Quit smoking [day 5]

I quit smoking 5 days ago, after 8 years of smoking, it's not that bad for now :pimp

Any tips for crisis situations? Some bubble gums or some other stuff? I have e-cigg but i will save for last defense line :helpme

BAKO 11-10-2012 06:14 PM

Hang in there. It's been exactly 16 months for me. I hate cigs now

CYF 11-10-2012 06:15 PM

carrot sticks, gum, licorice all helps. I'm going to quit cigarettes on the 15th for the national smokeout day or whatever and just use my e-cig instead. Tired of buying smokes.

AllAboutCams 11-10-2012 06:20 PM

Dont keep any in the house

pornmasta 11-10-2012 06:52 PM

don't start to count, just do what non smokers do

SilentKnight 11-10-2012 06:56 PM

Don't take a solo roadtrip.

After 34 yrs. of smoking, I quit (cold turkey) for 30 days. Got rather proud of myself.

Then went out on a photography day trip - and after drivin' a few hours caved in to a nic fit. Stopped and bought a pack...that ended my quitting attempt.

MaDalton 11-10-2012 07:06 PM

dont use the e-cig - its the nicotine you're addicted to and the e-cig would destroy all your efforts. i quit cold turkey 10 years ago and its all fine - its just in your head, you can do it if you want

Good luck! Just think how much better you will feel and how much money you will save from not smoking.

Did the same recently ( 5 or so weeks now) and used the e-cig only when I had cravings and also added a heap of exercise and great food into the mix (healthy eating). So now i'm getting fit, lost 10kgs and no smokes :thumbsup

More than just the nicotine, moving away from the actual smoke is a good first step and using an e-cig is very very good at helping with this. Then decreasing the amount of nicotine you get from the e-cig is very easy. :2 cents:

Axzar 11-10-2012 07:10 PM

Toothpicks.

that's what my plan is. I figured I'm addicted to all the chemicals in cancer sticks and my e-cig will help me get over that. I used to smoke 18-22 a day and now I use the e-cig half the time so I do about 8-12 smokes a day now.

The great american smokeout is on Thursday and I'm going to quit cigarettes :) I've tried patches, gum, all sorts of thigns and none really worked for me as good as the ecig does.

Spunky 11-10-2012 07:26 PM

I used a e-cig and it helped me quit.sure it has nicotine but you can eventually ween off it. going through the motions and step by step

Good luck with it, e-cigs are amazing at helping with quitting. Not the same as smoking, however they do the job.

Keep lots of fruit and nuts too. :thumbsup

GFED 11-10-2012 08:43 PM

Good luck.

Avoid other smokers or places where people smoke. Try to forego alcohol for a few weeks. Drink lots of water. As for crisis - masturbate. Try not to do this in public too often, ehhh?

26 years cigarette free. I quit a hundred times before I got it right and just tossed the pack before lighting another one.

Barry-xlovecam 11-10-2012 09:27 PM

Brass it out. Try drinking cranberry juice it is supposed to help eliminate nicotine from your body.

When I quit I used one of those hand exerciser spring grips I had when I had a nicotine fit. You could squeeze a tennis ball too -- same idea -- just mental distraction ...

Yep, and even better, if you have a health food store near by look for some Tea Tree toothpicks. They have a little kick, plus they are good for your oral hygiene. HIGHLY recommended!

I am 3+ years withou a single puff of nicotine and never looking back!

They say if you get a craving - wait 60 seconds. If you can hold out that long, the craving will start to subside.

When a craving strikes, do pushups, go for a quick walk, drink a glass of water, or have a lollipop - replace the behavior with something else.

Wellbutrin / Zyban are really effective and killing the desire to smoke (you'll feel nausea if you smoke while taking them). It's really pretty effective.

Good luck! Cigarettes suck. You'll be so much happier without them.

Stay busy. Get addicted to gym. 21 days to form a new habit.

CurrentlySober 11-11-2012 01:57 AM

I gave up for 6 and a half months once - But being in Jail, I had no choice.

Second I got out I bought a pack and restarted - Go figure ?

Yup, I really am a total idiot.... :(

mce 11-11-2012 01:58 AM

I congratulate all the quitters. I've been smoke-free for 8 years now. One of the best decisions in my life.

WOW 5 DAYS! Big fucking whoop stop acting like a child. you either smoke or you do not.

all you losers on some journey to quit. here is a tip stop putting a cigarette in your mouth an lighting it. you are not a little kid where you cannot control yourself.

people who fail at quitting are pathetic fucking losers.

fatfoo 11-11-2012 06:38 AM

You are quitting smoking. Good job. Don't think about smoking. Just try to keep thinking about something else. Do a puzzle, make something with your hands and try to move away from smoking people. Don't come near smoking people. Don't get second hand smoke. Try to breathe fresh air or air you thought was fresh air. Good health for the people.

Congrats to everyone who quits!

It boggles the mind that anyone would still smoke knowing what they know about the ill health side effects of doing so, not to mention, you, your home, your car, your hair, your clothes, they all really smell like shit.

I hear that a lot, but calm you down from what? Maybe smokers should just try to have less stress if that is one of the reasons they smoke.

Emil 11-11-2012 08:19 AM

Smoking is good for you.

Theo 11-11-2012 08:22 AM

Did anyone try the nicotine patch?

John-ACWM 11-11-2012 10:57 AM

Just think of them as disgusting. Anyhow, they are disgusting.

money biz 11-11-2012 01:44 PM

go get some milk thistle pills and drink a fuck load of water. If you really do this it will knock you to your bed for a day because of the toxins coming out your body.

I did the same.

Thanks for all help and all words of support, i hope this quit journey will end this bad habbit.

I played football today, and it was nice change to not get lung pain after 10minutes.

I go to gym already plus 1-2 small football plays over the week, i hope it will prevent me from some smoke crisis :D.

I did. Gave me really weird vivid dreams. Helped with the withdrawal a little bit but I still wanted something to smoke, the action and motion of smoking. I wasn't successful on the patch.

lucas131 11-11-2012 04:53 PM

smoke marihuana instead

jawanda 11-11-2012 10:14 PM

Ok, I mentioned tea tree toothpicks earlier, but the real true trick that helped me kick it was reading this book: The Easy Way to Stop Smoking by Allen Carr. I would not have believed it, when I was a smoker, but I swear to God, even for a guy who just loved cigs and smoked more than a pack a day ... when I was really ready and wanted to quit, that book made it absolutely painless. Think of it as a good dose of self-impose de-programming.

I really can't recommend it enough. Just go ready the reviews on Amazon if you don't believe me. I am almost 4 years deep and NEVER had a craving, which I would never have been believed possible when I was stuck in the nicotine headspace.

Good luck however you choose to get it done.
