How Fat are Americans ???

Since I have been back in the States "March 25" I think it's safe to say that most Americans have about 20 pounds extra on them. Really the people in Europe are either Just smaller or they Eat Less ?????

What do you think ??

sickkittens 05-30-2006 06:34 AM

Might depend where you are in the US, too, no?

Raven 05-30-2006 06:34 AM

Americans, by and large, are fatter. The portion sizes for our meals is larger than what we get in Europe. The high fat, high sugar in our foods is greater.

We're a fat people and now we are creating fat kids.

SomeCreep 05-30-2006 06:35 AM

I think fast food rules.

I use to say that - In fact the first time a European said that to me...I said the same thing followed by this - Ya that is true East of the Mississippi seems like everyone gains twenty pounds. Then when I came back after being there for about a year. I realized that almost Everyone in America has that extra 20 on them. Now when I go east of the Mississippi...they are HUGE...!! hehehe Ok but really no shit...FAT

I'm guessing it's probably further from the ocean's, too. People who live near beaches I'm sure want to stay somewhat in shape so that they can look halfway decent in the Summer.

True people in California tend to be smaller then people in say Michigan...Now I really do mean that. I grew up in Michigan and moved to AZ when I was 20.
Back then I noticed the 20 pound difference....East of the Mississippi.

Yeah, but that gets thrown out when you think of the people in South Florida. :winkwink: I'm sure they're much smaller than people in Nebraska.:upsidedow

Ok then lets put it like this. If you live were the weather sucks East of the Mississippi, then most of the people around you are FAT

Gentle_Ben 05-30-2006 06:48 AM

fast food nation man, whenever i get back to the states i'm quite amazed, the people are definately fatter, but considering that a large coke/popcorn/whatever here is the size of the small one in the states, and is much more expensive here, for sure has something to do with it.

E$_manager 05-30-2006 08:39 AM

Borka 05-30-2006 08:43 AM

nancycash 05-30-2006 08:46 AM

Has anybody seen the movie where a guy eats only bigger size McShit during a month? He was close to death after that!

nastynun 05-30-2006 08:54 AM

I think you are right most Americans are at least 20 pounds over weight. I'm in Ohio and when I go into a restaurant of say 200 people. I'll be one of the smallest people in there with maybe three other people who are not over weight either LOL. I shit you not.

I can't get over how many people are HUGE in Ohio. I lived on the west coast for 10 years so I was really shocked when I came to Ohio. I bet the heart doctors here make a "killing".

Quote:

Ohio ranked 13th in the U.S. in highest rate of adult obesity at 24.4 percent, according to F as in Fat: How Obesity Policies are Failing in America, 2005. It ranked 20th in the U.S. in highest rate of obese and overweight adults combined at 60.2 percent. Mississippi ranks as the heaviest state, Colorado as the least heavy, and rates in Oregon remained the same. Over 25 percent of adults in 10 states are obese, including in Mississippi, Alabama, West Virginia, Louisiana, Tennessee, Texas, Michigan, Kentucky, Indiana, and South Carolina. Seven of those 10 states are in the Southeastern U.S.

Not only that, the price of that 3 sips of cola overseas costs as much as the big gulp gallon o' death in the states. Why on earth would anyone over there even buy coke, when you can buy good beer for less?

drjones 05-30-2006 08:57 AM

I also noticed they are stingy on the re-fills too.. here its standard, over there, you gotta pay again

justsexxx 05-30-2006 09:00 AM

First of all, I think(speaking for Dutch now) we have more regular exercise. When I was in the USA, everything was done by car. Drive in banks etc etc. Here the distamces are shorter, so easy to take the bike.

Furthermore we eat more healthy( I think) lot of carbs btw:)

And our portions are much much smaller. What is called small in the USA is LARGE here:)

And in my South America (Ecuador) i see very many fat people. They eat a lot of maiz and meat.

RAM 05-30-2006 10:06 AM

seems a lot of people agree with Fat America....!!

Raven 05-30-2006 10:07 AM

I've lived in many regions of the US....and a difference I've noted is the fact that we don't walk. We drive. When I was in Europe, I noticed that many walked where they had to go, which is exercise...it's not that they don't eat rich foods..their cheeses are to die for...and breads and pastries....but they walk it off. We don't. We drive everywhere.

True True.....Now with the price of GAS for us Americans getting so high...maybe that will have to change. Over 3 bucks a gallon is a lot for the USA. I know in Budapest it's about twice as much. Now just like our fat stomachs are cars need to get smaller too.

LOL, LOL, LOL.................we should all get into the fast food business!

latinasojourn 05-30-2006 10:42 AM

the american diet is created by commercial enterprises to turn a profit.

focus groups do product testing on consumers to find out what TASTES BEST before launching any new product.

and people buy and eat what TASTES GOOD.

and they sit and watch tv while they eat their pringles.

most developing capitalistic countries will soon have the same probs that america has with re: to obesity.

i was in a grocery store in manila recently---lots of new processed snack foods now.

and lo and behold, the flips are getting fatter also.

people need to understand nutrition, exercise, read labels, and only eat for nutrition, not pleasure.

That doesn't count, you guys are fucking poor.

SirMoby 05-30-2006 11:19 AM

It has a lot to do with exercise. When I'm over seas I end up walking every where and even though I eat far more fat and calories (unless I'm in Asia) I loose weight.

It's the life style.
