Dirty Dane 06-02-2008 07:36 AM

SmokeyTheBear 06-02-2008 07:54 AM

Adultnet 06-02-2008 07:59 AM

Spyce 06-02-2008 08:00 AM

I hate takeoff and landing, but I'm ok for the rest...

kooperclub 06-02-2008 08:04 AM

im afraid of heights

G.A.F 06-02-2008 08:05 AM

I don't like flying, but I'm not afraid.
I got a headache most of the times I flew. That's why I don't like it.
I will try some painkillers next time (which I always forget to take). A flight of more than 12 hours awaits me at the end of the month. :upsidedow

Correct, but still a lot of people out there would think nothing of getting in their car and driving at 70 mph for 5, 10, 40 or 50 hours instead of flying there in 2-4 hours, in spite of statistics saying that the likelihood of getting injured or killed in the car is far greater than that of air travel.

Then some will trot out the "yeah but I'm in control of the car" argument. Pure bunk. You're not in control of the 17 million other cars on the road. Fact is flying is safer, period.

Anette Dawn 06-02-2008 08:09 AM

onlt time i am scared when i am flying is when i am renewing my membership to the mils high club and i might get caught ;)

MaDalton 06-02-2008 08:11 AM

crockett 06-02-2008 08:49 AM

its not how often you die , its HOW you die.

In a car crash you usually don't know what to expect except for a split second beforehand.

If your wing breaks off during flight you will have a long time before you crash :winkwink:

I LOVE flying and plan on taking lessons so I can fly myself :) I used to work at ATL and would always plan on eating my lunch in a closed Eastern terminal that was closest to the runway where the planes took off and landed right at lunch time.

cleopatra0628 06-02-2008 11:24 AM

scary when you pass some turbulence.

2012 06-02-2008 11:26 AM

We were on an little 8 seater puddle jumper Eastern plane flying from Atlanta to Hilton Head and hit a HORRIBLE storm. We couldn't land with the wind blowing the way it was coming in normally so we had to fly several miles out over the ocean to turn around for the landing. It was scary but still a total adrenaline rush :)

(Yes, I like roller coasters too.......)

CurrentlySober 06-02-2008 11:35 AM

Not scared of flying itself... More scared of my teeth!!!

I'll explain... I once flew from UK to LAX and unknown to me I had a few small cavities in my teeth... At 35,000 feet, air pressure is different in cabin, and in the teeth... Result?

Incredible pain... I passed out from it! Now, if Im going to fly I allways visit the dentist first!!!

That is an overly simplified way of viewing the statistics.

The fact is that, once you adjust the data for the amount of time a person spends in a car versus the amount of time spent in a plane, it becomes very clear that the fatality rate PER HOURS SPENT TRAVELING is much greater when flying.

Oh, and I don't like flying

BV 06-02-2008 11:48 AM

I don't fly anymore.

(even though a Boeing 747 can flex it's wings 26 feet before they snap)

Pack a parachute in your carry on. :winkwink:

Btw, a chute won't do much for you if you have to bail out of your car at 60 mph. :1orglaugh

Oh, and I don't like flying

You're of course free to spin it any way you wish. What about all the millions of people who fly several hours every day for business? Do some of you even know how many flights there are every day, and how many people are on those flights? Yet you hardly ever heard of a plane going down, and when you do it's a big deal... because it is a rare occurance.

In the time I took to type this, 1000+ cars crashed, several hundred people died. But you go with your argument. :D

Spunky 06-02-2008 04:52 PM

I was at one time, but now I just drink a bit more and it's all ok

Ron Bennett 06-02-2008 05:10 PM

The most dangerous time in a commercial jetliner flight is landing, and that includes taxing to the gate.

Take off is risky too, but somewhat less so.

Cruising on a commercial jetliner is so safe these days that about the only thing one has to worry about during that part of the flight is the extremely remote possibility of being shot down by the government*.

* I say government, because 1. there have been numerous close calls (and some actual shootdowns abroad) over the years, and 2. rocket launchers, such as terror groups have, don't have the precision / range to reach an airliner 5+ miles (in reality the range would have be even further yet adjusting for angle) above the ground.

I'm not scared of flying in the least, I wish I could fly more often in fact.

Those are the two best parts . . . especially takeoff.

Kudles 06-02-2008 05:26 PM

No I love it!! I like when you take off it's fun.

That is obvious and has tainted your view of reality.

I get a little jittery - however, i have a very special ritual I do to qualm the fear...ask any one who has flown with me - they too trust in my lucky charms and prayers

Ayla_SquareTurtle 06-02-2008 11:28 PM

It's never phased me a bit, but my best friend who lives in NYC (I live in TX) has developed an intense fear of flying over the last several years for seemingly no reason. It's almost to the point where he can't fly at all. As it is, he has to take heavy sedatives just to walk onto the plane. It worries me because his job pretty much depends on his ability to travel, plus I don't see him as often.

Mutt 06-02-2008 11:32 PM

no fear of flying but i can't and won't be confined to any place or thing where I can't leave - a curse

EuroRev_Stacey 06-02-2008 11:36 PM

I am a bit scared but trying to overcome it while flying!
