People with NO INSURANCE

Big controversy.

I have no insurance since I'm off my parents last year. Last night I got smashed in the fuckin eye and my fuckin eyebaall or something is bleeding. What do I do?

I'm undecided on this government insurance shit but I think it sounds good for all the un insured mother fuckers like me right now.

st0ned 08-06-2009 02:13 AM

Depends on how often you have a need for the insurance...if not often you can pay a low monthly fee with a high deductible. If you plan to use it often then a higher monthly fee offers a lower deductible.

The only reason I have health insurance is because I decided to add myself to the plan I got for my kids. Otherwise I don't use if often enough and always just paid the visit fee out of pocket.

No idea what the dumbass president is trying to offer, but I don't believe in plans that are based on the tax dollars of hard working people.

Joe King 08-06-2009 02:16 AM

Yeah good idea. Wait for Obamacare to kick in before you have a doctor look at it.

BSleazy 08-06-2009 02:20 AM

What should I do about my bleeding eyeball right now????????????

SleazyDream 08-06-2009 02:21 AM

move to canada

if you're poor and live in the usa and need medical help, you're fucked.

DWB 08-06-2009 02:22 AM

Go to the hospital, they have to treat you.

You will get billed later for it, what you do with that bill is up to you. You could also try a free clinic, but since it's your EYE, I would be going to the hospital.

It works for all the illegal Mexicans, it will work for you too. It just won't be cheap.

That's the whole problem. The poor don't get any preemptive medical treatment.

That is EXACTLY what I have to do with my Teeth Shit :Oh crap, shitty thing is, all I need them to do is write me two scripts lol.

But go to the ER, get treated, get a bill in a week or two (sometimes less) be prepaired to get at LEAST a $500.00 bill though (depending on what they do to ya)

I get socked with about a $400 bill every few months, I'm lucky though the local hospital DOES NOT send to collections and as long as I send um a few bucks each month they stay off my ass.

Now in Petoskey is a whole diff story, my ex was over there for a weekend, got a whicked ear infection, she went to their ER, (got a painkiller and a script wrote) and they socked her with a $1,500 bill and GARNISHED her paycheck for the bill :1orglaugh

Really all depends on your hospital I guess.

I still find it better to do it my way then to fork out the money for insurance (most won't cover my dental cause it's HARSH and pre-existing :( )

My alternative is the "walk-in clinic" where I gotta pay $150.00 upfront to get them to write the two scripts I need, THEN pay the $75.00 for the scripts, AND my teeth infection better not hit me after 6pm or I can't go to the walk-in lol

Shitty thing, I just had to go to the ER on Monday, the pills have not fully kicked in yet so I've been in SERIOUS PAIN for the last few days :(

So why did they refuse to treat my friend in the US?

And why is life expectancy so poor in the US? I imagine it's largely those who turned down.

Alsp if they treated you for free then chased the bill a lot of people would not get insured,

Only private hospitals can turn you down. No public hospital turned your friend down. They don't turn illegals down, you don't even have to speak...

Life expectancy is right up with any other Country, I don't know why you think it's so poor.

And hospitals bill you after you stay. If you gave them the wrong info, they couldn't bill you. Lots of people skip out on the bills, that's why hospitals like this rely on donations and your taxes.

Probably went to a private hospital.

It's a god damn crime that any hospital would turn down anyone.

Not true.. Find a doctor and talk with them about going cash.. Be honest tell them what you can afford.. 50$ In their pocket cash and not having to lose any to some company is something they like and something you will see more and more doing.

Hell the fucking doctors here are making a killing.. Visit is 40$ They are usually partial owners in the labs and or partial owners in the pharmacy.

fallenmuffin 08-06-2009 06:55 AM

I just started seeing a family doctor a few weeks ago. Went in talked to him for 10 minutes, got my script, paid $250 in cash.

He wants to do an EKG on my next visit.. wonder what that is going to cost.

The Heron 08-06-2009 07:26 AM

Get your own insurance, it's not that expensive usually if you shop around and actually do some work.

Slick 08-06-2009 07:27 AM

Since your in Michigan, pick up Blue Cross / Blue Shield. I pay $442 per month for my entire family and they pay 70%, I pay 30% of my medical bills and perscriptions. I'm sure for a single guy, it can't be too pricey.

Not always cheap. I had a plan like that with a $5000 deductible because I rarely see a doctor and it still cost me over $100 a month. Over $1200 a year for what? If I actually got sick enough to use the insurance I'm out $5000 before the insurance kicks in.

That's tard answer. You have ZERO clue as to how things work. When someone like the OP who has no insurance needs to go to the doctor they go to the ER which is really expensive they typically don't have money to pay the bill. Who pays? YOU. People without insurance get a little sick and don't go to the doctor when it would be a easy cheap fix, then because they waited they get REALLY sick and need hospitalization. Once again they are broke they have no cash. Who pays their bill? YOU. Anyone with half a brain would realize it's CHEAPER to help these people go to the doctor instead of paying for thier hospitalization or needless ER visits. Do you think the hospital is eating these cost? No. They charge higher rates to insurance companies and paying patients. YOUR insurance company isn't going to eat these higher costs they are going to increase your premium. So "hard working" people are already paying for the health care of those without insurance. Except they are paying MORE than they would if those people had some kind if insurance. Also The only people effected by any increase taxes would be those making over $250K. It never ceases to amaze me by people that care so much about millionaires and billionaires and thier taxes and couldn't give a rats ass about poorer people. As if the rich need your sympathy or help nor would they appreciate it nor would they care about YOUR problems.

Besides no has said people would get FREE insurance. I think the haters and dipshits don't do much research.

For example our state has state health insurance for ALL children. That doesn't mean that parents get FREE health insurance for their kids. At a minimum there are co-pays. Also since 90% of our state income is derived from sales taxes, parents are technically paying for the insurance since nearly everything you buy including food is subject to sales tax.

I told you before that he could have been treated and not paid the bill...but just pay a token amount at the bill. If your friend told you anything different then your friend is lying. In addition you are correct...that is one reason people do not get insurance...and it is also a primary reason for high medical costs...people not paying the bill or even at the bill.

The fact remains that anyone in the U.S. that needs treatment...they will be treated...with or without insurance...and with or without money...and with or without payment.

This... besides the dumbass president ^_^ but I can't lie, I have been feeling the same about him for the past month or so...

Anyways, I was in same boat, was under my fathers insurance for quite some time, excellent insurance, but when I became of age I had to look for new insurance. I was fortunate enough to pay a additional amount to his insurance plan (very reasonable) and stay on with them.

I would ask your father to inquire about you continuing to use the insurance under his name as this will save you TONS of money.

Goodluck and get that eye checked out asap, even if you have to go to a free clinic...

Wow, must suck to live in SWAZILAND.

I didn't notice you were in michigan, that makes my advice even more accurate. BCBSM is insurer of last resort meaning they have to take you no matter what and they have a bunch of plans that should fit your needs. You might get cheaper rates with another provider if you dont' have pre-existing conditions so do your homework. Either way if you are making a living you can afford some type of insurance in michigan no doubt.

Life expectancy is right up with any other Country, I don't know why you think it's so poor.

And hospitals bill you after you stay. If you gave them the wrong info, they couldn't bill you. Lots of people skip out on the bills, that's why hospitals like this rely on donations and your taxes.

Well they turned my friend down because he did not fulfill anougn of the requirements.

As for life extancy, these lists disagree with you.

This one said it dropped this year.

The fact remains that anyone in the U.S. that needs treatment...they will be treated...with or wThen why do people bother getting insured?
Seems to me that people would not bother if they were going to get free health care, unless they have a house to lose. But the truth is they would not operate or treat him and Medicaid turned him down.

epitome 08-06-2009 10:27 AM

Go to the ER; they have to treat you.

Expect the bill to be at least $1,300 for every 2 1/2 minutes somebody spends talking to you.

Pay that bill off at $5 per month, always making faithful payments, and it will never show up on your credit report as bad debt.

Here is what I don't get... you have a join date of 2002, but you just got off your parents insurance. I thought you cannot be on parents insurance past 21 or 22 or something?

Were you 12 when you joined GFY or did you acquire a seasoned nick?

DOn't bother arguing with Paul. He's not interested in any facts, it's all about emotion with him.

Fortunately, he's going to live almost 2 years less in his beloved Czech republic than he would in the good old USA. Also, the country that his friend "couldn't get treated in" has the highest treatment rates for the specific cancer his friend had. Of course in Paul's mind the UK has a 100% treatment rate, because of his sample size of 1. You and I can all understand this simple math but it's way beyond Paul.

I think the life expectancy thing is really about how we take care of ourselves.. if most of the population is obese do you really think we will have the highest life expectancy?

Yes and the hospital will just pass that cost to insurance companies which will in turn raise rates higher than any tax increase that would be needed to make it wher the OP could have just gone to the local docotor. But haters and neo-cons don't want to hear logic and facts.

You will get billed later for it, what you do with that bill is up to you. You could also try a free clinic, but since it's your EYE, I would be going to the hospital.

It works for all the illegal Mexicans, it will work for you too. It just won't be cheap.

Yep, go the the hospital.

Hence the "no clue". But thank you for being concerned enough to draft up a lengthy paragraph. :1orglaugh
