Strangest pizza flavor you have seen or had?

What is the strangest pizza flavor you have seen or had? Papa John's over here (which is still fairly new in the UK) is doing a range of curry pizzas at the moment. Over the weekend I had a slice of the Korma flavored version and it was actually nice even though it was strange.

So, what is the strangest pizza flavor you have seen?

...im pretty ashamed to say ive tasted something that could hardly be called a pizza.
I was in the phillipines, and at a local restaurant they had pizzas that had spaghetti over it, and all sorts of sweet things too, not to mention pineapple as well...
it was just a mixture of stuff that didnt get along on top of a pizza base.

...it was disgusting

georgeyw 09-24-2007 03:36 AM

Definitely have to be chocolate pizza. Was actually quite good - but very very rich....

Yes i mean a pizza base with a thick melted chocolate topping

marky9378 09-24-2007 03:37 AM

Turf 09-24-2007 03:39 AM

Was it bad because of the bread base mixing with those flavors of the topping tasted bad together too....I am hoping there wasn't a tomato base with that.

not bad, but something i never had and it rocked, philly cheese steak from papa johns

kowalsky 09-24-2007 05:23 AM

I must say most of the pizza flavors that I am reading here were pizza just because the shape of the food!

my brother worked in a pizza shop, and made an asian topped pizza called the tsunami. When i noticed it, the tsunami had devastated the south pacific and thought it was bad taste, but he said his tsunami came first. It had assorted asian vege's, and chicken.

When I was in high school I worked at a pizza joint. We were always experimenting so I'm trying to remember all the crazy things we did. One of the guys I used to work with used to always make ground beef and pineapple. I tried it once, it was strange but not as bad as you might think.

eroswebmaster 09-24-2007 08:10 AM

when I moved to LA back in 87, I worked in a gourmet pizza place in Beverly Hills for about 3 weeks called Patty's Presto.

Best damned pizza I have ever eaten...EVER.

The Pizza was take and bake. We had all kinds of weird pizzas..but one of the weirdest was a desert pizza with chocolate chips, and coconut and I can't recall what else...but that would be the weirdest pizza I have ever eaten

Macaroni and Cheese Pizza

:throwup

Sarah_Jayne 09-24-2007 08:27 AM

I had something in Belgium once that had egg on it and it should have been horrid but it was really good.

One place back in college was open in the morning so they came up with the Breakfast Pizza -- baked potato and bacon. Obviously the baked potato would be cut up into little squares.. weird at first but very good and a wholesome breakfast before classes (or skipping of classes).

Luscious Media 09-24-2007 08:46 AM

Yep...breakfast pizza...my family was in the pizza biz for years. We would head into the kitchen after closing (it was a bar too) and do some after hours partying. By 4-5am we were hungry, drunk, stoned and willing to try anything. The best one I remember was bacon and eggs with hash browns. We tried it again a few days later...sober...I'll just say that food always tastes better when you're drunk, stoned and hungry.

CherryLipsRosa 09-24-2007 09:05 AM

Azlord 09-24-2007 10:11 AM

Eggplant Parmesian... it was really good too.

Spunky 09-24-2007 10:14 AM

That Mac and cheese pizza looks pretty tasty

gideongallery 09-24-2007 10:22 AM

mango and chicken

OMG Jim 09-24-2007 10:44 AM

Being in the brick oven pizza business for a couple of years I had a chance to try out quite a few interesting combinations.

We specialized in gourmet toppings like Grilled Eggplant, Carmalized Onions, Roasted Red Peppers, Sauteed Mushrooms and Fresh Spinich. We tried to stick to mostly authentic Italian recipes.

The one pizza that was probably the strangest but one of the best tasting was what we called the Gamberi that was made with a traditional tossed dough, then spread with fresh made pesto sauce instead of marinara. It was then top with medium sized shrimp, peeled and de-veined, and sprinkled with a good helping of whole milk mozzarella... DELICIOUS!!!

That actually sounds like it might be rather nice.

fatfoo 09-24-2007 10:55 AM

Yea, i'd go with chocolate pizza

CynthiaB 09-24-2007 11:25 AM

Mac and CHeese pizza! Wow, that's overkill. Breakfast pizza sounds like a good idea. The only thing odd I've had was a pesto pizza and it was awful

geedub 09-24-2007 11:27 AM

there is a grocery store here that has a deli that sells all kinds of pizza.. ive only seen this the one time i got it, was a baked potato pizza.. pretty much like the works of a decked out baked potato on a pizza crust, pretty damn good.

slickshane 09-24-2007 11:39 AM

mine would have been a brekfest pizza , with eggs & bacon

Sarah_Jayne 09-24-2007 11:52 AM

I have never had a breakfast pizza..do they tend to have the tomato base?

TG Rebecca 09-24-2007 12:00 PM

i don't think i've ever tried anything really weird. the only kind of pizza that i've had that sticks out in my mind as "different" is hawaiian, with pineapple on it. but that's rather common. :)

Gina Cochina 09-24-2007 12:09 PM

Apparently in Japan they do a lot of really weird things, pizza-wise. They have toppings like squid and corn. Seafood is a pretty common pizza topping there. I've never been there, but I read about it in a book I have then I asked a friend who lived there and he said it's true.

My favorite kind of pizza is pepperoni with double chorizo and extra sauce, which sounds weird at first, but it turns out chorizo on pizza is addictive. It's really good.

Peaches 09-24-2007 12:26 PM

I've had the fruit "Pizza" where it's a cookie based dough with sweeten sour cream cheese and fruits, but as far as a real pizza...well, I had one the other day from Trader Joe's (seriously, just grab a flight here, we'll spend a week buying/eating, then you can go back to the land of the foreigners and no good steaks ;) ) with feta cheese and Kalamata olives. It was WONDERFUL.

sweetcuties 09-24-2007 12:28 PM

Call me old fashioned but you can't pay me to try anything else other than sausage or peperonni :2 cents:

Some of the best pizzas I've had lately have been nothing but cheese. Different kinds of cheese, but nothing else (well, sauce :winkwink:).

I was reading about this place: http://www.azcentral.com/ent/dining/...izza14-CP.html

And now want to use Phoenix as one of my "need to get just a few more FF points" trips :)

2012 09-24-2007 12:40 PM

churrizo nuggets and and egg ( sunnyside up in the middle ) ...wtf when I ordered pepperoni

GrouchyAdmin 09-24-2007 12:43 PM

Not the strangest I've seen, but so far the strangest I've tried:

Ham, cheese, onion, and mashed potatoes. Yes, they cooked pizza with mashed potato flakes (instant) on it. Other than making it even starchier, it was rather good.

silvercash amber 09-24-2007 12:44 PM

carne asada! it was so good

Lifer 09-24-2007 12:49 PM

There was a pizza place in Red Oak Texas, just south of Dallas, that served Bacon Lettace and Tomato pizza. It was made like a BLT with warm crust, cool mayo and crispy lettace

It was one of the best pizzas I ever ate.
