Back from a life-changing experience

Just finished a 3 month experience in emergency response. I can't even begin to casually list the amount of things I have learned, describe the people I met from all walks of life and continents of the planet, or the effect the experience has had on my life, but I will say this - Feels good to be back in regular life for a change.

Sup mother fuckers?

welcome back

You have to be able to list the things that are important to you. What you mean to say probably is that you learned more than you can type in a paragraph. I understand. However, remember that it is possible to summarize with a list of small items. For example: Jan 1 - event 1, Jan 2 - event 2, Jan 3 - event 3, Jan 4 - event 4: John, Mary, Steve, George, Kate, Bob. Good luck.

yeah you right. I guess I could say first off, wow never been part of such a political event and seeing how goverment, corporations, contractors and sub contractors work with government agencies to make things like this seem better than it is and being sworn to secrecy for taking part in it is all mind boggling!

but fun it was and was quite an experience. Getting to personally know hundreds of new people up close and work side by side for so long was crazy but met tons of people from all over.

gracias. being knee-deep in crude oil in the marsh, pulling and bagging oil soaked boom was quite hard work but it was well worth it. saw many sunrises, and did what I could to lend manpower and long days to chip in.

Started out just loading and unloading boom and supplies and worked every aspect of the operation...

Alprazolam 10-26-2010 07:55 PM

that secrecy thing ain't gonna work out well. people will talk. BP and the government can go fuck themselves.

gotta love the fucking lengths they went to try to restrict pictures of the happenings. how they gathered up all the dying animals at sea and burned them on barges so no one would find out. so much scumbag shit. can't wait till the truth comes out. fucking scumbags.

thanks for helping though.

i signed so many papers regarding taking pictures, what i could and couldnt say etc... speaking to media in any capacity or going public with anything I was witnessing was grounds for termination and black barred LOL

i was filmed saying "no comment" and had cameras in my face quite a few times.

all the people running the operations were ex military. although i havent been in military i was told by marines i worked side by side with it was very much like it. got to know about 200 people by first names and learned to trust people working in hazardous material operations and get to know them....

i signed papers saying not only should i not talk that any pics i took along the way were evidence to their discretion. BP contracts were regular and they changed policy often and strictly.

The funny ting is BP would send reps to say things like "we would never threaten anyone with termination for speaking to media... if you feel like speaking with Katie Couric (she was there a few times) go ahead...but your sub contractors policy is termination upon identification LOL so you would be fired and black barred from BP projects for speaking to media.

the good thing is lots of people using cellphones allowed me ease of cell phone pics but the quality is suffering. I did bring my digi camera for some operation pics but was never able to use good camera when in full Tyvek suit and covered in oil.

I worked on a reed cutter and pulling booms on the Wabamun Lake spill outside Edmonton a few years back. That was only 40 some train cars and around 1mil litres. The mess was fucking ridiculous, and that oil gets into fucking everything. 5 years later tarballs and il sheen can still be seen in parts of the lake.I can't even begin to imagine just what a gigantic fucking disaster things are down there. I don't even want to ponder it, or how long the effects will remain. I would have worked longer, but I couldn't hack the heat all taped into the fucking hazmat suits they sealed us into. After an hour, there was literally like 4 inches of sweat in your boots. Good on you for your efforts, I'm sure it wasn't easy, but a learning experience that'll stay with you forever.

Hey thank you for bringing that to our attention... yeah I am waiting on the data to move all the sites right now.

They're only one of several hosts we use, but I haven't gotten to it yet with a one year old learning to walk over here! :warning :1orglaugh

cheers~! :)

if you are free to speak you should write up your experiences in a proper article. there would be plenty of venues that would like a real front line view.
