Damn... over 80% Unemployment rate
Over 80% unemployment rate for recent college grads http://abcnews.go.com/Business/story?id=7636561
Scary numbers. :helpme |
80% of twitter, facebook, myspace etc junkies are recent college grads
fuck them more room for those who take life serious |
It shows that spending 120K for a piece of paper makes you no better than a high school drop out. What I can't understand is how people live these days with the cost of living so high. :2 cents:

The attitude with college grads is very crappy.
I am a partner in a local biz and was looking for a person to hire, was more than willing to give a local college grad a chance at it, we offered a more than fair starting wage with raise in 3 months if he was as good as he said. He turned us down flat, he wanted top dollar from day one, keep in mind this dude has NO experience at all, just the education. So to this day he is still unemployed and will probably remain that way for a long time to come. Its a good thing mommy and daddy let him live with them still. |

They're educated idiots. I'll go to college for a few years get a bullshit degree in something meaningless, start life with 30,000 debt and get a job flipping burgers.
Oy. |

I think this statistic is more a function of these kids being "recent" grads, and therefore looking for their 1st job at a time when nobody is hiring, in fact most companies are laying people off. I imagine the unemployment statistics for "recent high school dropouts" is pretty bad too. :1orglaugh Here's an interesting graph for you. http://www.calculatedriskblog.com/20...-level-of.html |

One of the problems I see is that the unemployed that are getting benefits have no reason to take any of the jobs available.
They take home more on unemployment than if they were working, there are help wanted/now hiring signs all over around here. Now that the benefits have been extended why go get a job?? Granted these are not the highest jobs on the ladder but why even try when you don't have to. |
They dont need to be unemployed most graduating now have a sense of entitlement and think the jobs they can get are "under them".
|
people need to do proper degrees, no more 'drama' and shit

Wow, a lot of hating in here. I take it some of you may have some deep seeded feelings of anger and regret for not going to or finishing your education? Seriously, whats with the negativity about college? Are you douche bags serious? Oh never mind lol, I forgot, knowledge is not power, nah it means nothing!
Yea! Fuck education! Fuck books!! WOOOO!!! Lets burn books like Hitler did. YEA WORLD!!! YEA, LETS ALL SELL FUCKING PORN!!! who needs education anyway? |
but no too serious...

There are some serious mixed emotions in this thread vis a vis education.
One guy says that it's "wasting 120k for a piece of paper that makes you no better off than a high school dropout", and then the same guy says later "he regrets not going to college and at 42 is still thinking about doing it" WTF?? I'll agree that college isn't "necessary" to be successful, especially if you're an entrepreneur, but to think that you're somehow better than someone who went to college because you were successful without it, is pretty stupid. |

The people who hate are the people who did go to college and have shit to show for it, those are the people who sit on forums all day and correct peoples spelling and grammar, last time I checked good spelling and grammar doesn't affect your bank balance. Those who sat their asses day in and out in college, dreaming up what they will do once they are done, talking about their pipe dreams to their friends and family just to finish college to discover their friends who didnt go are running real companies and making real money, those are the people who have hate. Here are some billionaires who didnt go or didnt finish any college, maybe if they did they would of been as successful as you? Bill Gates, Larry Ellison (Oracle), Paul Allen, Michael Dell, Richard Branson (Virgin Atlantic etc. Didnt finish high school), Steve Jobs, David Geffen (didnt know hes worth over 4 billion, oh wait thats because I didnt go to college). http://www.pennylicious.com/2006/10/...aire-dropouts/ Its all about motivation, dedication and 0 procrastination, tell the story about how important college is needed to the 1000's of Italians, Jews, Russians, Chinese, Greek etc people who came to the USA barely speaking english and all they had was the clothing they had on them and within years became very successful. |
good for them

But 99% of the population is going to end up working for someone else, as opposed to being an entrepreneur, and those 99% are going to be much better off with a college degree. The statistics just bear that out. People with 4 year degrees have much higher average incomes and a much much lower unemployment rate than people without. BTW, did you get the email I sent you yesterday? |

a.) struggle your whole life, by having some shitty $10/hr job b.) take a shot at good life, by working your ass off, taking a risk, starting some business, etc For college grads it looks much better: a.) find a job and live comfortably b.) work your ass off, take a risk, start a business, etc to live a little more comfortable life Option "b", doesn't look that great anymore, why take a risk, etc, when you are doing alright as is? |

well did you ever notice that self made millionaires in many cases have kids that are the total opposite, don't want to work, lazy etc? thats because they rely on their parents and it allows them to be lazy. many people walk around with their degree and think this is all I need, they rely on it to much. as time goes on more and more companies dont give a shit about degrees but rather want specific talent and proof they can do what they say they can vs. here is a paper trust me. just like you say those people would of been successful no matter what I can guarantee you that many guys who went to college and are not successful is because they relied on it to much and cant think outside the box, tons of kids who go to college only do so to please their parents. People get very creative when they have nothing to rely on, its why many people when they reach a total bottom they can do amazing things. My point in all this blabble is that right now and I mean right now there is EXTREME opportunities out there for the few that are left who are dedicated and motivated, to do things on your own or with teams that are all in a seriously motivated mind set, but its very few who take advantage of times like this, the world is full of people who have stories how they coulda shoulda woulda, college or no college its a great time now, when the markets turn around those who gave it all right now will shine. Its all about innovation, those who innovate can kick the biggest fortune 100 companies asses. Think about the following: Amazon.com a company founded in mid 90's took on barnes and noble a company founded in 1873! and amazon now has the lead Netflix founded in late 90's kicked blockbusters ass a company that was started in 1985 Apple comes out with a ipod and destroys entire industries like cd players, cd's etc all because they where thinking outside the box, they did the same with the iphone, they didnt give a shit that they are not a company in the phone business, they figured out unique technology to make life easier for people and gave giants that had a hold on that business like motorola, samsung etc a run for their money These are extreme examples the point being is that if you think outside the box, and come to market quick and powerful you can really take over a % of a billion dollar industry. |

For those of you who have been successful (or plan to be successful) without a college degree, let me ask you this.
Do you have kids, and if so, do you want them to go to college? Are you saving money to pay for their education? This group of people that EscortBiz mentioned Bill Gates, Larry Ellison (Oracle), Paul Allen, Michael Dell, Richard Branson, Steve Jobs, David Geffen. Did they send their kids to college? |
thats huge number of unemployed young people...thats ant good at all..i hope things will go better in the next couple of months!
