Yes I have empathy for the people he killed and the lives lost during the war, some where even relatives.

Important lessons where learned during that period and out of it also came some very important technological advancements that very well may have never came out or would of been delayed potentially a very long time without the war. Then knowing a good chunk of the ideas, some of the technology, and many of the scientists were acting under his orders for self preservation or ideology.

There's also a theory/rumor that Engelbert Dollfuss (Chancellor of Austria) had a file about Hitler's ancestry (a kind of insurance policy) and that this file ended up in the hands of Reinhard Heydrich after Dollfuss was murdered by the nazi's.

Actually, if someone could lay their hands on a time machine they'd get a lot more bang for the buck by forgetting about baby Adolf and instead preventing a certain particular assassination in Sarajevo. Do that and you (probably) avoid WWI which saves you another 15 million or so lives. More importantly, no WWI all but ensures that neither Hitler nor Stalin ever amount to much.

I don't know about you but I don't think today's world be any worse off were it not for all that past death and destruction.

Perhaps Hitler dies, someone else takes his place. War is delayed and nobody targets the jews. Then those scientists finish the atomic bomb and one of the many other villains of the times takes control. UK and Russia are nuked.

Environmental disaster - again not related unless your adding in the very few atomic meltdowns and uses in war. Though on the flip side atomic energy would be one of our safest forms of energy if we actually used it more, and that too would effect not only the economy but assorted crap in the Middle east.
