in the way of new music these days. especially it seems on the radio and the rap/r&b genres. sometimes the remix hits the radio before the original song does. everybody uses everybody's lyrics and songs. it's kinda lame.

hell, look back at 'house of the rising sun'. it was a rip from leadbelly in the early 1900's or whatever.

Eminem stole whole songs from Led Zeppelin and mixed others . All rap songs are just sample nowdays from old tracks . Music became masturbation and nothing new is beeing created . We just dont know because we dunno shit about music anymore.

Its all good - she just pulled a p-diddy there.

liquidmoe 01-05-2004 01:38 AM

I thought she had most of her acclaim for singing, not for the piano?

Neptunes are actually musical geniouses ... I think they are brigning things to a new level . Alicia keys didnt bring shit . And Djs like Jazzy Jeff and other commercial rappers have won grammies ... Even lil john won a grammy for GET LOW . Awards are all bullshit nowdays and this isnt about the creation but more the commercial success as nothing new is getting created.

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh To every newer hip-hop or rb song there is a classic being ripped off

aflex 01-05-2004 01:41 AM

its the combination of singing, piano, musical style, and soulful style that made her seem so great in terms of music..

track 3 on her album is also a Gladys Knighht song "if i was your woman"

liquidmoe 01-05-2004 01:42 AM

There is still some new and interesting shit out there, Dizee Rascal in England has some weird fucked up rap that I definitely never heard in the states.

Its not just hip hop or r&b its the whole musical world . Only couple guys really start something from scratch . If a hit was successfull in the 70s then its still gonna be succesfull now if you market it right . Right now hip hop is the best marketing . Dre and eminem are getting sued all the time for sample . Same for p diddy.

Strife 01-05-2004 01:43 AM

who cares...who doesn't sample these days?

Yea that guy is really starting to get talked about . I seen his clip once at first when it went out and I was like WOAH . My friend started saying he was a fucking small rapper and wed never hear about him anymore ... now hes big as fuck in UK.

aflex 01-05-2004 01:44 AM

doctor dre, can you agree that the whole alicia keys phenom is flawed now that you've heard this? i'm big into hiphop so sampling is no big deal, but i thought her music was original.. fooled me.

Holly 01-05-2004 01:45 AM

She's gay. And no, I'm not being a smartass. I think I read that all her people are having a stroke trying to keep it covered up.

budz 01-05-2004 01:48 AM

I liked her first song better anyways :2 cents:

The Truth Hurts 01-05-2004 02:14 AM

fallin' wasn't overly original either.

The Truth Hurts 01-05-2004 02:29 AM

agree. all rap songs aren't original.

69pornlinks 01-05-2004 03:11 AM

If i'm not mistaken kanye west produce this track for her

liquidmoe 01-05-2004 03:18 AM

If thats the case, Kanye takes alot of old school stuff but does some nice remixes of it.

lock 01-05-2004 03:20 AM

Every musician that has ever tried to write a song has accidently semi rewrote another song. It may take a friend to say hey that sounds like the eagles or what ever before they realise they ripped off same cords or riff. Try write a new riff today that hasnt been already recorded or stream a few cords together your probably playing someone elses song.

SexxxyChat-T 01-05-2004 03:21 AM

I thought Alicia Keys whole thing was that she was inspired by classic R&B and modern hip hop, and was a classically trained pianist?

Thats exactly what I am hearing.

Are you also going to point out that in "Piano and I" that she ripped off Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata"?

She has original songs, and sampled songs... doesn't take anything away from her talent.

Vitasoy 01-05-2004 03:27 AM

oh well, I'll still listen to her :)

I've heard the same exact thing about Fallin'.. that it's a rip of moonlight sonata... but....

listen to "It's a Man's, Man's World" by James Brown....

see if it sounds familiar.
