Playboy following Penthouse's path

I'm seeing LA porn chicks more and more shot for Playboy Plus - sad but maybe necessary.

Both Penthouse and Playboy built their brands on bringing men girls they'd never seen before - shot in unique styles where you instantly knew a model/photo was from Penthouse or Playboy. The LA porn girls were for the lesser skin mags like Club, Cheri etc. Now Penthouse is all LA pornstars and looks like Playboy is going the same way now.

Maybe softcore Playboy is unmarketable these days so the only route left is slowly converting over to hardcore starting with using LA porn chicks as models.

DVTimes 08-08-2013 03:40 AM

I wonder how well the playboy sites sell?

I often wonder if playboy would make more money from doing a free online magazine/blog and rake it in from advertising and selling tv shows and vids and stuff.

Funny you say that. Just two days ago I was talking to my wife and brought up if the Playboy mansion means anything to the younger generation these days. My guess is less and less. You don't hear about him or the mansion anymore. I hardly ever see the brand. They had a good resurgence 4 or 5 years ago but have dwindled away quickly in the last few imo.

They need to hire you and I to run the show Mutt :thumbsup

Casio22 08-08-2013 04:06 AM

Playboys change in content and direction are to keep up with the market. They are a household name but lets face it.. the average person is more likely to buy playboy branded clothes than buy a playboy subscription.

playboy.tv is full on content that you wouldn't think was typically their style.. reality, documentary etc.

As a curly haired singing jew once said "the times they are a changin'":2 cents:

DVTimes 08-08-2013 04:27 AM

In the uk, you see the playboy stickers on most female cars and even 6 year olds carry playboy bags to school.

But the brand is to me attractive females topless or nude. Hardcore is not there brand.

While selling topless or nude pics sites are harder, I still think they should just stick to doing an online magazine free full of nude females and cars and such. They would make a fortune from adversments.

wehateporn 08-08-2013 04:39 AM

I noticed some with big tattoos, for me that doesn't fit in with Playboy, maybe I'm just old-fashioned.

Playboy is still selling well here!

A few weeks ago I read a blog - a hipster type blog, the owner is a gay male. He went to an event at the Playboy Mansion and had more access than most get, wandered around and said the whole scene seemed very sad, said the place even had that 'old people' smell.

Playboy means almost nothing to young males, hasn't for a long time. It means something to a particular group of young females but I think that is dwindling too and things like putting LA porn chicks on Playboy's website won't help with that. It will be just another online porn site.

Off topic but I just clicked your sig and your domain expired yesterday. Going to a parked page...

slapass 08-08-2013 05:46 AM

Sort of sad that they are doing this now as glamour/babe porn is a big thing. HD photos/videos of really beautiful women are probably seeing a following they didn't have just 4 years ago.

Not sure if they still own the international Playboys but the Brazil one always has the latest starlets etc in it. Seems to be a very strong brand and magazine still.

I'm gonna hazard a guess here that this guy will NEVER get an invite to the Mansion again and definitely will never have that kind of access. What an ingrate.

I love looking through pre millenium issues because it is like a museum of fashion and hairstyles and bush.

The international versions are license deals and the women in the European Playboys are usually hotter than the US version. Though many of the European models don't have the Playboy centerfold look - Playboy was all about the girl next door, my memory of Playboy centerfolds from the 60s and 70s is there were many centerfolds shot in farm girl settings, lots of beach settings, fancy traditional boudoir sets - the articles, interviews and lifestyle promoted in Playboy were suave and contemporary but the girls were down home wholesome sexy. Playmates were girls men fantasized about marrying, Penthouse Pets weren't - unless it was a Stephen Hicks Pet. Guccione was New York through and through, the girl next door wasn't his thing.

slapass 08-08-2013 06:23 AM

I was there about ten years ago, and it was about the same as going to Mecca is for Muslims. I had an amazing time.

And see I liked the late 80's and early 90's where the girls were famous models or rising stars etc. With girls next door mixed in. Really digging the Brazil one for that reason.

Playboy lost it's cool factor in the 1990s.

At the same time, you should see the numbers that Playboy.com does. It's staggering.

Damn that article seems to have been written by a guy who was looking to write a bad article.

I was at the mansion 3 or 4 years ago when Webmaster Access was still happening in LA. We had a great time.

Casio22 08-08-2013 07:08 AM

The dude that wrote that article was gay! no wonder he was looking at the cheap bathroom fittings and towels. Most guys that go the mansion are looking at something else !

Yep no one likes to hear the truth and then for sure they dont like to act to change it.

PornDiscounts-V 08-08-2013 07:26 AM

Shit happens. Just not at the mansion anymore.

I think so as well. It may not be what it once was but as pointed out in one of the comments this guy is at the Playboy mansion and half of his published pictures are of the bathroom!

I can see that. The two times I went were great. I loved it. I imagine I'd love it again if I went this year or next. But for a new generation I don't think it will mean much.

JP-pornshooter 08-08-2013 11:07 AM

i havent looked at playboy mag for a decade.
however I really did enjoy the magazine, it had interesting articles and dreamy looking babes. If the models were the same ones recirculated through the entire industry I dont think I would appreciate it much.
But I do think a polarization is happening in the industry where a lot of previously only high end soft glamour programs are now shooting those same models found on many hardcore sites and not always making those models look that much more attractive.
I am guessing it has become more difficult to find unique and extremely attractive models who only do traditional playboy style poses (no spreads).

Yep, Cover girl a month or 2 ago was one I shot in the beginning, then she went to LA, did mostly G/G, but yeah..

Oh Penthouse..

Was wondering if Playboys webcam, if they did toys and shit for private shows???

I know on the outside in the free area they do not, it is only tease...

??? eh

NaughtyRob 08-08-2013 01:34 PM

They are just being shot for the net and special editions, they always have, just not for Playboy the magazine.

nope - what sometimes happened is that girls who shot for Playboy AFTER their Playboy shoot found their way to the adult industry before Playboy got their content online. the one i remember is the Digital Playground contract star, hispanic girl whose name i forget.

Prior to Manwin buying Playboy's online operation I don't remember any LA porn chicks shooting for Playboy.

at most there's only 1 or 2 girls online at any given time on their cam site and very few of their cam models have ever shot for Playboy.

NaughtyRob 08-08-2013 01:53 PM

Yeah that makes sense.

...I just got back from lunch with legendary Playboy photographers Arny Freytag & Ken Marcus. Wow, the stories that they have from back-in-the-day shooting for Playboy :1orglaugh

Boggles the mind how much time, money & effort they would spend each year tracking down the most beautiful and fresh faced girls to feature in the mag. They would travel the globe spending hundreds of thousands a year just to find 12 amazing specimens to feature as Playmates for the year. Most had never posed nude before in their lives. My how times have changed......

The conversation came about because I was telling those guys how I had just seen some Playboy shots from back in the day and wow, the girls were so damn beautiful, natural, wholesome & fresh. That opened up the floodgate to some of their stories :1orglaugh

VikingMan 08-08-2013 11:46 PM

How much money did Playboy leave on the table by not fully taking advantage of the internet in the 90's. :helpme

They may have done that...but my dad had a Playboy subscription.
The girls were hot of course.

But I think we are romanticizing them to be hotter than any women could possibly be.
And in a way they were because they were in Playboy.

Today there are women just as hot taking it in the ass by gangs of black guys on film. And nobody had to travel anywhere and spend tons of money to find them. Turns out they would just come to you. lol

Photography was very high paying back then for sure though. I have a buddy who is married to an old school big tit porn star. He used to get $20,000 to shoot a roll of film. Not even hardcore. Just some pics of her posing about.
And always shot on expensive locations, 5 star hotels for them, limo's, etc. all paid for.

Paul Markham had one thing right...the internet KILLED that lucrative side of the business for sure.

very few of today's hardcore porn chicks are as beautiful as the Playboy Playmates of days gone by. can't think of one today that is. the ones that are close have implants and as nice as some boob jobs are today they can't compete with naturals.

Post up some of the pics of those classic babes from Playboy who were so much prettier than today's girls.

Refresh my memory and let's see for ourselves. :)

I remember a lot of those issues from the late 1960's through the 1970's and thinking back on them...I ain't so sure about that.

Nice backgrounds, great makeup, lot of hand done airbrushing. But honestly...if you think about it...you can go into any club here in Vegas and find girls that are hotter.

But finding a girl who will take a DP? That's a trickier proposition. :1orglaugh

EDIT: I just randomly googled in "Playboy playmate 1970" and hit images. I think that when you do that the rose colored glasses of nostalgia will clear away and you'll realize that yeah...they were good looking. But not as hot as we all THINK we remember them being.
