"Richardson said the 4-year-old cannot be held criminally responsible, but the parents or other adults connected to the house could potentially face charges of leaving the young children unattended or leaving the gun where the children could get it."

uh yeah. i would hope so

sacX 09-29-2003 12:34 AM

now wait for the anti-gun crowd to come out and blame everyone, everything but the fact the weapon existed.

bhutocracy 09-29-2003 12:34 AM

the parents should be shot.

spamofon 09-29-2003 12:35 AM

:BangBang: the parents

Kevin2 09-29-2003 12:36 AM

:( thats sad. Why the hell do adults leave loaded guns where kids can get hold of them :feels-hot

JDog 09-29-2003 12:38 AM

Mutt 09-29-2003 12:38 AM

yes i shot my sister too, but she got up every time, she was like the Terminator, nothing could stop her. she was very overweight as a child so i think that's what saved her.

Lane 09-29-2003 12:41 AM

would this have happened if people were not allowed any guns except hunting rifles?

would this have happened if the parents were not stupid enough and maybe more educated?

one can be done with a single law, the other takes generations to change.

eroswebmaster 09-29-2003 12:43 AM

Follow up to that article.

When Billy showed up to the playground all the children stepped asid at the slide and let him go first.

Gorilla escapes zoo, injures toddler, teen

Boston ? A restless gorilla broke out of its zoo enclosure Sunday, injuring a 2-year-old and a teenager before it was sedated and recaptured almost two hours later, zoo officials said.

The gorilla escaped from the Franklin Park Zoo minutes before the zoo was scheduled to close, Zoo New England CEO and President John Linehan said.

The gorilla injured the young girl and an 18-year-old woman almost immediately after escaping, Linehan said. A witness said she later saw the 5-foot, 300-pound adolescent gorilla sitting at a bus stop on a street near the zoo.

BRISK 09-29-2003 12:45 AM

What kind of parents would leave a loaded semi-automatic handgun out where their kids can just pick it up?

Stupid parents, and now their 5 year old daughter is dead.

This shit only happens in a country where having a gun in the house is like having a refrigerator or a tv. Makes me sick.

Stupid case to use for gun-bashing!! A 4 yr. old and 5 yr old were left home alone by stupid fucking parents!! They could have died in a fire, drowned in the tub, went outside and got hit by a car, choked on a piece of fucking candy....should we make matches, baths, cars, and candy illegal too because there are stupid fucking morons in this country??? (this includes you for that stupid fucking comment!!)

aahhh...breathe...sorry

I have a 9 year old daughter, and a gun. I have NEVER left my daughter home alone...not because of the gun, but because of everything else!

That pretty much sums it up. Owning guns is not a bad thing. When there are children, the children should be protected the guns kept under lock and key. It's fucking criminal that the gun was available that readily to the children. The loss of innocent life is criminal, and were it not for the other child, both parents should fucking go to jail.

It's a perfect case to demonstrate how dangerous handguns are. Handguns will kill the innocent and even one innocent life taken is too much of a price to pay....let alone the thousands that are taken every year.

jennym 09-29-2003 08:47 AM

I don't think the gun was the dangerouse part of this equation - stupid fucking parents were - as I said those children could have died any number of ways.

It is very tragic, but we cannot protect the world because some people are stupid an irresponsible.

I guess you think alcohol should be illegal because so many people use it irresponsibly by drinking and driving and killing innocent people every day???

To high of a price for who? Not for me! There are many things in this world that kill people, but I don't want my right to own something (like a steak knife) taken away because there are stupid fucks in this world!

loverboy 09-29-2003 08:51 AM

tragic, the parents are solely reponsible for this incident.

A good argument could be made that most other things in this world have a primary purpose for existing, and it isn't killing humans. (ie: a steak knife exists to cut steak, a baseball bat exist to play baseball, etc...). People might occasionally get killed by those things, but thats not what those things main purpose is for.

Hand guns exist for only one purpose, to kill humans.

excellent point! Alcohol is way more dangerous than guns...especially when combined with a moving vehicle....does anyone have any statistics on the deaths from alcohol...

I personally have known more people that have died from alcohol related deaths than from gunshots (probably would be different if i grew up in the hood)..

the parents are to blame for leaving the children home alone or unattended.. :2 cents:

nope, it was a stupid example, and jennym put it in perspective.

In this situation, I dont blame the gun, or gun laws. I blame the PARENTS for

1. leaving children at home
2. having a loaded weapon in the house that was
3. not locked up

That gun could have been a sword, matches, drugs, alcohol, whatever the fuck. As a parent you should not leave dangerous things around where kids can get them. As a parent, you shouldnt leave your kids around home alone.

Point taken, and understood...HOWEVER, my point still stands. You cannot make something illegal, just because ignorant fucktards use that object illegally. My gun is used to LEGALLY protect myself, my child, and my property. It is for my protection...yes to take someone's life...but I will take a dumb mother fuckers life if he comes in my house to harm me or my child and never feel bad about it!!

jennym 09-29-2003 09:17 AM

wow...a lot of "f" words out of my mouth today...sorry.

I get really worked up on very few things, but this story combines two of them

children and guns

I hope nobody feels personally attacked by me, (this mainly goes to Lane)

sorry for the personal attack :)

do you have another suggestion that will stop this from happening again? irresponsible parents will always exist

jennym 09-29-2003 09:22 AM

no, unfortunately I don't

Do you have a suggestion that will stop people from drowning their children, burning them, starving them, or beating them to death?

grogan 09-29-2003 09:24 AM

happens alot.

there's a 9.95 trigger lock at walmart. guess your kids aren't worth the ten-spot.

Triple 6 09-29-2003 09:27 AM

this all really boils down to the parents. thats it.

smack 09-29-2003 09:32 AM

now i'm going to go out on a limb here and make a couple assumtions. i have my 9mm auto pistol sitting right here next to me. first off. it NEVER EVER sits around loaded unless it is in my holster in my pants. other than that the bullets are out and in a different place. secondly, for a 4 year to be able to shoot that gun, there HAD TO BE a round in the chamber. there's no way around it, a 4 year is NOT PHYSICALLY strong enough to cock a slide. it's not possible. which means that the parents have allowed a long string of dangerous situations to pile up before something bad happened.

rest assured, if and when i have kids several things will happen.
1.) they will know not to FUCK with dad's guns
2.) they will know how to safely operate and unload a firearm.
3.) i will NEVER EVER leave a loaded handgun, ESPECIALLY WITH A ROUND IN THE CHAMBER, anywhere that a child could get their hands on it.

you know when i was a child alot of my friends parents had guns laying around in closets and attics. now here is the moral of the story. i was taught how to properly handle a gun, and i knew they were dangerous, and therefore NEVER fucked around.

so the moral of the story is, lock up the guns, and educate the kids.

Agree on most points. I, like most people, have the belief that "my child knows better". She does not go anywhere near my closet without permission. Many children though will do things they know to be wrong when parents are not around. Therefore, my child is not left unsupervised, so she doesn't have the opportunity to make that mistake.

I also agree on the point about a round in the chamber....my gun doesn't have one in the chamber, and my child is not physically strong enough to pull the slide back.
