I saw that on the FOX5 yesterday. The guy who went to her face and put an american flag right in front of her, got kicked out from the school. But he will be back today to protest out side.

And also, maybe she doesn't want the troops to be there and risking death, which doesn't sound like disrespecting them. I don't say I agree with her (not totally against her view either) but damn, aren't those troops that fought and died fighting for her to be able to turn her back on the flag? If I was a soldier I would be proud she could do it.

Children.... The United States Flag represents so much more than most of us will ever know...... Not only does it represent the US as a country, but also our way of life.

If this girl wants to turn her back to the US Flag, well, that's her fucking right. We do live in a free country. Because of the rights and freedoms she enjoys as an American, she can do this without the fear of being shot.

I love it when people from (more or less) third world companies burn my flag. I can just picture them all laughing about burning our flag while they are sitting in their fucking mud huts with no running water and eating rice.

what makes my husband laugh is when you see pics of people burning the British flag. They must think it is going to upset the Brits as much as it upsets Americans but it really doesn't. The flag simply isn't as much of an icon over here.

Most Australians couldn't give a flying fuck about our flag either.

We even keep trying to change it periodically to get the Union Jack off. Hasn't worked yet but it should the next time. We just need some more old people to die.

But things are different here. We aren't forced to recite a 'pledge of allegience' in school every morning. Patriotism just isn't a big thing. Indoctrination doesn't sit well in Australian culture. We're too cynical for that.

As far as the flag, I see no reason to respect it. Sure tons of soldiers have died, because our leaders got into wars and sent the common folks in. If I wanna show my respect for soldiers I'll show my respect for soldiers, not this fucked up state that we live in. Showing the flag is like showing support for the ruling class. If I met a soldier I'd give him his props for doing the innevitable dirty work when the leaders made it so it was either we all die or the willing go in to fight and die. You don't get more honorable than that.

Your not worshipping the flag - Your paying respects to your country, and everything the flag stands for. The flag is a symbol. The bald eagle is also a symbol of our country, but it's a bit difficult to have live eagles in each classroom. I'm proud of the freedoms I have being in the US.

I have no hang ups about the US Flag. It's just a matter of respect. For the very same reason you won't find me burning Iraq's flag, or the flag of any other country - It's matter of respect.
