Fact: A Saint Named patrick wouldn't like you or your drinking
If Saint Patrick was real, he a) wouldnt like any of you "celebrating" his day - in fact since he was a religious man, b) he wouldnt want porn on the internet, etc... so why do you go around saying "happy Saint paddy day?" And c) he wouldnt like all the drinking going on his Holy Day... ;)
why people celebrate these concocted religious holidays is beyond me. Saint Patrick was never even canonized, he probably never existed, etc... |
no your right!
Im not Irish but this day sucks! I drink all the time and cant afford my god damn rent now! Im loosing my religion! Just stopped at the old house as ters came to my eyes and I thought where would I be if not here?:thumbsup |
Does it taste good? Sucking joy out of life? Get drunk and shut up you O'Tool.

AY MALE {well mannored)
Hello there. My name is Dave and I currently live in an apartment!.....my roomates sister had her kids taken away and my roomie is the next of kin so she has kindly asked me to move as she will need room for 2 little girls so I need to move ASAP so these poor kids will have a decent place to live...they deserve it!! right now I am willing to move ANYWHERE in MASSACHUSETTS.Of course I would rather find a place "close" to home here but I also keep thinking that a cahnge might be a great thing!!I dont currently have a car but the bus is just fine.Im used to getting around walking just as well also. .My roomie that I have now took a chance with me and says Im the best roomate shes EVER had.She would tell you Im quiet, clean, dont have dumpy friends and I RESPECT those that are around me.Ive been here I think about a year and not one problem has risen in the ENTIRE time Ive been here.Right now things are REALLY tough!! Im just asking PLEASE for a chance that not many people dont want to give.I dont party(except perhaps on a holiday or a very boring Friday night. :) and have only have a few people that would be stopping by for a quick beer(on RARE occasion) or maybe a movie. I am 44 years old..an "OFFENSE" happened in 1987 about 20 years ago!! I was just a 19 year old kid and I dated a 15 year old girl. The only reason I was convicted was the underage issue...this was NOT some vicious cold hearted crime. Ive got to be completely honest and inform you that I am a registered sex offender. This has caused me to be UNable to find sufficient housing.I got the minimum penalty the law allowed as she came forward and explained that the relationship was consentual so it was a STATUARY crime. We actually had a 3 year VERY loving relationship before this all came about! Yes,unfortunately she was just about to turn 18 when it happened. She even begged me to stay with her after all the legal issues were out of the way.So I HOPE you have an open mind and can see it for what it is. I am a carpenter and stained glass artist..I currently have 2 ruptured disks in my lower back that need an operation.I also have torn all the ligaments in my right hand and have an expected heal time of 6-8 months. I collect SSI so its POSITIVE PERMANANT income and its obviously guranteed so there would NEVE be a problem with payments. I am very mellow and quiet and I enjoy all outdoor things like hiking, biking, swimming, tanning, rollerblading and just about ANYTHING outdoors.I am also a dealer on ebay with 18th and 19th century porcelaine, pottery, sterling silver, china and a variety of other Antique items. So....thats the basic story. Can you find it in your heart to give me a chance?I need to be gone from here by the 1st.Im sure my roomie would be more than happy to talk with you if you like but I really think that I completed my punishment 20 years ago and although the registration law "MAY" provide some sense of comfort for society,,,it really hasnt accomplshed anything exept for to RE punish guyz like me that made a mistake as a kid and Im paying for it twice 20 years later and its NOT deserved. So..please think very carefully while you consider and I can promise you I would be the quietest and most frindly tenant you will find. Thank you very much in advance for your consideration. Dave |

and FWIW, I doubt there are any saints or priests that came from Ireland that had any problem with the drinking of alcohol.

id celebrate Lodbroks day if he had one though... |
St Patricks day is all about getting drunk / having fun getting drunk
nothing more .. whats wrong with that ? |
The idea that drinking and Christianity don't go together is a mostly Puritan viewpoint.
Ask any Belgian monk. :2 cents: Some of them fast on nothing but beer for an entire month. |

America corporations have marketed it to wage slaves as a day to get plastered, nothing more... |

The Irish celebratedthe day he came to ireland and his death, ... im not going to get into holiday facts here... but it was more about the life and death of the man, not what we have here in the US. The "Holy Day' as we know it today has little or nothing to do with anything 1000 years ago... There are Saint Patricks day Parades going on here in new Orleans... ;) |
i like to think if there were saints and a god did exist they or he wouldn't care what we did or where we did it as long as we didn't hurt anyone or anything else
but I don't believe in any of that shit so it is just a great day to drink green beer |
It's a day to celebrate St. Patrick, yes... but I think it's the Irish themselves who have turned it into a drunkfest.
What does the day mean to me personally? Well... as kids we used to make shamrocks (basically 4-leaf clovers called shamrocks) out of clay, let them dry, paint them green, and give them to our mothers. In class we talked of all things "Irish"... leprechauns, leaning over the edge of a cliff and kissing something called "The Blarney stone", pots of gold at the end of rainbows, etc. And we wore green. As I grew older (old enough to drink) it became clear that those celebrating this day used it mainly as an excuse to get shit-faced. Beer vendors sold special green beers, pubs full (moreso than usual) of drunk horny women, drunk horny guys, some wearing large buttons that say such eloquent phrases as "Kiss me I'm Irish".... and we wore green. These days I celebrate the Irish part of my own heritage. If anyone doesn't like it (like St. Patrick for example) they can kiss me looky charms. |
I still want LODBROK DAY!!!

no one celebrates today because they agree with how Saint Patrick lived and died? Most have no idea about him being Pagan... |

Actually, religious men have enjoyed alcohol for quite some time :)
"With the collapse of the Roman Empire and decline of urban life, religious institutions, particularly monasteries, became the repositories of the brewing and winemaking techniques that had been earlier developed (Babor, 1986, p. 11). While rustic beers continued to be produced in homes, the art of brewing essentially became the province of monks, who carefully guarded their knowledge (Cherrington, 1925, v. 1, p. 405). Monks brewed virtually all beer of good quality until the twelfth century. Around the thirteenth century, hops (which both flavors and preserves) became a common ingredient in some beers, especially in northern Europe (Wilson, 1991, p. 375). 5 Ale, often a thick and nutritious soupy beverage, soured quickly and was made for local consumption (Austin, 1985, p. 54, pp. 87-88)." |

Beer can, and does, occur naturally. Granted, there is a process involved... some stalk of wheat falls down, and hits a puddle of water... which it sits in for the next day or two as the wild yeast settles on to start consuming the sugars as the surrounding foliage contribute to the bittering of the fermented liquid... It's an entirely natural process... even if man's intervention does help yield a much better product. |

When the fruit is overripe, it falls to the ground. In the summerheat, and in conjunction with the thick skin of the mangos, and their high sugar content, they ferment very quickly. The result? The local parrots get totally, 100% pissed from mango daiquiris. It's not an odd thing in the summer to see birds fast asleep on the ground, or rolling around squarking very drunkenly. |

they have lots of stuff going on besides the drinking too though . . but alcohol is a major factor .. |

And it's the same with Easter, same with Christmas, same with President's day, etc etc etc. Beside which: You can't give people a holiday and expect them to be sombre, just as you can't stop people from finding marketting niches. Don't get mad at the world. Celebrate the holidays as you interpret them. |

That's great! I'll have to make a point of scheduling my eventual trip down there for the tail-end of mango season. :) |
Its good for the economy. Women buy green craft crap and green apparel, guys get plastered and buy porn.
It can be a nice stream of revenue peaking once a year. So much money is made, who cares what people think about the holiday meaning and crap, as long as they spend their dollars. :1orglaugh |
one more thing, since wiccan has been brought up....and I say this coming from a place where I have been around wiccans and alternative cultures since I was 19 or so
why are majority of the wiccan women (and usually men) fat, nerdy and ugly? can't they get some hotties in there? haha |
