2002 Millenium Yellow Corvette Z06

Sosa 04-17-2007 10:59 AM

The M3 is a high miler, 80k kilometres (that's 50k miles) and I can probably get it for CDN$33,000 - $34k + 8% sales tax.. so that's $35640 - $36720.

The Z06 has only 14k miles (it's a US car.. that's 22,400 Kms) and the price is US$30k. I can get an exchange rate of about 0.86 on the dollar, and it costs 6% GST + $200 to import into canada. Its located in Philly, so add $100 woth of gas for a grand total of about $37,300.

shoeaholicanon 04-17-2007 11:14 AM

I'd say the M3 cause i dont like vets.

ztik 04-17-2007 11:18 AM

M3 for sure

A Corvette Z06 isn't your every day run of the mill Chevy, and infact if anything does go wrong they are incredibly cheap to fix an maintain because of widely available parts, etc.

BMWs are notoriously unreliable and parts / labour on them is expensive. Im much more nervous about a 6 year old BMW than I am about the Z06 tbh.

Dollarmansteve 04-17-2007 11:21 AM

6 votes M3 vs 1 ambivalent vote. Hmm.. where are all the Vette lovers!!

jeffrey 04-17-2007 11:26 AM

What do you want the car for?
The vette will dominate the M3 in all performance aspects. But the M3 will ride nicer and have a nicer interier, and seat more then 2.

jeffrey 04-17-2007 11:28 AM

I would take the Vette hands down, and getting them from the states makes them cheap even with very low milage.
Dont foget to give the boarder 72 hours notice of you crossing otherwise your going to sit in their parking lot for 72 hours. There is also a 100 dollar AC fee, and I think 80 dollar RIV fee.
I brought a pair of Camaro's up a couple years ago.

GO for the Vette:thumbsup :thumbsup

Save your money. Buy the 2007 Nissan Altima SE for around 32k. Great car..

Hazlewood 04-17-2007 11:31 AM

Go with the vette!!!

Ya the total import fee is $202 and the market for vettes in the US is alot more broad than in canada, I will save $5k or more by importing.

To be honest - Im in the market for a Z06. The M3 being in the same price range means I have to do due dilligence and at least consider it. I have no need for a back seat really, practicality is about 50th on my list of considerations.

I can fit a hockey bag in the Z06 truck and it has a pass through for hockey sticks - that's all that really matters to me :1orglaugh

LilBro 04-17-2007 11:36 AM

id be careful buying either of these used since you know that owners of such cars drive them hard (Usually)

do you get any warranties with either???

Chances of a japanese car being in my driveway: 0%

I already drive a 2006 pontiac G6 GTP.. so.. an altima would be a downgrade.

Dwreck 04-17-2007 11:39 AM

Vette=small penis

Tires are a good indication of this - the vette is rolling on the original rubber.. and there's still quite a bit left. The part that is most susceptible to damage under hard driving is the transmission - the reality is when buying a used car in a private sale, you take risks (and hence the hefty discount).

That being said, I would rather buy a $2k corvette tranny than a $$$$?? tranny for the M3

That hurt man, ouch. Really. You know I lost my penis in a tragic fleshlight incident in late '05.

Go for the vette, otherwise you will regret not getting it.
I bought a second choice once thinking I would be happy, 3 weeks later I sold it and bought what I wanted in the first place.

If you didnt need the hockey bag to fit I would say to look at the Lotus Elise, I have feel in love with them, but I have a second vehicle when I need to carry more then a 1l carton of milk in it, lol.

PS, when I was looking at a vette I took my hockey bag and sticks to the dealer to make sure they fit, and they did :)

M3 is for rich wives, are you a rich wife? if so get the M3.

It's not like a real man would actually drive around in a BMW.

The vette's LS6 engine and the T56 tranny can take a BEATING and come back for more. I would worry more about the rear end, but they are all of 1000 bucks to get rebuilt.
An M3 tranny job is like 7k.

And only the guys with small dicks think the vette is a penis extention :thumbsup

get a ........................M5!

BV 04-17-2007 11:49 AM

I had an '03 ZO6 (50th Anniversary Edition)
But it was not my primary ride.
Depends on what you want, the Vette is fun as hell to drive but the Beamer is going to be much more comfortable if this is your only ride (daily driver)
To me the Vette is not a daily driver, especially the ZO6!

Screaming 04-17-2007 11:50 AM

m3 defently...

Domains_Broker 04-17-2007 11:55 AM

Both are awesome cars, I have driven both. The Z06 is a monster, the BMW is about as refined a vehicle as you will find. But... as someone mentioned above, maintenance on a bmw can be a money pit.

Tough decision. I say M3 though

Nice - someone who's actually owned one. This would be my only car, but I wouldn't drive it every day. I live about 2 minutes from a train station and there is a station 5 minutes from the office. It's a 35 min train ride, my daily commute now is 30 - 45 minutes every day.

So, this would be a car that I put maybe 10 - 12000 miles per year in the good weather months, I will be buying an SUV/truck in november/december for my winter car and the vette will go into hibernation for 3-4 months.

Dollarmansteve 04-17-2007 12:03 PM

9 M3
5 Z06
1 Nissan Altima (hahahahahahahahaha)
1 M5
1 Toss-up

Ok - now take into consideration that 'ride comfort' and a back seat mean nothing to me. This is about owning a car that I can be proud of and play with.. modify, etc.. Also the outward image I am projecting also means absolutely nothing, and I would argue that both cars have equally as many positive and negative connotations.

bdld 04-17-2007 12:04 PM

the M3, it's a more comfortable ride.

Then by all means get the Vette, I owned mine for 2 years and every time I took it out of the garage it gave me one hell of a rush!
