http://i38.tinypic.com/4iebdh.jpg

It's home is above our kitchen sink and we don't know what it is, don't want to have a dangerous spider in the house with a baby around, need to know if we can leave it so it keeps flies down, or kill the fucker asap.

DickDarkness 08-26-2008 11:18 PM

o dear.

you should evacuate asap.

Mr Pheer 08-26-2008 11:19 PM

knowing where you live and a clearer pic would make identification much easier

GrouchyAdmin 08-26-2008 11:20 PM

took about 10 pictures with cellphone its as clear as we could get, and we were almost touching it :( sorry

live in Northern Iowa, 5 miles from the Minnesota border.

papill0n 08-26-2008 11:40 PM

put it in a glass jar and let it go outside

Mr Pheer 08-26-2008 11:44 PM

looks like a common house spider, known as cobweb spider or comb foot spider - not dangerous

could be a crab spider, especially since you found it on the ceiling - not dangerous

I'm assuming its the house spider based on its color.

borked 08-27-2008 12:17 AM

could be a jumping spider?

http://www.marion.ohio-state.edu/spi...20aurantia.jpg

No idea cos it's difficult to tell. If so...

Jumping spiders
The jumping spider is probably the most common biting spider in the United States. People are caught by surprise and scared when they see the spider jump, especially if it jumps towards them. Bites from a jumping spider are painful, itchy and cause redness and significant swelling. Other symptoms may include painful muscles and joints, headache, fever, chills, nausea and vomiting. The symptoms usually last about 1-4 days.

Kill it first then try to figure out what it is.

Awesome, thats good to hear, I've decided tomorrow I'm just gonna catch it in a container and spray the thing with bug spray to kill it and any babies it has. Don't want to risk it biting the baby and hurting her even if it won't harm us.

Nah, not that, I know it's not.

GigoloShawn 08-27-2008 12:43 AM

Taste your urine. If it's salty, the spider's safe. Really! :thumbsup

marketsmart 08-27-2008 12:51 AM

I will not about argue with you on this one :winkwink: :1orglaugh

Just use some card and a cup or something flat and a container and then remove it outside.

I also would not be spraying any bug spray if your that worried about the baby. Look around and see if you can see an egg sack. Typically looks like a small piece of cotton caught in the web. Or better yet after you remove the spider just get a paper towel that is semi damp and just remove all of the webbing. Throw that away outside.

hjnet 08-27-2008 05:01 AM

It's a old Potato, save as long as you don't eat it!

David! 08-27-2008 05:06 AM

It's an arachdanus dil pietro, named after the man who discovered it in Italy.
I would catch it and release it far away from home.
It is probably full of eggs so you better act quick...

Pleasurepays 08-27-2008 05:30 AM

jesus.

"maybe it will kill my baby... or maybe it will just eat bugs... not really sure what to do"

sounds like a great bit of parenting goin' on over there

ro8in 08-27-2008 05:44 AM

Yep thats definatly a spider.. better get rid of it

NickPapageorgio 08-27-2008 05:54 AM

We get those in webs that go from the tree branches up to the house here. Walking around the yard at night is NOT recommended lol. Although they are pretty harmless. I leave spiders where they are for the most part. I'd rather have them eating mosquitos personally. :) Be glad it's not one of these. I snapped this pic after I killed it and posed him all nice and purty for the camera.

http://photophab.com/spideh.jpg

It is a brown recluse. We got them everywhere down here where I live in NC. Got these fuckers too. Cowkiller ants (which actually aren't ants at all, they are a breed of wingless wasps) Sting on these things is incredible so I've been told. They can kill elderly and kids lawl. Things don't die either. You can SOAK them with raid and they keep on truckin'.

NickPapageorgio 08-27-2008 06:02 AM

Oh, did I mention that brown recluse was on the side of the toilet bowl right by my leg as I was pinching a loaf? I had to break it mid turd so I could get up and kill that thing lol :1orglaugh

Sosa 08-27-2008 07:20 AM

This fucker scared the shit out of me a week ago as I was cleaning a bathroom downstairs. Went to move the shower curtain and seen it move inside the tub. Took quite a bit of raid to kill it. Usually we get wolf spiders in our window wells as they are 3.5 ft deep and they can't get back out, but never have seen something like this inside the house.

The picture was taken from the other side of the tub as it was at one end. Not zoomed in etc.

your question stemmed from concern for your safety of your own child... which was totally offset by your concern for whether or not the spider might eat bugs.

its pretty simple parenting math.

CIVMatt 08-27-2008 04:44 PM

Fuck that Josh, burn you house down and run... I hate spiders

Dagwolf 08-27-2008 04:49 PM

It's spider-man's illegitimate offspring, he had this fling with a trapdoor spider once and she dropped about a million babies. You should see the size of her welfare check.
