How do i keep my cat out of the fuckin xmas tree?

The little furry fucker hides in the xmas tree, waits for the dog to walk past, and then pounces on it, does this wild multiple cat-slap thing on the dog's face then runs back into the tree... really pisses off my german shephard and i know its just a matter of time till the dog says fuck this and goes into the tree after the cat

Electric fence.

TheLegacy 11-24-2003 01:00 PM

different cats.. different tactics.

once I just threw the cat at the tree said, "you wanted it so bad here!!" never touched it again.

I have heard of dipping the ends of the trees in tabasco sauce, keep the lights up higher and no tinsel since it screws up their digestion. Water spraying etc. what do you use now to keep them in line??

pink_in_the_middle 11-24-2003 01:01 PM

LOL Do you have your christmas tree out already??!!

Weppel 11-24-2003 01:01 PM

He usualy doesnt need any discipline, this is weird behavior for him. We got a much bigger tree this year and the branches hang all the way to the floor... perfect hiding spot for him

PersianKitty 11-24-2003 01:03 PM

Use a citrus or citronella spray on and around it.

Also.. please don't put tinsel on a tree in home with cats. It can cause major intestinal problems.

Yeah my wife set it up over the weekend, got tired of our 4 year old asking about it

Sly_RJ 11-24-2003 01:03 PM

It's not even Thanksgiving yet! Back home we always used to put ours out the day after Thanksgiving. I haven't had one since I moved out, but I think this year my roommates want one. I may cave in, who knows. Christmas isn't the same without snow.

But you dont have a 4 year old asking for an xmas tree every 30 seconds, do you?

When i was single, I had a little 2 foot tall tree, it came decorated out of the box, I'd set it on the bar maybe a week before xmas and it went back in the box the day after xmas. I dont even like xmas.

My cat is 11 years old and still finds it funny to climb my Christmas tree!

Space Puppy 11-24-2003 01:15 PM

staple it to the floor :thumbsup

directfiesta 11-24-2003 01:30 PM

Get the dog to act naturally: pee on the tree.

Cat won't go back

:)

loverboy 11-24-2003 01:36 PM

post some pix here:thumbsup

cat's are really playful, its good to have them around.
cover the sides of the tree with boxes of gifts so he won't
play in that area.

Sarah_Jayne 11-24-2003 01:37 PM

I gave up on live trees when I was a teenager for exactly that reason. The cats just think it is a big toy.

bopha 11-24-2003 01:38 PM

We anchor the tree with fishing line up high. If they don't pull the whole tree down, we can live with that.

Ours like to sleep in the branches.

PersianKitty 11-24-2003 01:39 PM

I know of two families who hang their tree upside down from the ceiling.

Nydahl 11-24-2003 01:51 PM

LadyMischief 11-24-2003 01:54 PM

Get scent deterrant. You can buy it in a can at most pet stores.. it helps in some cases, but not all.

hollywood 11-24-2003 01:54 PM

hahahah nice, i use to have a cat/dog that did the same routine except the cat would jump onto the neck of my shepherd and hold on like it was a contest to see how long she could stay there.

too funny.

Sin_Boy 11-24-2003 02:00 PM

buy canned air....spray it at him everytime he goes under the tree......he will come out like a bolt of lightening........it stopped my cats from going behind the dryer and knocking the dryer hose loose.:thumbsup

JDog 11-24-2003 02:01 PM

We use to have a BB gun when I was younger. They never got near it! :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Well.

I know cat shit around the edges of the yard will keep skunks out.

You could try some skunk shit :)

arial 11-24-2003 02:05 PM

Really hard task, past two years my cat has knocked down the tree from climbing up it. Get a guard dog for the tree?

I agree. I was just skimming the suggestions to see if anyone else made it. My older cat out grew the tree thing she could give a shit. My two 2 year olds think differently. A few blasts of canned air early on works like a charm for xmas trees and other things the little shits like to get into.

sperbonzo 11-24-2003 02:33 PM

there is also this stuff called "boundry" that you can by in pet stores, you spray it under the tree, it should keep the cat out. It works with mine (finally!)

FreeOnes 11-24-2003 02:33 PM

Christmas has already passed, put your tree back to the attic! :2 cents:

Poo-Chee 11-24-2003 02:37 PM

konduct 11-24-2003 02:37 PM

that would be fun if only to mess with people that come over

Gemini 11-24-2003 02:53 PM

Bissell makes air freshner spray and used to have a pine scented one. The thing is, Bissell sounds like an air dog for a compressor when you spray it. lol Our kitten was bugging us and the hubby grabbed that one day and sprayed it... all you have to do now is pick it up and the kitten is long gone.

We did the fishline and eyehooks growing up too. Always put the tree in a corner and tied it off 2 ways. All it can do is tip back then.
