ever gotten ultra sick from eating fried foods?

i've been eating nothing but healthy foods for months now, with an occasional cheat meal, but have cut out fried foods entirely over this time.

out & about saturday night i cheated and had a big pile of fish&chips, became violently ill later and have lost over 12 pounds out the back door over the last 2 nights.

spent this morning getting an electrolyte IV, doctor said it was all due to my not being able to digest fried foods properly since i've discontinued them.

ever heard of that?

Deej 08-23-2010 06:00 PM

Only thought I had to say was only after binging healthy for a long period of time do i ever feel ill after eating fried goods.

soooooo yeaaaaa

Vendzilla 08-23-2010 06:01 PM

I've had hambergers like that
There is a great place for breakfast in town, food is awesome, but 30 mintues later, it's cleans you out. I don't know what they use, but it works like clockwork on me

CaptainHowdy 08-23-2010 06:02 PM

That's like a horror story to me...

baddog 08-23-2010 06:02 PM

Nope, never.

lazycash 08-23-2010 06:08 PM

I'd bet it had more to do with bad fish than the shock of fried food to the body.

iSpyCams 08-23-2010 06:09 PM

It means you're getting old.

I agree. I don't think you have been off fried foods long enough for it to have that kind of effect on you.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking

Deej 08-23-2010 06:13 PM

Yea, sounds more like food poisoning to me... to vomit so much you have to have ingested something truly bad to make the sickness escalate and maintain as much as it did.

i can't alter the fact that natural things get a year added every year. that said, i'm much more healthy than most my age, in fact, more healthy than peeps 1/2 my age.

my doctor even said i don't need certain scripts to deal with this (that he would normally give to people dealing with the same issue) as my body is so healthy it's dealing with it on it's own quite well.

:)

DWB 08-23-2010 06:23 PM

I used to eat lots of shit food. Started eating a TON of veggies (3 out of 5 meals) and never felt better. Also dont have to crap as much.

actually, it's bad news. not interested in losing weight, even if it's mostly water.

the doctor disagrees with your gfy diagnosis.

NetHorse 08-23-2010 08:10 PM

Well, I've had a similar experience but I never got "violently ill".

I went to India and ate nothing but light vegetarian home cooked shit for a month. Came back to the states and started eating fried food and red meat and felt sick from it.

No it was around 6 years ago...

Semi-Retired-Dave 08-23-2010 08:19 PM

I eat junk all the time so I guess my body is used to it. You cleaned yours out so it's saying, what the hell is this you are putting in me.

heymatty 08-23-2010 08:19 PM

There's a small possibility the batter was made with an egg from the salmonella outbreak. Pretty slim chance though.

yeah, that was my family's concern initially and i thought the same, egg batter. but i never got *sick* no vomiting, no nausea, nothing but the squirts. ugh.

anyhoo, feeling so much better with my electrolytes charged up. doc ordered me to drink 1.5 gallons of water/sugar free electrolytes for the rest of the week at least.

Spunky 08-23-2010 08:24 PM

Rancid oil to cook the fish and chips is my guess

nope, never got sick. rancid oil will make you sick from consumption.

X37375787 08-23-2010 08:53 PM

I know you can grow intolerant to fried foods, not to a point where it will make you sick. I too had a stint where I didn't eat any fried foods for about 90 days, then later I had some fried meat and french fries and I felt so ill and heavy after. Staying away from fried stuff is the way to go.

Sadly it's so incredibly tasty.

Chosen 08-23-2010 09:13 PM

I haven't...

it tastes great, comfort food. it's been 9 months since i had any fried foods at all.

Mutt 08-23-2010 10:32 PM

once every 6 months i get a craving for the taste of McDonalds and get a BigMac and QP with cheese. and every time I feel like dying afterwards. i could eat burgers off the bbq every day and not feel that way. digestive system is a finicky thing, if you don't eat certain types of foods for a long time, it seems to react like it's been poisoned.

it's like weed or alcohol tolerance, people who smoke and drink daily just get a little buzz - somebody who smokes or drinks rarely will get wasted very quickly.

GrouchyAdmin 08-23-2010 10:36 PM

Yep.

I had a bizarre combo of tacos and fries tonight; a local (now closed) mom & pop offered them as a special once, and now I'm hooked. I'll have it about once or twice a year.

I am praying for death and hope I can vomit before the calories hit, or slide on through.

I used to have that with KFC.

$5 submissions 08-24-2010 01:35 AM

I have. I try to avoid fried foods now. Since going vegetarian, I get WAY LESS stomach upset than when I used to eat fried meat.

Sarah_Jayne 08-24-2010 03:05 AM

If I am being really serious about eating healthy then anything fried or packed with sugar will leave me feeling like crud for a while.

ottopottomouse 08-24-2010 03:50 AM

Not had that off of fish and chips but have had it off of McDonalds.

gmr324 08-24-2010 05:37 AM

amazing how your body can adapt to rejecting food that's bad for you. I can't do McDs burgers or fried clams anymore without getting an upset stomach.

Glass objects.

I have Chron's Disease as well as a lactose intolerance and IBS. My digestive system is a total mess.

Fried foods are one of the things that do a number on me. But I still love to eat anything that's been fried up, so I just deal with it.

closer 08-24-2010 09:10 AM

By eating fried food, you're also actually eating about a table spoon of frying oil. If that oil isn't fresh or they use the "hard" lumps as frying oil, then that could cause a massive blow to your digestive system, especially if you aren't used to or have been off of fried foods for an extended period of time.

dyna mo 08-24-2010 09:15 AM

feeling much much better today. still recovering from the dehydration so won't be able to resume my work out routine today, hopefully tomorrow i can get back on that.

ShellyCrash 08-24-2010 09:32 AM

MY GI tract is a little fucky too. If I ate a pile of fish and chips same thing would happen to me, only add vomiting, but 1 day of that and I'm done.

Sucks that happened to you, only had to be rehydrated once before, and it was when I was at my absolute sickest. Hope you didn't wind up spending too much time in the ER to get it done.
