Time for a new bbq grill....

This is finally the year I'm going to break down and by a new grill for my deck. My 10 year old Broilmaster is way out of date. I'm looking for suggestions. Natural gas or able to convert to it... at least 650 sq inches of total cooking surface.

I looked at an infrared today (CharBroil Red), but I don't think I'm ready to go that far off with things

spunkmaster 05-22-2008 01:04 AM

Go infrared and you'll never go back !

It saves you a ton of gas because it heats up really fast and you can put the steaks on within a minute while the other part of the grill heats up.

The infrared doesn't cook meat all the way it sears in the juices then you move the meat to the lower temp part of the grill !

What's wrong with your oven?

Get a Weber Kettle and a bag of charcoal or don't bother.

Agreed! It takes a little time to get it ready but it works perfectly, gives great taste and smells good.

And is a pain in the butt when trying to bbq for more than 3 or 4 people.

DaLord 05-22-2008 04:09 AM

Grills with gas should be banned. Weber is the way to go and do it the old way.

BV is right!

Peaches 05-22-2008 08:14 AM

Natural gas isn't BBQ :(

Get a Weber charcoal kettle grill, buy some good hardwood charcoal and REALLY BBQ :)

I've been to parties with more than 50 people and a couple of Webers. Never any problems with trying to BBQ for a lot of folks.

BV is right, maybe buy 2 . Then, for large parites, break out the duece.

you'll never be sorry that you own 2 weber's :2 cents:

Vermont Castings - The best grills :)

I love to roast a chicken with my beer steamer and the smoke box full of mesquite chips -- SO tasty!

drocd 05-22-2008 08:27 AM

I had this Weber BBQ and it ROCKED! I highly recommend it.

drocd 05-22-2008 08:31 AM

Or, if you want to spend a little more, I'd recommend this Lynx grill.

Once I tried the woodflame I was sold.

It's a battery operated BBQ that burns wood to cook your food by blowing hot air from the bottom up. You can have all kinds of smoked taste as you can burn many different type of woods like cedar or pine...

Seriously check it out, I have been making the best tasting meals on this bad boy

No Gas, No Charcoal, It's Portable and Ecological

Great for camping or at home.

Here is a little sample of my Hawaiian Pork Chops cooked using the "indirect" method on my Weber (charcoal) grill.

Have you really smoked using those woods before? How did the meat taste?

Meeper 05-22-2008 09:33 AM

As much as I love the convenience of a gas bbq, it will never compare to the taste that wood & charcoal grills give their food. Just my :2 cents:

'So Fucking Money 05-22-2008 10:26 AM

propane is up to 4.75 a gallon. I'd much rather get a charcoal one now a days. Better taste too. Nothing like some good barbecue. Slow cooked up some pork ribs for 3 hrs 2 weeks ago. Best ribs ever! Got the meat at costco.

Bex 05-22-2008 10:28 AM

Get a weber! They make great gas grills.

RP Fade 05-22-2008 10:56 AM

Since we're on the BBQ topic and I recently started BBQing, what does it mean when they say 'indirect heat' in a recipe for grilling on the BBQ?

And yeah I was told Weber and Bull are both very good brands.

TubeTitans_SusieQ 05-22-2008 11:00 AM

omg those porkchops look soooooo good lol

It means you don't have flame/heat directly under the meat, but instead place the meat on one half of the grill, and turn up the burners on the other side. So it cooks similar to an oven.

I am sold, but can't find one. They list Canadian Tire and Rona as retailers but both don't carry them out west. This would be perfect for me, so I'll keep searching.

RyuLion 05-22-2008 12:24 PM

mesquite charcoal always adds the best taste to all meats..:2 cents:

IF you have a hard time finding one I can try to see if I can get one for you in Montreal and ship it. Just hit me up buddy :thumbsup

BV 05-22-2008 12:26 PM

Inderict = not direct
coals on 1 side meat on the other

For example, those porkchops you see up there or anything I cook indirect like chicken never gets turned or flipped usually when using the indirect method with the lid on. The heat and smoke bounces back down off the lid which is concave.

So basically its as easy as pie.
Get your coals nice and grey, put your chicken on the oposite side of the coals, put the lid on and come back in 45 mins and take a peak and it's probably ready.

remember until you get good judgement its better to under cook and have to put back on
no one wants a dried out pork chop chiicken breast!

Thanks for the offer. I just emailed the company and hopefully they have a retailer out here. I would be out the door buying one this afternoon. Took a look at the demo video and am totally impressed.

Sad thing is.. I'm allergic to mesquite!

And worse than that.. I lived in Texas for about 6 years when I was young... place is loaded with mesquite.

Vegas Ken 05-22-2008 01:44 PM

I have this one and love it!

Got home from work last night -- and I threw a couple of Licks burger on the grill for dinner. Had some potato salad and hot peppers as well.

It was very nice :)

Going to grill some chicken this weekend -- I marinate it in a tikka paste for 24 hours, and then BBQ it. Serve it with a raita and a garlic naan -- very tasty!

tony286 05-23-2008 09:57 AM

Went to their site dont see anywhere on it where it can be bought.

Thank you for that explanation. :)

I've got a charcoal grill, and haven't had much luck in doing chicken without it being too dry. I'll try your method.

Actually the main times that propane is a big waste is if you have an enormous BBQ grill. 95% of the time are you really cooking for more than 3? I've always used a smaller one for "daily" type use and have a big one for as needed. Firing up a giant grill when you can make due with one half the size MOST of the time is just a waste.
