When you think '80's bands' who must be included?
I am setting about revamping an 80's themed music site I have neglected for too long. I am aware that I have a particular vein of 80s music that my mind tend to go to and that I may overlook bands that other people think are 'must haves' for the decade.
My list will always include bands/singers such as: Depeche Mode The Cure The Smiths R.E.M. New Order Human League etc And of course I am not going to forget Prince, Madonna, Michael Jackson and Cindy Lauper but who else is a must have for you an any 80s list ? |
Guns 'N Roses owned the late 80s.

I saw them last time touring for the Sweet FA album but would go again if they came back. Since then, I saw Bauhaus twice but there's no comparison to the Resurrection tour they had in 98. That was a dream come true. My all time fave band from that genre has to go to the Sisters of Mercy. Absolutely amazing music. |

Stiff Little Fingers
Exploited Discharge Puke and the Puddles |

Goddamnit, where are the hair bands????
|
See with The Clash, I always sort of want to stick them in the 70s just on when I think the did their best stuff. But I suppose most of the more mainstream stuff was 80s.
|
Duran Duran were huge in the early and mid-80s, as were Culture Club, Wham & George Michael, Tears For Fears, The Smiths, etc.

Although he released an album (David Bowie) and several singles earlier, David Bowie first caught the eye and ear of the public in the autumn of 1969, when the song "Space Oddity" reached the top five of the UK Singles Chart.
Bowie isnt 80's in my opinion. He was an up and coming start in the late 60's early 70's |
