What do you think happens when you die?

Ive been thinking about this for a long while now... Some say your brain still functions for some time after your heart stops. Do you think one is concious when this happens? Are thoughts still proccessing?

Do you believe in after life? What happens to the years of thoughts one has when the brain stops functioning?

Some thoughts Ive been having... What do you think?

CyberHustler 09-20-2007 07:16 PM

Your energy just returns to the essence... some might get recycled.

Bird 09-20-2007 07:16 PM

Spiritually or Physically

BoyAlley 09-20-2007 07:16 PM

I just hope I'm not reincarnated as a twinkie that is in a grocery store near you...

Mentally....

Our thoughts are just quick flashes of energy between neurons and shit... We might think our brains are the ultimat harddrives... but once the heart stops and our bodys stop functioning is that it?

tony286 09-20-2007 07:17 PM

I was watching a show and it said hearing is the last thing to go when you die.

GhengisBong 09-20-2007 07:18 PM

religion was a mechanism to govern man.

On the national geographic channel? I saw the same one... How freaky is that...

DO we know we had a heart attack and our body is shutting down? Does our vision go but yet we still hear?

Didnt the show say our brain still functions for 10 minutes after our heart stops?

Spunky 09-20-2007 07:18 PM

Probably functions for a few seconds or so after the heart stops

I tend to agree with that statement... Although I do believe there is something higher out there...

Your family gets charged an horrendous amount to dispose of your body, any money you leave to your family gets taxed, and then you become dirt which charges a property tax fee.

spacedog 09-20-2007 07:20 PM

Sort of like the dot of an old television set...

You know what I'm talking about... old tv sets, when you shut them off, there was a small little circle in the center, just glowed a little bit, but then it got smaller & smaller.. & you can hear the minute twinges of electrical current buzzing at your ears silently as the circle became yet smaller til it fizzled with a pop of blackness that vanished into nothingness, as if it had never existed at all.............................

OzMan 09-20-2007 07:27 PM

When you die you leave your body permanently, not temporarily as in sleep, fainting or coma.

k next question?

ProducerCashDave 09-20-2007 07:31 PM

I remember one time when I passed out it happen out of nowhere I dropped, my vision went black, but I could hear people talking, then boom I wake up moments later on the ground having no idea wtf just happen

That's what I've always wondered. It's easy to accept that when you squish a spider, it's gone poof, that's it. Sure humans are smarter, we can drive cars and look at porn, but why is it so hard for people to think that we might die, be dead, gone, end of story? :pimp

GrouchyAdmin 09-20-2007 07:35 PM

An afterlife is one of the tools we use to delude ourselves into either being better people, and if we're not, at least try to end up with the most trinkets.

wyldworx 09-20-2007 07:39 PM

einstein spoke of relativity - If our essence is positively charged, then light and glee - much similar to the feeling music or dancing gives - simple senses are left behind, so just bliss and complete contentment with no need to know or do. Connection i guess, to your own light. No faces, No sound, just feel. Negatively charged cannot connect to the light, so darkness and torment awaits - fear terror and abandonment all those sorts of feelings, only eternally crying out, but its too late.

Bird 09-20-2007 07:42 PM

We become light, pure energy and it is absorbed by everything everywhere.

I'm gonna change my answer to this. It sounds much better than "rotting in a hole in the ground."

Madame0120 09-20-2007 07:48 PM

Faith tells me I will be taken up to meet my Maker and join those I loved on Earth. My Mother, who was in a renal coma, spoke shortly before she passed. Her face was joyfull and she smiled saying, Oh Carey, it's beautiful. Please open the gates.

My Uncle Carey was our last Family member to die, before my Mom. She never knew he had passed on, and I belive he was there to greet her and ease her journey, Home.

Faith, you really can't beat it.

dav3 09-20-2007 07:54 PM

We get recycled, just like everything else that exists in nature. Analyze the patterns. Energy is no different.

Mr Steele 09-20-2007 07:57 PM

Heavy topic, I have a couple of theories about it myself, but for now I kinda feel comfortable about it all from things i've read and experienced, but who really knows...

if you google "DMT death" "DMT buddhists" "DMT afterlife" , there's a lot of good research on some interesting shit that may answer some things for you

Makaveli 09-20-2007 08:01 PM

One would think it would be alot like before we were born. Well that's what I think. No darkness none of that. Just aren't there.

MandyBlake 09-20-2007 08:05 PM

i think nothing happens when i die. hopefully some people will miss me. :)

Huh?

You talking about tripping on Tryptomines?

CurrentlySober 09-20-2007 08:09 PM

I could answer you, cause I died once, for nearly 3 mins, but was brought back to life by medical proffesionals... However my answers very long, and its really late here in the UK... If this threads still going tommorow, I'll post a detailed reply, along with my theorys etc... but im too tired now, and im off to bed...

Watch this

Ever see Waking Life...pretty trippy movie with some long, interesting conversations.

Here's a clip from the movie with a good theory about death. For an atheist, this idea could be something to have faith in.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=Km5YGCRb0WM

SilentKnight 09-20-2007 08:18 PM

Despite my atheism, I still hold a (tiny) glimmer of hope that there's something more in the afterlife - but I don't think its anything like the various religions of the world claim it to be.

We might float around the universe as disembodied electrons, unaware of own existence...until something happens where we get reassembled back in to a physical body of some sort.

But I tend to think its more of a scientific process that occurs naturally rather than something of a grand design by a higher power.

Then again, my theory inevitably changes after the tenth cold beer.

So stay tuned...

Great movie indeed!

I have the strong feeling that nothing happens after you die... I believe it's fair.

It's at about the one minute mark, BTW.

spacedog 09-20-2007 08:29 PM

Not to get off topic, but this is something I've been wondering about for years..

Suppose that, what if the thoughts, memories, & everything else of the human mind that makes a person whom they are can somehow, someday be uploaded into the brain of ones own clone of their younger self. :boggle

Basically what he said. Though to answer exactly what you asked , I'm confident you dream and that's what goes on until the energy (years of thought) dissipates. Then worms eat your face. Hope that sums it up for you :thumbsup

Calico Jack 09-20-2007 09:20 PM

I would like to think (though I'm not sure) that there's somewhere else we move onto. There's a few people I'd like to see again.
