Do you use ICQ? Then you might want to read this...

Not sure how many of you are aware of this as active ICQ users, but if you have any problems with ICQ in the future...don't try contacting ICQ, because they've cancelled their ticket center.
Open tickets might still get a response, but you can't open a new ticket.
"Yeah, but I've never had to contact their support in the past" some of you might say.

Me neither...as of yet.
But how many contacts do you have on your list?
How essential is ICQ to your daily business activities?
The least you should do is back up your contacts.
And the entire community should think of the second best IM service out there and sign up.

Unfortunately, the second best isn't nearly good enough.

Tapaz 04-19-2006 12:27 PM

ICQ sucks ... today I cant add peoples!

I beg to differ. I've been using a freshly created backup number for the past two days, because the other one is only partially functioning, meaning you can't add contacts, search for contacts, etc. I think, as a community it would probably be a good idea to start using at least one more IM platform to break out of ICQ's "magic circle".

baddog 04-19-2006 12:41 PM

I use AIM for those that don't have ICQ, but it really is a poor substitute.

Anything that doesn't auto save history for me is pretty much useless.

Babagirls 04-19-2006 12:44 PM

MY VOTE FOR THE NEW INDUSTRY MESSENGER IS:

Yahoo! Messenger

Features:
-Message Archiving
-Voicemail (free)
-File Sharing (pics, etc)
-Free Pc-to-Pc Calls WORLDWIDE
-Stealth Settings (appear online to certain people, offline to others)
-select your own ringtones for incoming calls

and my personal favorite....IT NEVER FUCKIN FAILS!!!!! I've been on yahoo messenger since i was 17 yrs old, its maybe had problems a handful of times in those 8 yrs.

I know ALOT of webmasters and programs already use it. (i have around 30 webmasters on mine).

FUCK ICQ, LETS START USING YAHOO MESSENGER! :thumbsup

ronaldo 04-19-2006 12:45 PM

icq HAD support??

cranki 04-19-2006 12:45 PM

icq still does a good job... the older versions though... the new ones are too fucking flashy...

Trixxxia 04-19-2006 12:51 PM

I use it through Trillian and someone on ceruleanstudios forum explained how to backup & setup and auto save of your prior day's history of all your files from shutdown to startup. Anyhow, strangely enough, it seems to show me more people online now than it used to. (less orphaned people)

SykkBoy 04-19-2006 12:56 PM

I use ICQ for business related stuff, but have yahoo as a backup and for friends, family, etc.

Egomancer 04-19-2006 01:06 PM

Yahoo msn is primary for me! I strongly reccomend. What it does not have is a search feature through the archive...

Egomancer

RhiannonAPM 04-19-2006 01:17 PM

I use my ICQ for the bosses and my yahoo for my family and friends. I love Yahoo!!! :upsidedow

Vitasoy 04-19-2006 01:22 PM

Other then ICQ, I do use MSN

Thomas1007 04-19-2006 01:23 PM

Icq is constantly screwing up/freezing.
:helpme

Kevsh 04-19-2006 01:23 PM

ICQ is the worst.
But as I've found out, people in this industry are among the laziest and most stubborn you'll ever meet .. so they won't switch. Now, sadly I'm one of them with an ICQ list way too long for my screen :)

Whoever said ICQ is anonymous is retarded. They're owned by aol. It's no different than using AIM (its actually less anonymous. it shows IP)

As far as what client I use....Miranda IM.

you can use icq, aim, yahoo, msn, jabber, or irc. (hopefully someone will write a skype protocol plugin soon)
lots of mods and addons. logs/history....everything.
fully skinnable, fully customizeable through plugins (if you can code your own, you could make it do almost anything)

i just started using it a week or two ago and i love it.

madawgz 04-19-2006 02:14 PM

maybe they should charge 1$/member..... then they could provide more of a quality service

CyberHustler 04-19-2006 02:16 PM

my icq kinda fucked up too

Violetta 04-19-2006 02:21 PM

msn rocks...

white-rob-like-whoa 04-19-2006 02:21 PM

my ICQ is working fine....
my gtalk fucks up constantly

e-god 04-19-2006 02:23 PM

i use skype from the very beginning and i am very happy with it

tyler. 04-19-2006 02:26 PM

i'd go with msn/skype

sperbonzo 04-19-2006 02:27 PM

SKYPE ROCKS!

VOIP
IM
File Transfers
Video calls
Conferencing features.

Love it, love it, love it.

kektex 04-22-2006 11:59 AM

Jabber looks great. Not many people use it though.
You can even setup your own private server for your company, friends, etc.
It also supports encryption.

Jakke PNG 04-22-2006 12:02 PM

Trillian is pretty good, although 99,9% of my contact list is ICQ. :(

abadfish 04-22-2006 12:09 PM

My ICQ was hacked and stolen and I submitted several tickets and all I received was form replies. I tried the password retrieval and it did not work. They basically tell you to just "get a new number"

It's funny after years and years of using aim and yahoo I've never had an account hacked or stolen.

V_RocKs 04-22-2006 01:06 PM

Click my sig and forget about it...

VicD 04-22-2006 02:57 PM

Voted Skype, i use it a couple of months now and had no problems whatsoever
Oh, i really hate MSN, don't know why, maybe because all the kids talk about it :)

Sony 04-22-2006 06:40 PM

ICQ for bussines, yahoo messenger for friends. Yahoo is much better no doubts.

Spunky 04-22-2006 06:57 PM

MSN or Yahoo would be the next choice

ddfGandalf 04-22-2006 07:09 PM

Well, i use GAIM for IM services.
Never had any problems, and it never came to my mind to contact support.
Afterall its a free service, as for a free service it works fine.
(ICQ UIs have ads...gaim and rest *nix applications dont have it :) )

MsWild 04-23-2006 09:11 AM

I use ICQ and other than that I also use Yahoo!
