All these prescription drugs kids are being prescribed are the source.

news never blames the medication though, just the depression... might i ask, any of these kids on meds?

no offense but I NEVER feel sorry for suicides.

ive been saying it for years.

if cigarettes didnt cause cancer, they wouldnt have a warning about it on the packs.

if depression medication didnt cause suicides, they wouldnt have a warning about it.

http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/12/13/news/suicide.php

Quote:

U.S. public health officials, psychiatrists, grieving parents, outraged former patients and others are addressing the most bitterly divisive question in psychiatry: Do the drugs that doctors prescribe to relieve depression make some people more likely to commit suicide?

The Food and Drug Administration decided to convene a government panel for the first time since 2004 to consider the question Wednesday.

Impassioned testimony two years ago led the agency to require antidepressant drugs to carry strong warnings that they could increase suicidal thinking or behavior in some children and adolescents. Now the agency is considering whether to require similar warnings for adult patients.
medication is directly linked to some suicides, but people usually just say the kid would have done it anyway, but as many believe, its the medication that actually pushes them to go that far.

Wow....that's crazy shit!

except when it is Anna Nicole Smith.

found with 9+ different prescribed drugs in her, had PREVIOUS SUICIDE ATTEMPTS, history of depression and injected herself with more drugs than a junky - they just rewrite it as an "accidental overdose" and it stays in the news for 4 weeks...

Anna commited suicide, i wish everyone would admit it.

Wizzo 03-27-2007 08:04 AM

Damn Dude, sorry to hear... be sure to take the time to talk to you son about how stupid it is and that he shouldn't follow...

The media avoids suicide reports because they put thoughts into people's heads. Over 30,000 people do it each year. It's one of the leading causes of death.

Some say it's the easy way out, but I disagree. If someone is driven to suicide, then at least mentally they lived the hardest lives possible.

For all I know it was the PARENTS FAULT.

Im not going to get wrapped up in this, I stated my opinion and that is all. Feeling sorry for suicide cases is like feeling sorry for people who get speeding tickets. Had nothing to do with me, and was totally caused by the person at the wheel.

nice Lord of the Rings quote btw.

not saying this to offend anyone---and only good parents get this---your children once you have become the most important thing in life--more important than yourself---if u live by that rule u can always look in the mirror and know u done right---if u selfish u will end up hating yourself and pusing kids away

So let me ask you this....

Where is your son while you are posting on an adult message board?

If you are going to tell people that they would understand better had it been their son's friend then I feel compelled to tell you to get the fuck off the computer and be with your child. Spend some time with him or do something for the community that will make a difference.

People are judging Fletch and others for posting their opinions because they are harsh. Welcome to reality. As an adult one would think that you would be used to it by now.

As for the thinning of the herds comment.....I've bee saying that for years. People commit suicide because they have failed in life. Many of those failures could have been prevented with better support systems. Anybody want to be that all 3 of those kids were enrolled in public schools?

I could go on and on about this but I'll save some of my opinions for responses since this post is obviously going to piss Howard and a few others off and make them cry.

Tanya_AWP 03-27-2007 09:25 AM

That's sad...Worries me a lot:(

Arron (my frind from phuket?)..dude...you have no idea about my realtionship with my son..been divorced since 98 out of house since 96--still see my kid every day and talk to him several times a day.--lived 6 blocks from him--never lived futher than 3 miles--i am closer with my son Id say than most fathers not divorced.

shekinah 03-27-2007 09:31 AM

That's pity.. some students feel that the best counseling that they would get is to kill themselves.

It's Aaron, and yes about Phuket.

It's nice that you have a good relationship with your son but again...How does posting about it here make a difference?

Sounds to me like your community could use the kind of support you have given your son. Clearly you care about the community or you would not be bothered by this....So why not see what you can do to help ensure it doesn't happen a 4th time.

I always wanted to write a book on how to be a good divorced father. my x wife told me all men suck--fathers suck--she seen hers 2 times since she was 10---because of that when i got divorced my kids were 2 and 5 and i made it my mission in life.

Now 11 years later my daughter who is 13 and son who is 16 are simply great kids. Every person who meets my kids cant believe what agreat kids they are. And I love to have agreat time but my kids always came first..

I have made so many mistakes in life but I have done 1 thing really well and that is being a dad after being divorced.

Yesterday i purschaed divorceddads.com and am setting up a forum for where men can sommunicate with each other about isuues with kids..I hope to have it up within 1 month...

kristin 03-27-2007 09:55 AM

When I was in high school we had two suicides in two days ... one of the worst experiences of my life. We were a very small school too, my graduating class was the size of 87.

kristin 03-27-2007 09:57 AM
