Homeless people question ?

So i just get finished eating out at a restaurant and as im leaving the restaurant, theres some homeless people sitting outside.. I had a runny nose and no hankerchief, so i pulled a $20 bill out and blew my nose on it , then dropped it on the ground.. Now im not so rich i can just go around throwing away money but i saw the homeless people there , i needed to blow my nose it served 2 purposes..

So anyways one of the girls that was with me started chiding me about blowing my nose on the money before throwing it down. like i was insulting them or something, meanwhile she hadnt thrown down any money , snot or not..

Keep in mind i didnt say anything or draw attention to the homeless people, although i did kind of toss it inthat direction because i figured , hey its christmas..

Obviously a homeless person would rather get a snotty $20 than no $20 at all is my opinion.. they prob feel "insulted" all day long

Anyways , was i "mean" and insulting or doing a good thing ?

spazlabz 12-29-2006 11:06 AM

BastarD 12-29-2006 11:09 AM

its your money and you can do what do you want with it...

but question is, why would you do this sort of things...:disgust

Dagwolf 12-29-2006 11:11 AM

That's just gross. Not that I'm believing it.

chartgraves 12-29-2006 11:11 AM

Yeah that was completely degrading to them man - They are already at a low point being homeless and dirty and smelly - Their moral is low and dont need some guy doing that to degrade them further. If you want to be a standup guy dont even give them money - Offer to buy them food

ztik 12-29-2006 11:11 AM

Respect is a valuable asset
Try using it sometime and you'll see how it can go a long way. In all aspects of life..

Yup, or even get them a room at a shitty hotel for the night.
For all you know they have a substance abuse problem and will just use the money to buy more shit. The longer they are off it the better they may become. You may have just bought some guy a 20 rock of crack.

This thead kind of seams like bait though..

polish_aristocrat 12-29-2006 11:13 AM

this is a joke right?

edit: looks more like a DarkJedi than SmokeyTheBear thread...

At first i thought it was funny ... but now it's-snot.

Aneros Josh 12-29-2006 11:14 AM

not to jack your thread but it reminds me of a one time when this guy came and looked at my Dad's car for sale and liked it and left him a deposit of $50 to hold the car for him. This was a non-refundable deposit as my Dad told everyone the car was sold and if the guy backed out of the deal, the $50 would cover the ad cost to run a new ad. The guy called like 2 days later and said his wife wouldn't let him buy the car and demanded his $50 back. My Dad was pissed on principle because he had made it very clear to the guy that the deposit was non-refundable but the guy said his wife was making him get the money back. Before the guy came to get the money, my Dad wiped dog shit all over it. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....if you ever wonder where I get my twisted sense of humor, now you know.

I feel deeply, deeply sorry for you. You must have grown up being taught all the time that two wrongs make a right.

:Oh crap

Pray that Jesus will forgive you.

needlive 12-29-2006 11:25 AM

I agree that you should have given them the money clean, then it wouldn't have been degrading to them...would you use the money if someone blew his/her nose in it? I don't think so

lol . no joke ..serious question..

I should have been a bit more clear though perhaps. a few people are getting the wrong idea.. This was all very discreet..

I was at a nice restaurant , wearing nice clothes with other well dressed people ( point being it would have been uncouth of me to "rockat snot - asian style or ruin my jacket by wiping it on my sleeve ) I merely reached into my pocket and pulled out a bill "discreetly" wiped my nose as if the bill were a hankerchief and then dropped the bill instead of putting it in my pocket ..

I DIDN'T toss it their direction or do it to show any "superiority". But i will be honest and admit i "did" notice them and intentionally dropped it closer to them hoping one would see it. I could have just tossed it in the garbage.

The girl who noticed me do this didnt say anything at the moment until we were away from other people , then she said much like some of the people in this thread.. but she hadnt given them anything..

Pete-KT 12-29-2006 11:27 AM

haha now thats funny, even the dog shit one

This is in vancouver , you cant just go giving money to every homeless person you see or you would go broke. Occasionally i will give people money if i think they are really homeless. But your kind of feeding an addiction at some level right ..I prefer to help people on a one on one basis , not random handing out of money.. too many con artists

HeadPimp 12-29-2006 11:28 AM

I don't give any money to any charities unless they are for animals or kids. Adults can (or should) fend for themselves. The poor in America are lazy and unwilling to take advantage of the opportunities that are available to them, regardless of their condition. Many people that I have talked with that work with the homeless will confirm this. If nothing else, it is the easy out and a great excuse for not trying.

As a counterpoint to it, look at the people in other countries that work all day long picking trash to sell as scrap, or making jewelry to sell on the street. In India some banks give micro loans to the poor to finance small startups. Try that here and you would have a massive failure rate. There, almost all of the loans are repaid.

I have virtually no pity for the people on the street. This is (or should be) the land of opportunity, not the land of handouts.

respect is earned , not established by being homeless. your confusing pity with respect.

I have alot of respect for alot of people. Someone i have never met doesnt instantly gain respect merely by the fact they are homeless..

Most of the homeless people in vancover are needle addicts. so what would you have done to show them respect ? Handed them money every homeless person you see ?

digifan 12-29-2006 11:36 AM

I am sure that one of the girls could haven given you a handkerchief....

SmokeyTheBear 12-29-2006 11:38 AM

p.s. for those who think the homeless people were "insulted" to be honest i dont think any of them saw me drop the bill , ( or they may have but just pretended not to incase it was an accident and they hoped to scoop the loot ) but i also wasn't paying close attention. like i said this was done discreetly.

If i had wiped my nose then handed it to them i could see the problem but thats not how it went down and i wouldnt do that..

I would like to hear from some other people how they might have handled the situation differently. ( besides just giving them money , thats equally as uncouth as far as im concerned and wouldnt have solved my snotty nose )

Actually isn't there some weird laws about the 'incorrect usage of money'?? Like, you could go to prison for doing that? I'm pretty sure some crackpot homeless man told me something like this....

spazlabz 12-29-2006 11:52 AM

your right, i misunderstood the whole disposal of your cash point.

blow your nose in a $20 if ya want and drop it on the street. it was just the implication of putting the homeless person with the money that had my panties in a bundle.

who cares if you blew snot in your own cash and just disposed of it. At that point if they see it and pick it up it may be unpleasant but so is having no money

CherryLipsRosa 12-29-2006 12:07 PM

Why don't you use the $20 buy them something and give it to them if you think giving them money might go to drugs or alcohol…
The way you described your actions is definitely not a nice gesture and if you really just wanted to blow your nose then why drop the bill? Respect is for everyone rich or poor fortunate or unfortunate. Even if you have no respect for the homeless and you can say they put themselves there and so on ... this does not give you the right to be disrespectful.

This is just my opinion and Happy holidays!!!

DeadFidel 12-29-2006 12:08 PM

It's either a lie or your as filthy or MORE. Have any idea what kind of germs are on paper money to put it up your nose? :error

starpimps 12-29-2006 12:29 PM

lol that was the best post i read all day.

anyways, i bet the homeless people wouldnt mind a snotty 20 dollar bill, im sure they did or touched something way grosser for money.
i gave a bum 100 bucks the other day before i went to eat and when i was walking to my car he was holding a twixxer of jd heh

I thought i had explained that , i didnt want a snotty bill in my pocket, i was dressed nice .. if i was dressed all shabby i would have picked up a snotty bill from someone who had done the same thing..
