Bowie isnt 80's in my opinion. He was an up and coming start in the late 60's early 70's

i'm with y'all, i don't really care for the 1980s bowie, kinda like the 1990s adams!

Just kidding, guys!

John-ACWM 02-11-2010 09:59 AM

First name that came in my mind was 'Queen'.

So many great bands listed here. I was gonna start quoting people but it just got overwhelming.

Dyna Mo's gonna make me break out my Aldo Nova shirt.

A few I'll add-

Adam Ant
Talking Heads
Psychadelic Furs
Tangerine Dream
Shreikback
Gang of Four
Echo and the Bunnymen
Stray Cats
Killing Joke
The Church

It's hard, there are alot of bands that I like from that era that kind of straddle the decades, like the Clash mentioned above, also The Stranglers, Wreckless Eric, etc.

So many good bands, hard to know where to start, but that's what comes off the top of my head.

Also Big Country by Big Country is one of my favorite songs ever and I don't know why.

for me, i've really returned to my music roots over the last year, in particular, the band that got me into alternative music, the b-52's.

feel free to play this track on another tab whilst surfing gfy.

I love the B-52s but the Rock Lobster, Private Idaho stuff rather than the Love Shack era (though that is a fun song when in the mood) .

Cyber Fucker 02-11-2010 10:23 AM

Metallica, Motorhead, Mercyful Fate, The Sisters of Mercy... and many more

i'm with you, again. to be historically accurate though, the best b-52's tracks were laid down in the late 70s. so technically i am off a decade.

Very true, too bad their hit singles kind of distort their image, cause they have so much interesting atmospheric stuff on their albums.

Just recently finished the biography of Shane Mc'Gowan

Hopefully I'll get to se The Pogues yet.

Love Stray Cats too

The one single biggest musical personality to come out of the 80's - I guess I'd have to vote for Prince, including his gay rise to the stardom he was everything he wanted to be in the past 30 years and kept total control over his music and business.

Adult Media 02-11-2010 04:05 PM

80`s pop (some dross, some not)

Johnny Hates Jazz

Pale Shelter is my favourite from them. That is just a properly good song.

My first husband had an on-again-off-again sex meetup relationship with Toyah back in the 'the day'. Then, I move here and she was hosting 'The Sex Show' . Yeah, no pressure! lol

thats a trip, i really remember her most from this great music doc called "Urgh A Music War" which has a killer tune of hers on it and many others in that list including Wall of Voodoo who actually have their version of Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire on an 80's porn film called "Night Dreams" directed by Steven Sayadian aka Rinse Dream.

So did Aerosmith after they went to movie soundtrack hell. Doesn't change the fact that they used to be way better.

Nor does it change the fact that he sold out. I wasn't disagreeing with your assessment Sarah baby. ;)
