Ever think that if you just did "one" thing differently... Everything in your life would have been entirelly better?

If you had only shook this persons hand or took up that long lost stripper up on her idea for you to create that website for her back in 95? WHAT IF that A&R guy liked my Demo? WHat if I had just chased music for the rest of my life and signed with that one band that got semi famous and just IF I were there it would have been world famous? All instead of Porn? I have had alot to reflect on as of late. My life is getting shorter with each day and I use my days wasting away for nothing. I have peace and quiet, to much peace, to much quiet.

I am 36 now and alot of memories bother me I could have an entirelly different life yet I chose this.

I Everyone and thier fucking mother is a designer these days, it does not take much skill especially if you work in Adult. I wouldnt dare open up a business, Adult Media is so pervasive it makes no sense to try and make money in it as a business other than "Services" for those that are going for that run.

I and I mean Run as in Long Shot. A FUCKING LONG SHOT. I done the math, I know what a new business guy has to contend with, I know what they are up against.

Almost every fucking play has been made in this business online both Legit and non-legit. No one is going to come up with something so off the hook it brings in a new wave of wonder to the masses. It's not going to happen.

I do enjoy designing dont get me wrong on that, its a love hate thing for me and sadly the onyl way I can make ends meet and even that skill is becomming useless, again anyone can own photoshop and make a tour.

Not true nig. I can think of EASILY a half dozen to dozen micro niches that have little to no content, and you can make a killing. Some with next to no real quality competition. I do not do them myself because there is only so much content I can shoot as a small operation. I would need a partner, or more help that could shoot it all. Right now it's hard enough balancing all the work.

AlienQ blames everyone else for his lack of success in adult. Mean while everyone around him was able to make money. AlienQ didn't want to keep up with current internet technology, he didn't want to advance his skills and he got left behind.

branch out into mainstream design - it's a lot easier than you might think.

Just hope I can keep creative enough in design to stay competitive, and even that as of late is fading.

Anyone can own photoshop and make a tour...true. Anyone can take pictures too! Anyone can shoot & edit video. Anyone can...anyone can...anyone can. That frame of mind will never allow you to get where you want to go.

Here's a few things to keep in mind Alien.

1). You don't need a lot of clients to make a decent living. A couple of good clients will do the trick. A couple of good clients that you can take good care of...and that will take good care of you. Designers are everywhere....I've worked with a bunch of them but one of things I keep bumping in to with designers has nothing to do with their creative attributes, but has more to do with their servicing or "following through" attributes. I've hired a handful of designers and a few video editors this past year and the majority of them never met their deadlines. They would tell me that they would have something in a few days and a week later I'm still waiting. You want to set yourself apart from the crowd? You just need two things. Good creative skills and a knack for getting shit done on time. You want people to give you a try? Start promoting the fact that their design will be ready on time....or it's free. That'll give people an incentive to work with you.

After college, while working online part time. I worked in telco full time. I made good money, but I could not stand it. I was union, then management, then changed companies, and they started moving to micro management, and I left to start my own company.

I had my celebrity site making me some coin, and some other online ventures as well. So I was not going out completely on the hook. But it was a rough road the first few years. 18 hour days, 7 days a week until I hit my groove and have been rocking since. I also went though 10 years of drinking myself into oblivion because I was unhappy with my life, work, and so forth.

All that changed, and I wanted to be self employed. I wanted to live and die on my own sword. I wanted to never work for anyone again. Rise and fall at my own times. Live by my own rules. That was motivation enough for me.

I have had many many failures. However I have many more successes now. For all the ball busting I take from the board trolls. I could give a shit. I make some nice money on the content, the consulting, the ad network, and so forth. Regardless that most read the negative, it just gives me more press and people contact me on ICQ about business.

It affords me a lot of luxeries in remodling my house, working on some new projects, and so forth. So is it worth it? I mean, taking bullshit on the message boards? Yep.

I am not here to argue. I am not here to be your pal. I am here to do business. I am busy working my nut on the forums to make that coin. I do not care if someone doesn't like my ideas, think they are stupid, or whatever. I know what works. I would not offer my service, or guarantees if they didn't.

In the end... you only have to face yourself in the mirror BRO.

Josh, You have it all wrong! I genuinely care about AlienQ. I've known him for years on and offline. I've told him over and over and over again what he needs to do to be competitive as a designer in adult or mainstream and he just won't listen. He just wants to blame others. He is right. 100% always right about everything even when he's wrong.

Obviously, a man has to eat.


Set up mainstream design company/site

Because mainstream pays better than adult. Especially once you establish a reputation, and start doing development work for corporations and NGOs.


Start a blog with tips on web design

Use it to generate income both from advertising and from promotion of your mainstream design site. At the start, it will be just a blog, later on it should develop into a full-fledged site (including static guides), and even later a community (including a forum at the very least).


Give away freebies

Use them to promote the blog and your mainstream design company. Develop several WP themes, a bunch of customizable logos, maybe an icon set or two.


Work like a crazy guy, instead of ranting like one

Because 5 years from now, you want your income to be in the mid six figures.

For registering this month you sure seem to know a lot about GFY and it's users.. Either you're a fake nick, or you spent a good fucking portion of your time reading every possible thread you could.
