The Best Place in the world to Live !! WHERE ??

OK - I recently made a huge change in my life and moved to a very unfamiliar place. I am already thinking I made a serious mistake.

So my question now is :

Where would you move if you could just pick up and go right now - money no object ! ?? A few reasons why and maybe some visual proof (pictures) would be MUCH appreciated.

Brown Bear 11-14-2002 06:36 AM

Where did you move to?

quiet 11-14-2002 06:37 AM

Amsterdam. Costa Rica. Canadian ski-in ski-out condo located in a world class mountain resort.

those are my current picks.

Don't come to finland. 3 months out of the year it's the best place in the world. Summertime in finland is outstandingly gorgeous and wonderful.. but the 9 months of misery, rain and darkness suck donkey balls. I'm moving out as soon as I graduate (might take 17 years or so at my current rate).

I wanna move to a tax haven somewhere warm.

Bahamas suck to live.....hurricanes make you rebuild your house
twice every year....nice for a 2 weeks holiday but not a place to
live...

Florida has everything. I've traveled most of the states in the US and grew up in the Northeast, lived on the west coast for 16 years, and this beautiful tropical state offers the best all around lifestyle of any place I've seen.

Alt+F4 11-14-2002 06:52 AM

Everyplace is gonna have drawbacks. Rebuilding my house wouldn't really bother me tho. That's probably how I'd spent my time anyway. Building shit, planting shit, fixing shit and anything else I can do outside.

I also need to consider local drug and pornography laws :Graucho

ServerGenius 11-14-2002 06:58 AM

Costa Rica has 5 different Eco systems....which means that if you
like you have all weather types within driving distance....from
snow to carribean.....breath taking vegetation and a very relaxed
atmosphere.....If I leave Spain.....Costa Rica will be my destination.
Itīs on the top of my list of places where I would like to live....
If you havenīt been there.....book a holiday....itīs paradise!

Austrlia, sunny and warm, beautiful girls everywhere, double your money when you bring in US$. perfect beaches, cheaper to live than Canada or US. super cheap to fly to New Zealand for skiing holidays if thats your bag.

Half the adult internet industry is owned by Aussies so come join us :)

hehe just found this site,
surfers paradise (where I live) has a website with live webcams up and down our major surfing spots.

Got myself a Kite Surf 6 months ago, been so busy with work I haven't used it for awhile. Last time I was on it I took a 12 metre flight on land when this damn gale force front popped up behind me, damn those kites are hard to land when the wind it blowing 28 knots. I hooked out of my harness and the kite went into full power and I just went UP UP & away. It started coming down after 3-4 secs and I just let go, if I didn't I'd be in a tree or landing a car :)

If you want to see LIVE what the beaches here look like goto

the goldcoast is too humid... not that it's much better here.. if i didn't have air-conditioning i think i'd die. I absolutely love sorrento on the mornington peninsula... fine wine area.. small beach side community.. maybe new zealand..

netstarz 11-14-2002 09:19 AM

All I can say is you sure as FUCK don't want to live in Northern Michigan........... We have to hit Florida 2-3 times a year just to stay remotely sane.

i know. I've been to Cayman, and I don't like that too much... too commercial nowadays. But some small caribbean island would be perfect. I gotta see how it goes. When I leave finland I just sell my appartement and car(s) and get some startup cash to go. Some 4-500k$ should buy a nice little shack somewhere with a broadband connection and warm water.. all I ask. Those islands look damn nice too. :Graucho

Yeah i'm free tomorrow, lets catch up for a coffee if you have time.

YEP been to Grand Cayman (Cayman islands biggest island) and it is a lovely place to visit, some of the best diving anywhere, the sting raw tours ROCK! Jump into the water with 50 BIG sting rays and feed em very very cool.

BUT we were there for 9 days and after 1 week there wasn't much to do, I mean its such a pokey little island theres no night life or entertainment, I didn't see any movie threatres and they only had a very slow EXPENSIVE modem connection using Cable & wireless 1 megabit connection to FLorida via satelite for the whole island, NOT exactly broadband is it.

The only entertainment we found was a pool hall which was ok, but pool only lasts so long. No movie threates, no going for a cruise in your new car, no going to the movies, no live shows, very limited places to dine out.

Like I said great place to visit (and open tax free company heh) but not a good place to live in my oppion.

Sammy

Canary Islands

Low tax,low crime, perfect climate, near the sea, constant holiday atmosphere

And very few Muslims !

kmanrox 11-14-2002 11:05 AM

i'm already here =)

I like Montana and Vegas. I've never been to Amsterdam but I would love to go, my dad is from there and everyone I've met from there is really nice. I'm not big on the beach, I don't like to lay out or get a suntan.

Probono 11-14-2002 11:22 AM

Come to beautiful Tucson AZ . No snow, no water, no pesky trees. Mexico just 100km south politics just a little left of G. W. B.

UnseenWorld 11-14-2002 11:33 AM

I'm thinking about Thailand. I have a friend who lives on Koh Samui island (http://www.kohsamui.com/ http://www.kohsamui.org/). His monthly living expenses are about $1000 and include a cook, 2 maids, and an air conditioned house. You can vacation there in an air conditioned guest room for about $30 a night, and it looks like Hawaii before it got all built up. Flying on an Asian airline is pretty cheap: $700 or less R/T from the US West Coast.

RATBOY 11-14-2002 11:43 AM

If money is no object, why don't you just move every year? Aside from the annoyance of maintaining a legal business entity from place to place, that's what I would do.
