That is wild. How do they get the technology to see that far?

If they can see a planet 20 light years away then they can definitely see us pick our nose from space.

They don't VISUALLY see it, but use gravitational wobbles to detect the planet and determine planet habitability by inferring from the qualities of the system's star.

I believe it. There's just NO WAY MATHEMATICALLY that we're the only planet with life in the universe. Given the huuuuuuuuuuge numbers involved, there's a multitude of planets with life out there. The only barriers are space and time.

What he said.

Fact of the matter is that it could just as easily be a Venus or a Mars or a God-knows-what.

You guys didn't read the whole article.

...Scientists, after running a cross-photon emitted DNA spectrolysis, a tool that uses laser light photons emitted by living DNA, thought only to come from our own planet, have detected Photon DNA frequencies and have also come to the conclusion that there exists a second Juicy D. links On this mirror planetary body. The scientists have conceded that there is no real way of telling if the second juicy is as much of a playa as the original. Upon contact, Mr. Links had no comment...

Too bad they found it. Now they'll want to colonize it and we can have two destroyed planets when one was more than enough.

Same thing I thought. This 'groundbreaking' new finding is coming from the same people that can't quite figure global warming out on this planet.

Tell them to get back to me when that gets worked out. K? Thnx.

That Alcubierre Drive is FASCINATING. Interesting criticisms though.

oh i get it now you mean....

where α is the lapse function that gives the interval of proper time between nearby hypersurfaces, βi is the shift vector that relates the spatial coordinate systems on different hypersurfaces and γij is a positive definite metric on each of the hypersurfaces. The particular form that Alcubierre studied (1994) is defined by:

βy = βz = 0
γij = δij
where

and

with R > 0 and σ > 0 arbitrary parameters. With this particular form of the metric, it can be shown that the energy density measured by observers whose 4-velocity is normal to the hypersurfaces is given by
