What to do when you catch your 14 year old son smoking?

Lots of parents on here, curious to hear of what some of you have done if you've caught them smoking.

My dad suggests putting him in a closet and making him smoke 5 packs in a row. Make him sick.

Others?

Juicy D. Links 06-23-2010 07:17 PM

Give him a beer to go with the smoke

or some Paddy's whiskey

Ignore it unless he was smoking a cock.

Amputate Your Head 06-23-2010 07:22 PM

Wait till you find out your son is secretly a high speed racing motorcycle stunt rider. Smoking will seem insignificant then.

L-Pink 06-23-2010 07:24 PM

You caught him smoking a cigarette not a sausage so already things aren't that bad. If he's being a man about getting caught make sure you act like a man also, forget that closet shit.

.

DateDoc 06-23-2010 07:28 PM

buy a few packs and make him chain smoke until they are gone or he pukes

That's what the old man says. Sounds like the best plan so far.

Because smoking is healthy and as a parent if I ignore this it's OK? :1orglaugh

You must be a life long smoker.

Spunky 06-23-2010 07:33 PM

Beat his ass with a belt

themadwriter 06-23-2010 08:03 PM

my mom made me eat the tobacco from a cigarette when she caught me smoking once. I have been smoking for 18 years now. Don't really see how she thought making me eat the tobacco would prevent me from smoking.

Not sure making your kid smoke till he pukes is the wisest choice. Talk to him, educate him and hope he doesn't start smoking is all you can really do.

Good luck and i hope he chooses not to take up the habit!

Never smoked in my life. Didn't say smoking was healthy, duh. I simply stated it's not that big a fucking deal, be thankful it's not something dramatic and now is YOUR chance to treat the young man as a man. Set the fucking example of adult behavior and not lock him in a closet till he pukes. Jesus.

Yea id make him smoke until he cries, then afterwards tell him that its his life and that he can smoke as much as he wants. Next time he smokes I think the smell alone will make him sick. :thumbsup

Way3 06-23-2010 08:15 PM

At 1:00 in! :thumbsup

BlackCrayon 06-23-2010 08:38 PM

there is basically nothing you can do. you can 'punish' him in whatever way but if he wants to do it, hes going to do it.

WinstonTriplexcash 06-23-2010 08:39 PM

are you a smoker yourself?

Agent 488 06-23-2010 08:41 PM

everytime he smokes kick him in the balls.

IllTestYourGirls 06-23-2010 08:41 PM

Its too late not much you can do now

Are you 14? You shouldn't be reading this forum.

Why?

WinstonTriplexcash 06-23-2010 11:56 PM

good luck, there's still a chance to get him off the habit. He's most likely smoking out of peer pressure. Be a friend and be a stronger influence.

Good luck to you. Smoking is not cool.

TheDoc 06-24-2010 12:00 AM

He smokes because his life is stressed out... bullshit at school does that to kids, toss in some parent b.s. and you have stress. Sit out back, have a smoke and share a beer with him and ask wtf is bothering him so much that he has to smoke...

Litzer 06-24-2010 12:01 AM

Obviously it's the cool thing to do when you are 14. Have your wife talk to him and have her cry. No one wants to make their mom cry.

PiffStenis 06-24-2010 01:58 AM

Do what your dad said. He'll then get nauseous at the smell of smoke. Gotta be better than cancer 20 or 30 years from now.

I personally doubt it is that complex.......

I did, I asked my dad. He raised 7 kids.

I'm fishing for other ideas because believe it or not there are some intelligent people here. Not all of you are worthless trolls.

SuzzyQ 06-24-2010 02:51 AM

My husband wishes he never started smoking. He has been trying to quit for months with little success.

PersianKitty 06-24-2010 02:55 AM

first and foremost, educate. Even thought he likely has already heard it all in school....detail out the health issues, the costs, etc ( can't believe how much a 2 pack a day habit must cost these days).
I've never been a smoker. My brother did when he was a kid...my parents forbade it from their premises. They found a pack in a jacket a few weeks later and took him to volunteer a few days in a hospice for terminally ill folks...many who had cancer, emphysema, etc.

With my two boys, i refused to wash clothes that smelled of smoke and withheld allowances and made them skip family outings (somewhat grounded) if I ever found signs of smoking. Went through it with my youngest around the age of 15 or so. My oldest didn't mess with it much until he was over 18. In both cases, it was always more about what the kid they were doing and not so much their own idea. Neither of them smoke now, thank goodness. Course I'm uber sensitive to the smell. They used to have a friend (after they both were 18) who would come over and smoke outside in the lower part of the house. With all the doors and windows closed and from over 100 feet away, I would smell it and say something cause I thought someone was smoking in the house.

Good luck.

My father did that to me and then I smoked 60 a day for the next 20 years. :2 cents:

scarlettcontent 06-24-2010 03:33 AM

good lad, your not doing hard drugs have a beer with that son :thumbsup

BlackCrayon 06-24-2010 04:19 AM

my parents said they were going to take me to the hospital so i could see people dying of cancer from smoking but they never actually did..i eventually quit at 21 because i preferred to smoke weed instead.

CruelMedia 06-24-2010 04:58 AM

well at first you should see how much he smokes by allowing him to smoke in your presence.. then make him smoke 'till he gets sick.. and always make fun of him for smoking in front of everybody.. make him feel stupid for smoking..
also search for some documentary about smoking and effects and watch it with the whole family.. and make fun of him.. bust his balls.. he deserves it.. :pimp

I'd teach him to blame George W Bush for his smoking and other problems :winkwink::1orglaugh

Ramp 06-24-2010 05:05 AM

I'm almost 100% sure, if he likes smoking and if he's smoking already sometimes.

You can't make him stop. The only person that can do this is himself.

Nobody made me stop smoking, just me.

VHNet 06-24-2010 05:16 AM

Ok, if you want some honest advice...I'd force him to volunteer for a month at a lung cancer hospital with people that were lifelong smokers. See them on oxygen, barely able to function...shitting themselves, getting fed through a tube.

He's the only person that can make him stop. Maybe seeing what the shit does to you will make him think twice about it.

Doesn't always work. I know cancer nurses that smoke.
