Why are people afraid of death?

Why are people afraid of death, or why is it sad when someone dies?

I don't understand, since no one has "died" and come back to life, no one is to say which is better, alive or "Dead".

So when people are sad when someones dies, why is that, because they're selfish? Or perhaps it's because they feel "bad" for the person?

Who's to say the "afterlife" isn't better then the existence we know of?

Answer me that!

EuroRev_Stacey 02-18-2008 04:58 AM

For me because it is so hard to think that you will no longer be together with all the people you love... :(

who 02-18-2008 04:58 AM

Because death is the end, you moron.

biskoppen 02-18-2008 04:59 AM

People are sad because of the loss of the person in this world.. has nothing to do with which the afterlife is good or not

Sounds like you are selfish.

You want something to be together with you to make you feel good.

People fear what they do not know. You yourself said it, no one has ever come back from the dead to explain it to us, so we just do not know, and we probably never will. People do not like the thought that it is just over, and we have no proof otherwise, thus many fear death.

Yup, you're right. Death is a breeze and you shouldn't be afraid of it. Allah/Jebus/etc will be at your side and you will have virgins to fuck and clouds to ride on. Go kill yourself please. Thx.

Except for the fact that your body decays and you turn into dust. Other than that, you are probably just as you were when you were alive.

I say . . . prove that just because you no longer exist - that you no longer exist. You can't, so I can say that you live forever - FOREVER MOTHERFUCKER!

evildick 02-18-2008 08:31 AM

If you're so unselfish and unafraid of death you might as well kill yourself now.

It's got to be a better experience than trolling message boards to sell your sig.

Fap 02-18-2008 08:38 AM

Its the fact you dont know what happens. But if you look at it logically.. its the end

nico-t 02-18-2008 08:39 AM

answer this: where are we before birth? isnt it weird that you are just here one day without any recollection of where your mind etc was before you were born?

I think it's quite natural to be afraid of death...

L-Pink 02-18-2008 08:41 AM

I'm not afraid of you dying, in fact I like the idea.

Your mind didn't exist before you were born. What you perceive as your personality is intrinsically part of the physical matter of your brain and the way that the neurons connect. "You" aren't just some metaphysical force riding in your body like the driver of an automobile who can park it and leave anytime and still be intact.

Violetta 02-18-2008 09:03 AM

because it is so lovely to live

people fear Death because 99% of human beings fear the unknown and there's no bigger unknown than Death. thinking of yourself and your family and friends as rotting corpses under the ground whether you believe in an afterlife or nothing at all still is unsettling at the very least.

the sadness comes from saying goodbye to your loved ones and face it - you are saying goodbye to yourself - we spend our lives talking to ourselves, we are our own best friends. i see lots of tears at airports when somebody is going away on a long trip or moving away. well death is the last trip and most people believe it's the end - no afterlife, no happy reunions up in heaven with your family and friends.

There's no such thing as afterlife. That's why.

Was it a masturbation, hanging thing that went wrong?

AssPirate 02-18-2008 09:30 AM

People are afraid of death because when they die, they loose everything they got here on earth. People cry when someone dies because they won't see the him/her one anymore.

You missed the word "you" in the original quote. Read it again, it was a shot at Jet.

Do you know how to read English? Neither of us said we were eager to die.

jakethedog 02-18-2008 10:43 AM

not personally afraid of death it self .. if I was to go in a peaceful way like my grandfather passing away behind the wheel of his car ..not like the 3 people in the back screaming in fear for their lives ... but truthfully I would be more afraid for my family and children .. their sadness and loss scares me much more ..

Afterlife is a completely irrational concept, naturally invented by beings which are self-aware. It's logical to wonder about death, but completely nonsensical to consider it to be anything but the end.

czarina 02-18-2008 11:04 AM

we are afraid of the unknown, and it makes us sad because we wont see our beloved ones anymore after either they or us die
