Post the question on the Rennlist 993 board. There are a couple of actual Porsche mechanics that hang out there.

If it was the tranny you'd expect to feel/hear the problem not just notice a loss of power. I'm betting engine damage.
|
Did it immediately lose power and die? Depending on the symptom at that exact moment, the timing chain could have skipped a tooth or broke all together. If this occurred, depending on the valve to piston clearance, you may have some serious engine damage.

i so wanted to just keep this car forever
|
It's really impossible to know for sure, but likely it's not the transmission.
What you've done is caused the engine to severly over rev, as if you put in the clutch and just stood on the gas. Did you stuff in the clutch as soon as you realized what happened? The type of damage can vary, but it's not looking like Monday will be a great day for you. |

Possible shot tranny but more likely engine damage. If you would lose a gear you would deff. be able to feel that.
When you hit that low gear, revs surely went past what the engine can take. Worst case, bottom end damage (crank, or piston/cylinder) best case, piston hit valve and bent it. What ever the case, it will be costly. Let us know how it turns out. |

absolutly and went into neutral than once it settled down i went back into gear as i was slowing down to pull over BUT CAR DID DRIVE just with a ton less power like it became a pinto |
i promise to post when i get the report

Is it a TT? Could just be an intercooler hose popped... I had that happen a lot on my Supra. That is some pretty wishful thinking though.
|
if he over-revved im sure its a fucked up bearing

I'm surprised no one gave you a hard time about this, but how the fuck do you accidentally put it in 2nd, come on dude, wtf? You must have been drunk or high off your ass, or maybe you just suck at driving stick...
|
You ran too much RPM, you may have damaged one or more of the valves! Not for sure if that year came with rev limited but slamming the car at speed into 2nd gear could do it.:2 cents:
A bent valve could cause compression loss, and that would be consistant with your power loss. Good luck! I hope you get it fixed! |

valves....snapped from the back pressure.

I would totaly disregard anything said in this thread. There are too many variables to diagnose the problem. I did pretty much the same thing once in a 1969 Mustang, and everyone swore I blew the engine. All that happened is the rotor inside of the distrubutor broke. For $8 I was running again. Being that your car is a 95 it probably doesnt even have a distributor, I've never worked on a Porsche so I wouldnt know. Which is why you dont see me posting a diagnosis here. It could be alot of different things gone wrong.
Keep your fingers crossed and wait for the mechanic to call you. |
you threw the timing off
real cheap to fix no biggie |
The 993 has a non interference motor. It is very difficult to bend a valve.
Can you give some more details? What was the actual sound? was it a metal clang? what do you mean by pop? did you hear any metal clanking sounds after? Where you able to shift into other gears? When you were turning over the engine after it stopped can you describe the sound? did it sound like the normal cranking that it always does? I used to work as a German repair specialist and might be able to help |
The first thing you need to do is a "compression test" on all the cylinders.
|
First thought that comes into my head when the Porsche blows up is - contact GFY :pimp
