How much do you tip bartenders?
 

i was out in south beach. The drink was goingot be $8 or $9. I threw a $10 and left the change for a rum and coke. Then later the bartender told my girl that I was cheap as I left a $1 tip for a drink. They both spoke russian so she was able to do it with out me knowing. I tipped $2 on the second drink bringing me to around 15% which is my norm but is 15% light and anything over 10% is ok I would think.

Am i a cheap ass?

If you are, I am, too. I leave a buck per round, unless there is $2 change back, then I just leave both singles.

Especially the first round , i give a nice tip cause when its 3 deep that bartender sees ya you will get your drinks faster than john doe next to ya

i only tip a dollar a drink every time i make a trip to the bar...so if i order 3 drinks that one trip it's $3 dollars.....

I always overtip servers, too, because I supported myself through high school and some college as a single mom serving, so I know how it is, lol.

It was dead. I would have been more aggressive if i had a need. I also did this for a living.

i do this.. i give them my card, run a tab, and the end of the night tip 15%. saves me $

i just give whatevers left over

15% on the tab IS the safest (cheapest) bet - IF you're sober enough to figure it out later :)

nothing, tipping bartenders aint normal here.. waiters is another story, but bartenders?

i tip nothing also , tipping isn't a custom or a big thing over here , the workers here get paid enough $14.30ph min wage

I remember the thread when somebody told about his tipping experience... he threw the money up the girls face and got thrown out or something like that... somebody got it handy?

I usually leave around 30% per drink. ($1 per beer, $2 per mixed drink)

I do 20% (I can't figure out 15% when I'm drunk but 20% is easy) and try to use a tab because it is cheaper that way. I'll also go 50% on all comps so if I get $20 worth of free drinks the bartender gets an $10 at the end of the night.

I tend to tip well but as of late, I am much pickier as to how much I tip as most of the bartending staff in the city suck so it all depends on the person serving me.

This is what you need to do...

If the bar is packed, Leave a fat ass tip. I left a girl double was my drinks were on friday... she yelled thank you and waved and all that shit...

about 30 min later i came back to the bar to buy mad crazy shit... she skipped everyone waiting and asked me what i wanted... i bought a bunch of long islands... they were like big glasses of shots, and i left her a somehwat fatty tip but nothing like the first one...

Again next round she skipped people waiting and helped me..


so i think u have to taper ur tipping...

Start FAT on drink/round 1, but then give less and less because they will remember u from the first time and after that it really dosnt matter..

End result = u spend a bit more in tips but u get great service and i personally feel trapped when a bunch of sweater fuckers are all around me and im waiting to get a drink.

This trick has worked for me a lot int he past so maybe give it a try

i never have to pay for drinks... i usually leave a $20 tip

I do not drink anymore, but I still give them my customary $1 per drink.

I am not buying rounds. It was either a long island, $5, or a beer, $2. So I am sure the $1 covered their percent. However, for me, I would ALWAYS leave a tip. Water, beer, booze, whatever.

It does pay. The bar I used to go to all the time would see me walk up, hold up one or two fingers for how many I wanted, and mouth the 'bud ice' then she'd get to me before everyone else who'd been waiting in the long ass lines.

Tip the servant waifs. It pays off in the long run.

On South Beach these bartenders are getting accostom to all of the rich people throwing them $5 and $10 for nothing. I try to hit them up with at least $3 dollars on the first round becuase i know that they will hook me up on the next round of drinks and it works. So my best advise is if you are planing on having a few drinks hit him hard with a good tip on the first round, next round he should look out for you.

ok now I am amazed at the number that tip 20% and over. It is cool if you can tip enough that they remember you but how often do you go back to the same bartender then? I move around, change clubs etc.

You can leave a buck or 2, bu usually the first round or 2 leave more so you get better drinks & servince after.
Also I know some places rather run a tab with you & then you leave them one big decent tip at the end of the night.. Im not sure why because it usually came out to be less then if you got 1-2$ a drink.. depends on the service to me when I do that.. when its late & I want a drink & the dude/girl remembers me etc.. then I leave a better tip..

it all depends if the bartender is really nice and gets my drink on time then ill tip him pretty good.

Depends on the drink, if its just a beer, I'll tip the loose change I get back. If its a mixed drink, then I typically put down at least $2/drink made and higher if its a complex drink to make (ie: a caesar for example).

Me, being a bartender on the side I tip too much too. Most bartenders are living off their tips in this town.

I find a boob-flash a decent tip for a pervy barman!
