UK People: Anybody else think this Russel Brand / Jonathan Ross this is just stupid?

I mean seriously. Somebody needs to stand up and tell these people complaining to get a grip. Two people complained when the show went out then weeks later a tabloid takes up the cause and 18,000 people complain about something they never heard in the first place. How can you be offended by something you didn't hear?

I am not even a fan of either Brand and Ross but this is just getting so beyond stupid.

Marcus Aurelius 10-29-2008 08:13 AM

I have no clue what your talking about. what is the controversy you are referring to?

BigPimpCash 10-29-2008 08:18 AM

Well...

I am pretty open minded... I actually dont mind Ross and brand... however they were dicks... in any other business they would of been sacked already... they went too far in my opinion...

Sachs grand daughter is a blatent slapper... he probaly knows that himself... doesnt take much workign out when you see pics of her ! But do you need two people leavign you multiple messages on your phone, especially when you know they are doing it whilst broadcastign to thousands fo radio listeners...

I know its their shock style of performance... personally if I had been Sachs I would of gone down there and given them a slap... lets be honest Ross and Brand combined couldnt fight their way out a wet brown paper bag...

Clearly you aren't in the UK or you wouldn't be able to move for coverage of it.

Two comedians known for flying near the knuckle were doing a radio show together and they were suppose to have the actor that played Manuel in Fawlty Towers as a guest. He didn't show up so they called him on air and got his answering machine. So, they left a message which was a bit rude and included Russel Brand saying he slept with the actor's (adult) grand daughter (which is apparently true). The actor complained to the BBC and then a paper took up the cause of an 'elderly man being harassed' and now it is apparently more important than the economy tanking since it is front page news, members of parliament asked questions about it in the house and now the BBC have suspended both from working which has resulted in a lot of tv and radio shows being canceled (they are both on a lot of shows and Ross is pretty much the highest paid person on the BBC) until they are unsuspended. Even things that have already been recorded.

I hate mass stupidity and this is it.

Yeah they were dicks and I rarely ever find either funny these days. Though, I do appreciate the quick wit of Brand when he lets himself be clever rather than rude. It wasn't nice what they did but for the level of coverage and reaction this is just dumb. Geeze, Eastenders buried somebody alive at tea time a few months ago and that gets less complaints than a show barely anybody heard making a prank call to an actor.

Scott McD 10-29-2008 08:38 AM

I fucking hate the BBC, and i don't care much about Brand or Woss, however....... The uproar over this is just stupid when you consider the other things going on in the world right now. I'd like to know who these people are who actually take time out to complain about everything on the tv and radio nowadays...

sexy-babes.tv 10-29-2008 08:41 AM

Yawn Yawn Yawn.. They are comediens.. You ALWAYS offend people when you're being funny! Its stupid.. completely blown out of all proportion. I guess they got all the complaints from the blue rince brigade (old ladies)

WOW. yeah that sounds like a douchebag thing for them to do, but I agree, the punishment does not fit the crime. Sounds like the media is going overboard.

camuk19 10-29-2008 08:47 AM

Complete waste of time. Out of the 18,000 complaints, only like 10 actually heard the show, most of the complaints came in after it was covered by the media. It's fucking stupid, the only reason they're getting suspended is beacause The Sun would complain and call it "BROKEN BRITAIN" or some stupid shit like that.

When you consider the number of people the tabloids offend daily they really need to shut up.

Just saw the grand daughter on tv talking about being 'devastated' while wearing a total slapper top. People are losing their homes and this is what people care about. I wonder how many of the 18,000 complaints came from House of Commons phones to push attention away from the stories of the past two weeks.

BigPimpCash 10-29-2008 10:11 AM

I call Conspiracy...

it was the CIA instructed by Bush to help his mate Brown out... they will blame Brand on being Al Qaida... they are attacking out traditional institutes like Fawlty Towers the bastards ! next will be an attack on John Clesse...

On a serious note just because their are worst things going on in the world doesnt mean we ignore everything less...

If two employees in a company, lets say a bank phoned another employee and made the same references about that employees grand daughter what would happen ? just off to rinse my hair blue...

Yes comedians make offensive jokes... but this was very personal... not a genetal fat/black/gay joke... but personal comments made to the guys who daughter one of them fucked !

johnuk 10-29-2008 10:16 AM

It's so ridiculous, as if there's more not important stuff going on in the country?!! It's scary how much power a Nazi rag like the Daily Mail seems to have.

Brand and Ross are brilliant and always fly very close to the mark, that's what they do! That's why Jonathan Ross is the highest paid British TV personality and Russell Brand has the biggest radio show/podcast in the country. The girl involved is a slapper and surprise, surprise represented by Max Clifford!

They went too far this time, they've both apologised and should be allowed to carry on doing what they do best.

And the crappiest thing in that is telling somebody's grandparent you had sex with them in that it sort of violates the privacy clause between you and somebody you have sex with even if only casually. However, it doesn't deserve a week worth of front page coverage and calls for criminal charges. I mean, really.

Personally, I think the whole thing has been blown out of all proportion.

Andrew Sachs has offered forgiveness to Jonathan Ross if he makes the following statement:

"I Rarely Rile people but Retarded Russell bRand and I are Really Remorseful for our Rubbish, Rotten, Rude, Randy Remarks made on Radio about AndRew's gRandaughter. We tRuly RegRet any Rage, Ridicule, woRRy and embaRRassment Received by AndRew"

They're not any old employees though, one's the highest paid in British TV history and the other is making Judd Apatow movies in his spare time lol.

Just heard a DJ from Fife FM on Sky News saying if he did the same he'd be sacked straight away. Of course you would you dick, no one gives a shit if you turned up for your 2 bit radio show or not!

I wonder how much money she will make out of this to be honest.

Doesn't she have a website where she calls herself a "satanic slut" or something along those lines ??

Poor innocent girl... :disgust

When Brits aren't moaning about money, they're moaning about life. They got fed up moaning about money, so they switched to somebody's life.

The BBC need to get themselves in order and stand up against this BS - so 18000 people complained? Like you said, only a fraction of them prolly heard the show. Still, that's a drop in the ocean compared to the numbers listening to the show. Brand is always pushing the limits, that's why he's been sacked from pretty much every position he's held, and why the Beeb snapped him up.

Why the fuck don't 18000 complain about Wogan being a total douchebag and get him suspended?

It is pretty lame what they did though - I loved Manuel. Keh?

I see it as the BBC being afraid not to react and report on it every other second because they think people will point fingers and call 'cover up'. They need to stand up and tell people that 18,000 is a small percentage of the license fee payers and the rest just don't want to hear about it any longer.

I heard Kelvin Mckenzie of all evil people on the radio crying moral outrage. This is the most infamous editor of The Sun ever. The Sun is the largest cause of moron-ism in this whole country. I cry moral outrage about that.

In one of their songs, The Kaiser Chiefs have of one of the most on the money lyrics about modern British society that I have heard in a very long time and I was playing it in my head today every time the news went on about this. It goes "We are the angry mob. We read the papers everyday. We like who we like, we hate who we hate but we are also easily swayed".

I haven't heard Brown mention it . It was a member of the opposition that actually called for criminal prosecution. He justs wants the Mail readers to vote Tory.

I kind of like Russel Brand,

didn't really like the work he did for the MTV music awards,

and you can see how big of an ego he has some times which is disturbing, but overall a really funny guy when he has a bit of humility about him.

Actually, thinking about this. Anybody want to start a complaint campaign against something like Strictly Come Dancing? Surely it wouldn't take much to get people complaining via an internet campaign. I mean, I never watch the show (except when the inlaws are here because they make me) but I am sure they did something to offend me last week. I think I heard something about the swimmer guy being chanted at to take is shirt off. So, I call sexual harassment. If enough people complain, by this president, they have to suspend the show and we have to all behind that campaign.

For each complaint, the BBC consider that something like 2600 people will feel the same way. Im not sure of the exactly number, but its somewhere it that region. Most people dont complain about tv or radio shows, partly because they have a fucking life.

Then that is just dumb because you know he probably has no clue who Brand is and barely even knows Ross. See but that is the tabloid mentality forcing him into having to comment on dumb ass fist shaking things. If he doesn't then the tabloids scream he is ignoring 'the people'. I hate 'the people'.

Sarah youve lived in the US, do you think our tabloids are better or worse that US tabloids?

The tabloids here and in the States are different creatures. When you say 'tabloid' in the States you are generally talking about things like the National Enquirer and even the Weekly World News. They are rubbish and go after celebs but they are a joke and everybody knows it. Over here a tabloid is more correctly named for the shape and size of the paper but they claim to actually be newspapers and a certain portion of the population fall for it. It isn't even the celeb stuff with the tabloids over here because generally I could care less about celebs but it is the way they totally dumb down news and take stances that are clearly racist at times and use 'the people' as an excuse. It is also the hypocracy of them. The Sun will run a story about 'sex pervs' right next to their page with a daily naked teenager on it.

The shame is that this county is responsible for some of the best journalists in the world. They just work in broadcast (especially world service, Radio 4, etc) and leave 'the papers' to rot in the Murdoch sludge.

but those 18,000 people as tv licence payers, are paying brand and ross's ridiculously inflated wages, so they're entitled to complain wether they heard it or not. they did this to a grandfather of nearly 80, which is well out of order. but i agree the coverage this is getting is dispraportionate.

I don't agree with you roly poly pudding and pie kissed the girls & made them cry.

18,000 of those people only complained because of the media coverage - certain there not the listeners - Brand and Ross are funny as fuck. fuck the media

Chris Morris was so right with Brass Eye/paedogeddon. I quite like Brand, he's much, MUCH smarter than he acts, everyone moved by the tabloids to complain should be removed from the genepool.

I find your logic kind of akward ? so .. once people start "losing homes" . . all goes ? how does that make sens to you ?

when things go bad ? people can act accordingly ? ? kind of strange . . dont matter how times are . .people should not act in that way ..

Yeah and everybody else that didn't complain also paid their wages and think it is time to now shut up. If the people had actually listened to it and complained then fair enough but since only two people that actually listened to it complained the the rest are just trouble makers that smell blood and want to be a part in knocking somebody down off of their station. Why is it any worse because he is nearly 80? Surely rude is rude? What it wouldn't be so offensive if he was 50? If the grand daugher had been an actual child then fair enough but she is a grown up and I am fairly sure her grandfather had guessed she was having sex by now.

The real 'crime' is that it wasn't even funny.

My logic is that there is no way on this planet that this is of such important be a front page story for one day let alone several. This is not the most important story in the country which is what making it the lead story in every news broadcast suggests.

Again, it was rude, it was lame but it wasn't the huge crime it is being made into by the morality police who probably had forgotten the actor was even still alive but now suddenly care about his adult granddaughter's virtue.
