nah but sometimes that possibility of 600MPH to 0MPH in .000001 seconds concerns me a tad

I've never been nervous during a flight. The only time I get edgy is when I'm really bored.

irinasp 06-03-2008 12:35 AM

not afraid of flying! I wasn't scared even when I threw myself from the plane(of course, I had a parachute) Just try to drink some alcohol... my friends say that it helps :)

Antonio 06-03-2008 01:28 AM

yeah, I was, my first 4-5 times I was scared shitless, then I didn't fly for like 10 years because of that, then I had to and I discovered that I'm not scared anymore

ps I'm so going to Egypt this summer !

When I used to fly, I was white knuckled scared on take-offs and landings, till one day, the 6 year old next to me said .. Lady, what's wrong? .. look at all the fluffy clouds.

So now when ever I'm scared I can hear that lil voice in my head ... look at the clouds.

Now I don't fly, cause it's annoying, not scary.

its not how often you die , its HOW you die.

In a car crash you usually don't know what to expect except for a split second beforehand.

If your wing breaks off during flight you will have a long time before you crash :winkwink:

Nice thought:Oh crap

Marky333 06-03-2008 08:54 AM

Flying? nah ... I'm afraid of falling :P

cybermike 06-03-2008 08:57 AM

I flew jetblue a ton when I was in college.. 50 min flights where sweet..

I still get scared out of mind at the little bit of turbulence.. if i ever get really bad turbulence I dont know what I would do

But I survived a roundtrip to thailand I think I can handle anything under 17 hours now if its a nice plane

Scott McD 06-03-2008 09:00 AM

Nope, not at all.

The only thing i hate is having to smell other people farts when flying though...

Gary_TLX 06-03-2008 10:02 AM

I'm not scared of flying, but don't like traveling at 500+MPH without seeing ahead. Not a fan of take offs and landings either, but I would never miss a trip because of flying. Actually I flew many small Cesnas and was the pilot of many gliders and I absolutely loved every second of flying like that.

So much so, that I want to get my pilot license for single engine planes and gliders. I guess it's the whole "not being in control" thing is what makes me feel uncomfortable during some flights.

Nope, not really.

For some reason discovery channel always runs a "mayday" marathon before the Vegas Internext show. And yes, I've seen almost every episode. But I still fly. :) I'm hoping that if the problem is known enough for them to make a tv show about it, it's probably fixed by the time I get on a plane.

But I still won't fly certain airlines due to bad maintenance records and such.

MichaelP 06-03-2008 10:21 AM

I used to be affraid back in the day but not anymore... Still don't like too bumpy rides though...

Advice, try sleeping pills... You won't sleep or almost won't, but it will raise your tolerance bar and you will be way more calm... :2 cents:

I'm not crazy about heights either, to be honest. But it's more of a ledge of a high building thing with me. Or if I have to go up a ladder more than two stories I get a little light-headed.

But with getting on a commercial air liner, your fear of heights shouldn't engage at all. There's no way to realize you are high up, and even looking out the window of the plane hasn't affected me in that way.

It's more like you are on a really big bus that is on a road that is sometimes pretty annoyingly bumpy, but with stewardesses and drink service.

That's it.

StaceyJo 06-05-2008 04:36 AM

I used to, but I love it now. Like someone else here said, I want to go for my private pilots license sometime soon.

Meanwhile, your fear of flying can be easily overcome with the following:

1 -Alcohol. Not enough to get drunk (they wouldn't let you on the plane) but a nice little buzz to take the edge off.

2 -Xanax. Once a small (1mg) pill kicks in you'll wonder what all the fuss was about. (Not to be used with alcohol)

3 -Study this: www (dot)fearofflyinghelp(dot)com
It's helped everybody I've turned on to it.

One more thing...Careful driving to the airport. That's the dangerous part.
