SmokeyTheBear almost killed today.
 

We have been having a big storm here over the last couple days , without power most of the time. Today i walked around my property checking for damage along the fencelines when i hear a loud crack, my first instict however faulty is to look up, but strangely i didnt, something in the back of my head told me to dive. I was midway through sending the dive signal to my legs when i was struck my a falling limb (20-30 ft long by 3/4 of a foot thck ). Falling from about 55ft up a 100 ft tree
Right ontop of my noggin.. i heard a "snap" in my neck and was driven to the ground. I lay there thinking oh shit i broke my neck.. but to my suprise i hopped up right away and no problems.. INFACT it seems whatever cracked in my neck made it looser , feels like i have been to a chiropracter..

Anyways it really makes you appreciate life.. if the limb had fallen vertical instead of horizontal i would have been impaled by the tree branch.. or if i indeed had looked up, i would have broken every bone in my face.

better luck next time ;)

Damn. I need to work on the cut timing of those branches.

It may just be my poor memory, but I do recall hearing about people who've had neck and head injuries just keeling over unexpectedly. I enjoy your posts, and would hate to hear about anything bad happening...

Please go to the emergency room and get checked. That snap could mean a break somewhere. When you break your neck, it doesn't mean you automatically can't move or your head falls to the side or something hehe.

To make a long story short, my mom fell thru a floor and heard a snap in her neck...she didn't go to the doctor. Days later, her boss insisted she get checked....so she went to emergency. My moms neck WAS broken and they said that if she experienced a sudden jarring movement, then more than likely she would have been instantly paralysed from the neck down permanently. She spent the next 6 weeks in hospital in traction. Don't take the chance, get your neck checked...that is one area of the body you don't take chances with

I was just going to say this so let me reitorate.

Have that shit checked, Soft tissue damage is a bitch and you said yourself it felt looser, a common overlooked symptom.

For the sake of our sanity and growing knowledge from yours....get it looked at....

sheesh all you people are scaring me with your broken neck advice.. i'm snowed in so no doc for me for a few days , if you dont hear from me you know what happened lol. Now im gonna be scurrred when i move my neck im gonna get paralyzed.. Thats ok i already have an appointment with my doctor in a few days for the update on my brain tumour
